  • OK. So where did everyone go? Roll call!

Is everyone so successful that this forum is nearly empty?

Because, I don't know about you, but the last time I heard this much echo, it was when I yelled something into an empty pair of my size 32 pants.

Cleo you are kinda funny...I like it. They are all over at the "other post" the one that is stated "Good Tues Morning" because I forgot what day it is...So that's where you will find us, we huddle together kinda close...Usually I start off the daily roll call thread because I am way eastern standard time and up at 5.
Hope to see you there!!! and glad you are around, we'd love to hear your story, we see it, but tell us about it.

Hey, girl! It's nice to meet you!

No, I'm not trying to hone in on your daily roll call. I was wondering who's still around in general.

I am surprised to see so many people missing! Terry, Finelly, pretty much everyone! I am going to have to send out my brain vibes and see if maybe we can't get some folks back, especially with the holidays coming up!

Huddling together close is good, especially in this weather. It's getting heckacold outside. Brrrrr!

Thank you for clarification! You're doing an awesome job, and way to go on 86 cheat-free days! I'll definitely be around.

Re: OK. So where did everyone go? Roll call!

Hey Cleo, I'm here and sticking to what I need to be doing. How are you doing? I noticed a few regulars missing too and hope they come at least check in so we can see how they are doing, even if they're not on track. For me, I know I have to remain accountable the rest of my life, and I have to be accountable even if it is to say I am off track. I get concerned about some who have been following and drop out, because for me, if I go missing and don't at least check in with a "hi", it's highly possible that I'm not sticking to the food lists. I would think it's up to me to come ask for help.

I'm in a place right now where I have a million questions about everything that has to do with Atkins. So I'm reading the boards, trying to get reading time for the DANDR book (while I have a pile of fun magazines to catch up as well, but no time for them ). In fact, I have so many questions, I have nothing to post. I want to move up a rung, but I don't know if I can lose adding more veggies, so if I drop down to 15 grams of carbs, then can I still climb the rungs at all...see? I'm in a confused state of mind that can be cured by a little reading. I'm also trying to get in the swing of the chats and now the stats, but want to do that right too. Then there's recipes forum that is a top priority to keep my variety, I need to get on the right vitamins...there's so much! it is really a way of life, isn't it.

PS I forgot to say thanks for asking about everyone. It's very important.

{{{{{{{{{Babs}}}}}}}}}} Hi there, Miss Extended Induction! It is so good to see you!

You are so right on! It is really nice to have some accountability, isn't it? Even, as you so well-put-it, you're just checking in to mkake your presence known, it means that on some level you're still sticking with the program, and that is so important!

I know you haven't asked me my thoughts, but I am a super-fan of modified OWL. You climb the rungs slowly, while still staying at 20 net carbs. This allows you to sllooooowly rotate foods through your diet on a weekly (or semi-weekly basis according to run) and see how they affect you.

Without modified OWL I would never have known that I couldn't have mushrooms, or that broccoli is like candy in my bloodstream! the keeping carbs low means that the impact will not hit you nearly as bad as it would if you were eating 30+ carbs AND trying new foods.

Did any of that make sense? I'm horoscopically blonde, you know.

I don't know about this modified OWL...I like what I am reading...But I have not gotten that far inthe book maybe...I am happy on 20gm a day of carbs...I have not sought out the cream or added spenda to cream cheese and made cheesecake stuff. I have not gone up any rungs...Very happy and content with what I do have going...But this makes perfect sense, this modified plan...Tell me more, Cleo, tell me more.
How did you measure your bodies reaction to a specific thing? Like say cream???found on rung 2?

Re: OK. So where did everyone go? Roll call!

Hey! How are you this afternoon?

Modified OWL is not in the book, but it's something here at ADBB that has been discussed before.

It's basically being in induction (keeping the same number of carbs) but climbing the OWL rungs (I might have already said that).

