You know, as simple as it sounds, what works best for me is just telling myself, "YOU CAN'T EAT THAT!" Today, my kids were eating chocolate chip cookies. I SO badly wanted one. I came || THIS close to eating one. I had it in hand...it was headed towards my mouth...then I thought, "YOU CAN'T EAT THAT!!!!" That's one of the things I love about Atkins. It's not necessarily a matter of moderation. You can't just say, "Well, I'll eat this cookie, then won't eat anything but salad the rest of the day." or, "This one cookie won't throw me off." You have clear, concise rules of what you can and can't eat. That seems to be the only reason I can stick with it. No matter how much I want it, there's no way to rationalize eating something that isn't allowed. With all the other diets I've been on, I could tell myself, "Well, I'll eat this bowl of icecream tonight and just not eat the rest of the day" because it kept me under my points or my allowed calories for the day or whatever. That isn't the case with Atkins.
I know how difficult it is to turn down the things you want so badly. Just keep in mind that it's OH SO WORTH IT!
Sframe, it's hard...it's tough, but if you can get into ketosis, where your appetite will be more managable, because it is dimished, and your cravings ease up, because they do, if you can get thru the first week, and begin to feel alive again, like Atkins can make you feel alive, you will start to feel better and gain strength from this program. I am thriving without sugars in my life. I was a junkie, a addict to carbs, I had to make a clean break, because that is absolutely the only way you can get thru it, is clean break, plus you have to get clean from the sugars, they are messing you up more than you know...they keep pulling you back, or it's the carbs, pulling you back. You have to make a clean break, or it pulls you back, and if you get pulled back and forth long enough, you either get it or quit...
DON'T Quit, fight for this, it's worth it....it really is...FIght, FIGHT, FIGHT

Sframe, it really boils down to how bad do you want it?
We ALL have to face our addiction to carbs, we ALL have to go through the induction flu/detox off of the carbs, we ALL have to say no to those foods if we want to succeed on this WOL.
I know I want it pretty darned bad....and you know what, the longer I go, the more firm my resolve. I don't even have one bite. I know if I allow myself to take one bite, I'll take another, and then another, then a whole bag, then I'll raid the fridge...it's a VICIOUS, VICIOUS spiral downward.
So, I'm asking you again, how bad do you want it?
Sounds to me recently the momentary gratification of eating the carbs...however long it takes to smell them, chew them, swallow them, and the resulting high you get from them which lasts maybe an hour (?) is more important to you than a lifetime of being healthy at a healthy weight.
This is the way I have to talk to myself. There is no room for excuses in my life with regards to the way I eat. I either eat on plan and get results, or I have a lame excuse. Period.
How bad do you want it?

Sframe, I agree with Joy, you have to be tough, I am tough too...the food was ruining my life. Is it ruining you. Are you strong and healthy? Is your life calm, are your moods managable? To you feel good about yourself. Do you have food under control. Can you go out and do things with out being exhausted? Do you feel positive and have an inner confidence to live your life to the fullest.
I did NOT, I was lethargic, depressed, could not sleep without aid. I could not enjoy a walk in the park, hauled my body every where resting it on chairs in stores, standing too long hurt my back. I ate and thought about food constantly, went to the store all the time, for just the right thing...lived on antacids.
I am an addict, I am clean from the sugars and processed foods. I am free of it, and every day is a better day and I rarely have a craving. I am active and feel good about myself again, I am living and exercising and getting out more and more...
Read that DANDR book, it's all in there, and it's all true, but you have to work it. It's not given on a silver platter, you have to go after it and nail it in your life.
YOu basically have to fight for your life, but Atkins delivers...
