  • Is it normal...

...to have two vastly different Induction experiences? The first time I did this, which was only for two days, I had near-total appetite suppression by the second day. I could barely touch food. This time, it's just the opposite: I can't seem to eat enough to stay full. My induction is cleaner this time and longer-lasting (I'm finishing Day 4). I've dropped between 2 and 3 pounds since Day 1 and my husband and I think that I look a tad smaller around the middle, so I guess things are working okay.

It just seems strange that I'm reacting to Induction in a completely opposite way than before.

    Hi Shannon,

The same thing has happened to me... the 1rst time I was in heavy ketosis:the bad breath, dry mouth and did not want to eat at all. This time, none of that and I actually get hunger grumbles sometimes! The only difference is I am exercising this time, not sure if that has anything to do with it... and I know the hunger at least this week was due to TOM... HTH

First off I don't know! But I think I have read that what you are experiencing does happen, it's like the body knows, and just doesn't follow as willingly... Keep eating til satisfied, remember it says that's ok for induction and you are loosing weight. This inital phase is to get you into ketosis, and to calm food down, to calm food down you are allowed to eat when ever you are hungry, but it's not a stuff-fest, it's eat til satisfied.
Hang in there, I want to see you go all the way with induction, every day will get better, you will not believe how different you feel at the end of 2 weeks...
Are you drinking all the water, and have to started some form of exercise even if it's a walk around the corner, or a stop at the gym.
Come on girl, another day under your belt will truly make you strong!

I still have days like that now - 3 1/2 months into it. Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat - other days I am starving all day! on those starving days I keep telling myself to stay legal and I will be rewarded. I usually have a whooshie soon after a hunger day. I try to think of it as my body is burning up stored fat and that takes a lot of work, so my body needs fuel to work and it gets hungry. I have been known to have xtra veggies on those days and it seems to help. One day I ate shrimp and fish just to eat more protein to stop the hungries and I figured it was lowest in calories

You are doing wonderful on induction! Keep it up!!! You will be greatly rewarded

I had the same experience--the first time I did atkins (in 2003), I didn't do a clean induction, ate bars and shakes everyday, and didn't measure my veggies and cheese carefully. I had major appetite suppression and I lost weight like crazy! About 40lb. in the first two months!

My SECOND time around is quite different. I did not to a clean induction when I first started (August 17, 2006) thinking it would be the same razzle-dazzle as last time, but the weight was NOT coming off as easily as I felt it should have, and I was hungry often. I admit, I was pretty sloppy this second time around. I re-started induction October 5, and did a CLEAN one this time--that helped out quite a bit. I am a regular exerciser now, and I WAS NOT when I began in 2003. Perhaps that extra muscle was keeping me hungry this time? Or maybe because I'm just a liiiiiiiiiiittle bit older, and my metabolism had slowed some? Who knows. All I know is that I don't know. Atkins causes different patterns/reactions in each person each time.

Just stick to the book, and work hard, and it WILL come off in the end! You can do it!

When I did atkins the first time the weight just seemed to melt off too. I think it was because I was no longer eating sugar and flour and that cuts out a lot of calories. I did a clean induction, but after that I ate veggies in unlimited amounts from rung 1 and all the meat, cheese and eggs I wanted.

This time around induction didn't do the same - but I realized a few weeks later that it wasn't a clean induction. I have learned so much more this time around and really want to make this my WOE for life. I feel so much better, am happier and no GERD! I'm hoping to also get off of my blood pressure medications once I drop some weight. I have noticed my TOM is much better. I was having major problems with being anemic and nothing was working. I also have so much more energy and a much better outlook on life.
