  • What gets you throught the first four days????

Hi everyone. Starting atkins again. I have the most trouble the first four days. My head starts to kill me by the first afternoon. I lost 21 pounds in 4 weeks the last time, but I hated the way I felt the first few days, and that is the part I'm dreading. So any helpful advice would be of great help. Thanks.
ps..... I am a pepsi aholic.

Re: What gets you throught the first four days????

I used to be a Diet Cokeaholic. Seriously. I used to lines (of cans) of the stuff. I gave it up, and I feel so much better because of it. It's nice NOT drinking 2-4 litres a day and being able to sleep at night as a direct result.

Also, some studies show that aspartame can cause nerve damage, and that I do, in fact, have. Do you want your face to go numb? I don't think so. I don't know for certain that some of the stuff I'm dealing with is in fact asprtame-caused, but after drinking the stuff for some 20 years you have to realize that it does come back to bite you in your ever-slipping chachoogies.

My advice? Choose life. Choose nerve ending function. Choose lack of memory loss. Dump the Diet.

The first four days stink, but they remind you to nevah do it again! *LOL* You'll make it through! Just be strong, and take it meal by meal. You'll take that weight off again in no time, cutiepie!

Susu, what gets you through???/ Alot of water, and advil....seriously that's what i used and I ate some of the best food...Shrimp one day, steak, deviled eggs, thick bacon in the mornings...green olives...I went for it. It was all I had to hang on to, slowly by day 5 I started to come back out of it. Just the withdrawl headaches..
I was so excited to finally get myself into starting position that I pressed thru and I came here and read alot and asked when the headaches would go away...and pouted, but I did not give up, and it's now 85 days later...Still going strong, strong DOES KICK IN!!! Wait for it, WAAAAAAIIIT for it!!!!

Today is my first day....Starting weight 208. I've had so far today 66 oz of water (not done yet)...a grilled chicken salad with just a touch of dressing since it said 2g of sugar, 1 fried chicken breast with hot sauce, and a can of tuna.......I'm hoping to lose a total of 50 pounds by the summer, but shooting for 10 in induction. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'd submit your menu to the menu section of the board for feedback in a technical sense. They know their stuff!

Advicewise, just get through it. It will be ugly, depressing, crabby, tiring and headachey, but it reminds you you never want to do this again! (Starting over, that is)

Re: What gets you throught the first four days????

What got me through the first week was wanting to change my life forever. Not just the numbers on the scale, but MY LIFE. I wanted to take charge of my health; I wanted to look younger than I am; I wanted to achieve goals I thought were long past me; I wanted to become a runner. I wanted to age well and avoid all those so-called inevitable age-related afflictions. I didn't want to be on medications for the rest of my life; I wanted to be there for my children and grandchildren. I wanted to be the hot sexy babe my husband married well into my latter years. I didn't want to have to have knee replacements before I was 60. I didn't want to be thin just for vanity's sake; I wanted to be HEALTHY.

What gets you through? Never letting the thought of who you can be slip from your mind.

Re: What gets you throught the first four days????

Go in with a take the bull by the horns attitude. Take CONTROL of the situation. Induction is only two weeks. You can do anything for two weeks right? And, the worst part of it is in the first week. Start it one day at a time for the two weeks.

Make sure you drink lots of water. Staying hydrated is important.

Eat lots of food...particularly foods high in fat. Cream cheese was a life saver for me. Don't allow yourself to be hungry AT ALL!

Change your entire outlook....do Atkins as it's laid out, eat the foods you are allowed. I see a lot of people on here trying to "do Atkins" and they are eating skinless chicken breast and 1 cup of lettuce.
ICK. I'd rather have chicken breast with Alfredo sauce made with real cream, real butter and real parmesan and a side of broccoli. Atkins is totally going to change the way you look at "Diet". It's not about deprivation!!!

You'll go through the induction flu...but why make it worse being thirsty and hungry and feeling deprived. Take a pain medication for your headache.....and just stick it out. I'd go ahead and break the addiction to the diet sodas at the same time. Then you've only got to go through it once.

Re: What gets you throught the first four days????

Just saw this, thought I'd add my two cents:

                  ADVIL
Lots of sleeping, going to bed early
I don't bother trying to exercise or do anything too strenuous
I buy all the food I need for the first week so it's there
                  Lots of cheese

And, I eat really nice food. I go for the steaks, the shrimp, the caesar salad with salmon on it, whatever I really enjoy eating, so taht it doesn't feel like I'm depriving myself.

That and determination and motivation, and I make it through!
