  • Naughty Weekend

Here I go........my first head hung down in shame post. I went out last night and ate. Consisting of Crab legs, and lobster tail and water. Then we went to a comedy show and enjoyed myself. We went home and my girlfriends called and said GIRLS NIGHT OUT! So, off I went to meet them. We all went in the bar and they ordered there round of girly drinks. The bartender looked at me ... my girlfriends looked at me ... and I did it. I ordered up a rum and diet coke. I ended up drinking 4 of them throughout the night. Why is it, I can look at a carb loaded piece of food for the sugary crap that it is and turn away without reserve, yet the liqour got me. AUGGGGHHHH. So, today I woke up and took a couple of lovely Advil, and kicked myself in the rear. Drank lots of water, had more seafood for lunch, and exercised like it didn't happen. I haven't drank in 4 weeks and I don't plan on doing it for awhile again. I felt the need to share with you guys because I can't just go posting positive stuff on the board all the time, like a perfect Atkinser. Have a good week everyone and feel free to smack me around a bit!

        Re: Naughty Weekend

It certainly wasn't the best of choices to make, but I don't see this as being a total disaster. You handled the damage control very well. Unless you neglected to tell us about the part in the evening where, in a rum feuled haze, you hijacked a Vachon truck and ate your weight in Jos. Louis cakes. (And haven't we all been tempted to do that at some point?) Well done to get right back on track with water and exercise!!

Moving up to owl is certainly an option. But if drink is your only real temptation...I don't think you can just skip to the alcohol rung (and more's the pity). And I fully understand why ordering a drink can be more tempting than passing on carby foods. Sometimes it's just not fun being the only sober one. And whoo does it hit me harder and faster than it ever did before being on this woe. Cursed healthy living! It's ruined my tolerance! *shakes fist*

Of course you'll want to make better choices next time, but don't beat yourself up about this. We learn as we go. And...it's not like tripped and fell into a pitcher of beer and had to drink your way out! *tries to look innocent* That...happened to a friend of mine. Boy, did she feel silly.

          Jamie,
I want to make an observation, I think your reaction to what you did is really a good reaction. You basically jumped right up, freaked out with guilt and started working it off, and working with water. My understanding is when in ketosis, according to the book, we stop burning fat and immediately burn the alcohol for fuel until used up, then go back to burning fat. I have no idea if alcohol will in fact make you want more alcohol, it would me....But the fact that you are honest, you feel that what you did was against policy for where you are with Atkins, and you have admitted it, and upped reversing it with exercise and firmly placing yourself back on track, I personally think more than a hug, you need a good slap! On the back and a WAY TO GO!
Jamie, I have not seen you post a lot lately, were you the one who had to work 13 days? Maybe right now it would be good to post, and stay close!
I know with me, if I cheat, I will rationalize it and shortly find another reason why "it's ok, I need this or that"...For me, I would stumble and what to have a beer or two with friends, casually....I have had to stay away from that environment, and it has been hard, but there will be a day when I can hang with them and not be so tempted to join in the party...
Girl your responsive heart showed you REALLY care about what you are doing...Keep focusing on that!

Thank You guys for that. I have thought about OWL, but I want to lose 20 lbs first then re-evaluate how I think I would handle it. I am about 3/4 way through DANDR since my original book was the DADR. Lot's of important updates!!!! Yes Jess, I am working and working.....blech. I'm trying to get on here every night for at least a couple of minutes, since I have to post my mileage anyway. Thanks for keeping me on track in this WOL!

You got right up and back on track, that's the important thing.

I have a countdown on my calendar of when I can drink--it won't be until Christmas! I just avoid it by not going out to the bar...but...it's tough when my boyfriend is sitting on the couch next to me drinking GREAT micro-brewed beer (which I won't even be able to drink)...but ahh, just to smell it gives me a buzz.

Anyway, this countdown makes it seem more exciting and the wait seems worth it...I actually have a countdown for all of my rungs...it's like a kid waiting for Christmas!

the microbrews are the worst. I don't mind giving up crappy beer, but microbrews? *pout*

Hi Hoosier, I think you will be alright. I think the main thing is to go right back on plan. Basically what everyone else said.
