  • Sat Check in

We have a few newbies, I hope they check in and introduce themselves to our community here.
It's a beautifully cold day in the Southeast, the beginning of fall, hopefully. It could easily spike upwards in temps before Halloween...tho.

Caitlin and I hiked 3 miles yesterday, half down hill, which is scary because you know how much up hill is coming on the back side of the loop, and yes we were weezing, but it's getting us ready for our Stone Mtn. trek, Nov 11.
We were very excited to cover such distance...3.3 mi on foot. With us having Monday off from school, I can push it a bit farther with exercise this weekend and not empty my tanks...if that makes any sense.

    Hey have a good one...
p.s. oh yeah, forgot I have to go to a wedding tonight, at 5 outisde. I wonder, seriously if I have anything warm and appropriate to wear...

    Re: Sat Check in

    Hello!

Jess--that's awesome about your walk. I love walking in the fall! But isn't the best feeling about these uphill/downhill hikes is that they get just a little bit easier each time, and ya huff n puff less?

LUCKY--why do you have Monday off from school?

I was looking forward to a day relaxing (because I am plagued with a nasty cold) but I've been recruited to help out with some fundraisers at school--I'm the only class advisor that didn't have a prior commitment (well I did have a prior commitment, but it was to laundry, dishes, and cleaning...) so I'll be there from 9am-3pm. I will definitely be taking a nap when I get home--I did not sleep well at all, coughing and hacking.

I feel like I ate a TON yesterday (I am up about 350 calories from my usual daily intake) but my carbs were at 16. So today I felt like I had to roll out of bed, I was still so stuffed. I did have a nice celebratory dinner--omelette with green pepper, tomato, and dill havarti cheese, a few strips of bacon, and some celery with cream cheese--I really feasted!

So all of you have an awesome weekend, drink your water, and get some exercise!

      Re: Sat Check in

Hi Jess, Thought I'd move our chat to here. Water intake hasn't been a problem, it's been about 36 C (97F) with a lovely cool breeze we do get upwards of 40-42C (104-107) in the middle of summer but that's what air cons are for. Lol. My biggest problem today was that I just haven't been hungry and because I am so busy I did lose track of the time today and had Breaky at 9.30, Lunch 3.45 and Dinner at 9.00. No inbetween snacking, which was great.I didn't exercise today, only played with the kids and did some housework.

I was reading through some posts and saw something about too much protein slows down the loss, is this true and where can I read up on that.

I tested Ketosis this morning and threw the box in the back of the cupboard and decided not to worry about it but tested tonight and the stick was only a lighter pink I know I haven't cheated But I did have to much cheese and veges yesterday and today I just wasn't hungry I have hardly eaten, only the three meals today, no snacks.

This is a typical days Menu for me.

      Breakfast

2 sl bacon and 2 eggs which ever way and a slice of Tomato or an omelette with cheese, tomato and bacon

      Lunch
Tuna, Chicken or a steak with a cup of salad, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red capsicum (red Pepper) and celery 1 Tbs mayo

      Dinner
steak lamb or chicken and veges a cup of peas and broccoli and a slice or two of carrot.

Water is not a problem I am having about 3 litres a day and I have succumbed to Sprite Zero, I don't drink Caffienne, alchohol or smoke.

Have been Snacking on a bit of swiss chesse or chedder, salami, bacon even celery and riccota, low joule Jelly (Jello) and a bit of cream 20 mls.

Exercising I try but don't always succeed at 30 min a day on the treadmill and I try to do 10 tummy tucks (The number will increase) in bed when I first wake up.

help from anyone would be greatly appreciated
      Thanks Dee
      Night guys enjoy your day

peas and carrots are not allowed until the end of atkins...starchy veggies are like...rung 8? They have a LOT more sugar than one would expect. Stick with the broccoli, but ditch the sugary veggies.

