  • Temptation Resisted

I've been having some wicked cravings over the past month. Heart stopping, mouth watering, mind melting cravings. They haven't been for anything special. It's not like I want my favourite ice cream, or some really good pasta. It's just something I see and I. Must. Have. It.

I've been pretty good at resisting too. I've not had any foods I shouldn't be having. I maaaay have gone a tad overboard on some acceptable foods, but I'm working on it.

Last night was a real trial though.

I was driving to the grocery store to get the stuff I'd need for the weekend. And about half way there, it hit. I needed fresh bread. NEEDED IT. I thought I was losing my mind. I could smell it. I could taste it. I could feel it in my mouth. I had to have it. And I didn't need a slice. I needed a loaf. I wanted a whole loaf of fresh baked bread with melting butter slathered over it.

I knew a whole loaf of bread is insane on whatever eating plan you're on.
I knew it would make me sick.
I knew it would muck up so much good work that I've been doing.
    I knew.

    I didn't care.

I got to the grocery store and sat in the parking lot, whitefisting the steering wheel. I was being ridiculous! How had I given this much power to food? Food!

I finally managed to pull myself together and went in. It may have been the quickest shopping trip in my life. I just grabbed some butter, cream cheese, chicken, spinach and zuchini. There were about another half dozen things I wanted to pick up, but I thought the best course of action was to get out whilst I could. And I did it. I escaped the siren song of the bakery section. And I managed to ignore the chorus of all the other things that were calling out to me (When did the dumplings learn my name?).

So I'm feeling kinda proud of myselt this morning. But also a little uneasy. I don't know if I could beat a craving like this again.

How do you fight your cravings.

currvvey girl! Sounds like rough stuff, but you did make it thru it like Lady Hawk suggested...I think eating before you go, and never going there tired, or down would be very important...it's one of those places where we are in the minority...we have to get our war paint on to take on the grochery sometimes...
I love the BB that Lady Hawk made, I want to make one too, that's total inspiration! I love the visual stuff...
Girl, you made it thru and stay on your toes, keep your mind primed with the positive, the goals and direction you are headed in.

          Thanks guys!

@ Lady Hawk -- I sure hope I can be as strong next time!

@ 2Big -- What do you have in your emergency kit?

@ Outback Jess -- I had already eaten dinner, so I shouldn't have been hungry. I was going agter work, but sometimes you just don't get a chance to run erranfs until the evening. I suppose I could have left it until this morning, but then I would have been hungry anyhoots because I needed to get stuff for breakfast.

CurveeGirl! AWESOME!!!! Look at the power you have over food. You may not thing/feel you do.. but you do!

            You have gone from a 32 to a 20!!

            You acknowledged a craving.

Then formed a plan of running in and getting what you must have.

You left without giving in to the craving!

That's pretty powerful in my book. You FACED a craving. I dunno if I could do that. Usually I avoid all things with craving potential. It's just easier for me. Like you, I eat before going if I must attend.

Did you figure out what brought on this craving? Low mood? Tired, needing a quick fix for your mood? Wanted the warm fuzzy comfort feeling bread USE to give you?

Cravings never go away. Never. I don't care how long you have changed your ways.. they still creep up. Maybe you can control them better down the road.. but I think they will always be a part of your life. Look at how far you have come! You look great!! Would that bread be worth it? Would that feeling of bread and butter last very long? Not long enough. Then the guilty feelings would come in and THAT outweighs ANY good feeling that bread would give.

Oops.. sorry, I have a feeling I'm rambling on about my own self LOL

Anyway... congrats! A job well done!! You should be very proud.

              Hi Curveegrrl,

You are a STRONG woman!!! If I had made it all the way to the store with that craving, I probably would have given in!!! Congrats on making it through it

I have started carrying my before pic and looking at it anytime I think about straying...

So hang in there! NO nasty piece of white bread is worth it

Maybe you could make the legal bread for this woe...that way when you get that craving, you'll have some...heat it up, slather it with some butter and voila, no more white knuckles at the grocery store!!! (They freeze really well too! So it can be there for a crisis anytime!)

But again, congrats on conquering the craving!!! You Rock

                    Re: Temptation Resisted

Way to go Curvee! I went to Riley Days in Greenfield (near Indianapolis, IN) this weekend. It was like a walking smorgasborg! Deep fried candy bars, treats, corndogs everywhere! I stood in line for 20 minutes waiting on a steak kabob. When I got to the front I asked if they used any type of sugar in their seasonings. The answer was yes!! So I finally found a Ribeye sandwich booth. No sugar, and I peeled the bun off. It was fabulous! This morning we went AGAIN and I ended up with a breadless cheesburger that was soso. So, tonight, I'm rewarding myself with a steak/artichoke heart/mushroom stir fry....Delish!!!!!!! Hang in there curvee, those cravings will go away and it is such an elated feeling of being a champion at the end!

my emergency kit has stuff that I know will keep me at least thinking about it before i eat it.You will need to figure out whatt you need like your goal lists a letter to you telling you why you want to lose the weight and get smaller doing Atkins, before and current and goal pics stuff like that.

i got my 300+ pound pic and I ask my slef do I really want to let her back in? I git papaer and pen so I can do a benifet cost ananylisis of the tempting thing ( you can write an essay on why you got to have it and what the consequences will be), and I have bottles of water to drink while I contemplate this. then if I'm still eating I have nuts, flax chips cheese chips ( all for a crunch if I want a crunch), low carb flax muffins, some dried fruit (if I need something sweet) and cans of soy free tuna, dehydrated chicken and beef, and mayo, mustard, and hot sauce to flavor it with. I also got pickles and hot peppers. If I know I will be on the road a while I also grab fresh stuff to add to it just in case I can't get to a place to eat.

That sounds like an amazing kit! Do you keep it with you always? I can usually avoid/ignore cravings at home because I don't keep illeagal foods in the apartment. (Hooray for living alone!) I'm trying to imagine keeping tins of tuna in the car. I suppose if I wanted some cookies, I could just smack myself with the tin! kekeke...

But the pictures and letter and noteopad...I could keep those easily in the glove compartment. Yay! Thank you for the ideas!

I have a soy allergy so to get soy freem portable meat it has to be the canned in water low soduim variety. the foil pounches and the stuff like slimjims beef jery type stuff id off limits to me.
carry whatever food you would need not just for casrvings but if you were in the car on a road and there was a wreck and you were stuck in the car there for hours. I had that happen on the interstate here and I had 3 kids with me so our emergency kits can in handy. I keep my Atkins emergency kit in my house and in the car and swap out the foods as needed cause nuts only stay freesh so long just like cheese chips and muffins.

Also if you use a before and current pic in yours then you need to update it as you get smaller. Some folk can use a lisy of theri goals too and those will need to be updated too as you acheive some of them and make new ones.
