  • Small/Medium/Large Goals... the long haul ;)

I was thinking this morning that all too often I am focusing on the small goals and not looking at the bigger picture. And while it's good to keep a tight focus, I think it's also important that we also recognize that this is a life change and not a 6 month eating plan. So in that spirit I propose the Small/Medium/Large Goal thread.

Small goal should be something in the next 3-4 weeks. Something attainable, and that you want to achieve. Medium goal should be 3-4 months from now. Something that you're really going to have to work for. And large goal should be the long term view. A year from now what do you want? Where will you be? And please, try to make these about something other than your weight. I.e. "lose 10 pounds in teh next month." Weight loss should not be our only goal here. Healthy living should be. How about "fit into smaller jeans" or "ride a bike with the family."

No one has to participate, and I certainly won't hold it against you if you don't meet a goal. But sometimes just having them in front of us can help.

    So here's mine.

    Small Goal:
    Scale free for 3 weeks.

    Medium Goal:
Be able to do 3 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill by Christmas

    Large Goal:
    1/2 marathon next fall

I have to agree, having goals is very important in having success in anything you do.

    So, here goes.

    No scale for one week!
Exercising regularly for a minimum of 3x a week!
Wedding to attend in March - want to be the best I can for that!

I try daily to address the issues with emotional eating. So far I'm handling that very well. Journaling, water, ratios - on a daily basis.

Paul this is a great idea! I'll need a bit of time today to think about it-then I'll post it.

          Great idea!!

My short first goal is, to get below 215 and into those size 20's!!! (I bought them too small cause they were on clearance and the only size and I knew id get into them..Im getting so close!!! I can get into them adn zip them but I still have a little hang over. When i first got them i couldnt even zip them!

second goal is to be able to quit shopping in the plus section of the store. Im only a 2 sizes away actually. I should be able to do that in a few months.

third goal for next year. I want to have had a great summer that I could actually wear summer clothes without feeling gross and wear a bathing suit (top at least) and go swimming with my family. To be able to enjoy my summer instead of it being a time of dread where its too hot to cover up.

Small Goal: OK, I've changed this to a much better one...I have to plan a very nice low Carb, Extended Induction dinner for my husband's and my 26th wedding anniversary on Nov. 23rd. We prefer staying home for meals like this over going to the city to eat out...besides, we cook better. j/k
What to cook...what to cook... Suggestions welcome here...favorites are fish, pork, beef, lobster, shrimp, lobster, lobster, lobster...

Medium Goal: Convert any 5 regular recipes into low carbohydrate recipes. I've always wanted to do this, but never taken the time.

Long Term: Keep at my treadmill and walking so when we go RVing in 2007, I will be able to buy some new clothes and feel comfortable with my appearance and energy when we take day hikes.

I love this whole thread...You know I am constantly point to "dates" as my goals...I want to be on this program on day 100 for me, Nov8th. I want to start the New Yr. Jan 1, 2007 in this program, on these messages boards, and feeling fantastic. Aug.1,07 will be one year. I want to be at goal in one year with activity, exercise, and healthy eating and drinking a WAY OF LIFE.
Short term goal Do the Weigh No Weigh Challenge no scales from Oct 8-21. I think we should all sign up, and crush that scale addiction.
Medium Goal, Climb Stone Mt Nov 11
Long Term Goal, I want to be able to jog the whole Collins Hill Trail...which is only 1.5, but it has some steep parts, and challenges me so badly now, I can barely walk today. I want to be at a good weight and jogging this...
By this spring I want our family to be able to hike a place called Panther Creek.

I found the main course for my mini goal. It's one of Dr. Atkin's "once in a while" rich gormet delights and so much cheaper than lobster. I checked the price and they're $50.00 each--not on my budget!