              Wow, everybody is doing great.
Stickin- the wedding is in a suburb of North Atlanta, off I-85...not far from our house.
I got a nice pair of black slacks and a tuxedo shirt, it will be fine!!!
Dee, sounds like you are in early ketosis with the stick still pale, one person said, it's like preganacy you either are or you are not", it will deepen especially as you pull away from peas and carrots...there is a great post, that's a sticky on the 14 induction forum that shows the "legal" foods, it's a great resource...You should pop over the induction and check out some of the threads to continue to familiarize yourself with induction...I know I just got a copy of the paper back 2002 edition of Dr. A's book and will be reading it again, especially the 1st 11 chapters, being that I am on the second time around, I really want to get it all deeper into my understanding because this WOL really works for me, and I want to be very successful here...
It's precise diet, specific, and it leads you into a ketogenic place that really works for us...
Juli- Monday is a teacher work day, and I am self employed and hired by PTA to come in under cultural arts, singing and story telling, building character is my deal...So, no school because no kiddos....yeah, extra exercise and time to recover...
Hey I hope you get that big fat nap!!! and have time to recover before school on monday...look at all the milage you are rackin up!!! I am on a rest day, and so far i have been true to it!!!

                  Re: Sat Check in

Oh Julie, I am just a Mom, on a mission, to connect kids to character in a fun and energetic way, providing a positive, productive directions!!!
The songs, are my own songs...They are small simple little things that I have written, and how in the world this has all pulled together and happened, I wish I could tell you.
I can't read music, I get around with basic cords, but use the guitar and song to "transport my concepts"... I hear songs in my head and work them out...I can't write, I just "get them"...
I have written about making a difference...
"Be responsible and Show respect, the 2 big things you can't forget!!!"
                  "Respec Protects"
"Diligence, I get the job done, yahhhhhh"
"We've go to work together" a song about cooperation...
"Good things happen to good kids!"
"Who can make a difference? Why you can, with a great big smile, a willing attitude, self control, helpful hands, walking feet, and listening ears..."

I call my program the "High 5 Program" and I focus on 5 Character building traits,
Responsibility, Respect, Diligence, Cooperation, and Leadership...

I play an acoustic guitar, and often bringing the black electric in and play it acoustically, and give off a "bad girl with the hot guitar" imagine, but can't play it in any hard rock style...basically I am clueless to that...
Basically, character education is mandated in the state of georgia, and it all started when I was volunteering in my kid's class in 3rd grade, 6 yrs ago, and was helping them with goal setting, and I stumbled upon the concept of they have the power to make a difference and it evolved to making a difference with strong behaviors, and building character you can take anywhere...I have a song, "If you can do it in here, (classroom) you can take it out there" and I do "in-residence" programs in two schools where I make a series of weekly visits, covering each trait with a song, hand motions and story... I have worked with a few classroom teachers who wrote a program of doing these behaviors after I teach them about them and sing about them, and then they get caught using these behaviors and they earn high 5 hand stamps...after 25 hand stamps are earned over the course of the year, we teach them how to take these behaviors out into their communities, homes, and world and lead with good behavior...Unfortunately my programs been a bit stuck, we have never gotten it published, but two schools use in and me in classroom visits...I then take kids to a PTA performance, and we slam the school and it's usualy the biggest night of the year, standing room only...
I am a cult hero to the k thru 3rd grade kids in our area....

                    Re: Sat Check in

I am here as always. I know I didn't give much of whats been going on. I have stuck through Atkins for 2 months today. I recently had to take my mom to the docotor (about 3 weeks ago). While I was there I got weighed too. I was 371 at the time. Sadly I don't have a scale that will let me weigh myself now because I am still to heavy for it.

I recently lost my job due to being "replaced" and if your curious for the whole story there is a site called simplyfired.com that I posted my story at. But to say the least I stay at home all day looking for a new job. Anyway. To say the least I so wanted to just stop drinking all my water. However, I haven't stopped doing my deal. Sticking to Induction for a little bit longer (about 4 more months). Tammy and I haven't been working out like we need to. A lot of it is my fault and lack of motiviation. I will be honest and say that I am the one hindering her. Which I need to stop.

Other then that Tammy and I go through a lot of water. I keep having to fill up our 1 gallon jug back up.
Mouse? I don't need no stinkin mouse!

I have learned that it maybe a challenge. But Tammy and I can handle just about anything hitting us. As long as we stick togather we can take on the world. We had some back up plans that are working out well. The good thing is we can survive on a limited check for a few months. So I am streching everything. The good thing as well as Tammy's and my food cost is extremely low so we are not getting lots of food from the store.