So, after I get through induction and decide I need more variety, I go the first rung and add some veggies (according to OWL standards). This is where I realized that broccoli is too high a carb for my bloodstream, and where I realized for the first time ever that mushrooms and I aren't the close friends I once thought we were! It was awesome, because I cut both out and felt much better. There are ways to know something affects you badly. Maybe you bloat. Maybe you're so hungry 30 minutes later that you feel as though you ate something that negatively affected your blood sugar. With rotating foods in very slowly, I know that--aha! I just added broccoli! That was it! Try it again just make sure, and boom! I eradicate the broccoli. Same with mushrooms (and I loved mushrooms!) but they fed any yeast overgrowth I may have had in my system and always made me bloat. So I cut them out as well.

It's really a lot like a rotational diet, because there's only really room to try out a couple new things a week and seeing what kind of an impact it really has on you before you keep moving up. (I also take copious notes. We're our own best scientific studies!) I also like to take my sweet time moving up the rungs, because I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

There are some rungs I don't really touch. As an example, I'm not a legume girl, so I'm apt to skip that rung (which means I stick to the previous rung slightly longer before moving on). On the dairy rung, I only really add a serving of yogurt (plus, the acidophilus is excellent for yeast overgrowth), and on the fruit rung it's only berries for me! Anything else has left me far too hungry to even touch it.

Again, because the onus is on keeping in ketosis and not letting a new food too negatively affect my blood sugar, I only try one new thing at a time, and rotate it through a couple of times to make sure it's not causing problems. I reallllly like staying at 20 net carbs, and modified OWL allows me to do that, while enjoying some different foods, but in a very safe way. If my blood sugar goes woobly, I'm susceptible to a binge, and so I'm extremely guarded about what I add back in and when.

Did that answer your question? I'm running on stream of consciousness right now due to lack of sleep.

Wow. I wrote a lot anyway.

Yeah, you answered the question, so you use keto sticks to measure with? The scales seem so completely unreliable. I tried to weight every day to see what my body did, and I about blew them up at the 2week mark...Woke up feeling bloated and said, "I am not getting that confirmed."..next day woke up feeling thinner than ever, and said, "I am not getting that confirmed either" I just went about my happy way.
I am rarely hungry, as in craving hungry...I get that stomach grumbling hungry. I don't eat til hungry. I do have one food that is legal and I love and can over eat it. But I am learning to turn it back. I feel great most all the time, my clothes are loose, so I can't tell bloated feelings these days except in my wedding ring...
I like 20gm of carbs...I like induction and very very very rarely want anything beyond it. I drink real coffee and it does not trigger any cravings or blood sugar stuff...I probably would not know what that felt like anymore..
I avoid anything sweet...No dietrite soad. No, splenda and cream cheese like before...just enough splenda to take an edge of morning java...nothing sweet needed, I'm afraid it will trigger a sweet tooth thingy...
We will touch on this again, you have me thinking...

I don't use ketosticks anymore, because they're not always accurate. Sometimer they don't know metabolized fat from the fat I ate at dinner. I admit, they're fun to use because they turn a lot of colors, but I don't put any stock into them anymore. I think because I've been an Atkineer since 1984, a lot of the novelty has worn off?

I totally agree with you regarding weighing! I only weigh once a week and record the weight on the calendar on that day. Otherwise the little fluctuations would drive me nuts! This way I look back at the calendar over a longer period of time and have a general set of data points rather than too many unnecessary and stressful jumps up and down.

You sound like you are doing VERY well! I'm a firm believer in if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and yours is obviously not broke. I know I did induction for 6 months back in August of 2004-2005, and I ate pretty much the same thing every day and never grew tired of it. And you're doing great!

Though, seeing as you're shrinking quickly, you might need to start cursorily climbing the rungs, if for no other reason than to be able to shift towards maintenance for the last 20 or so pounds.

If you do have any further questions, ask away! I liked reading about what you're doing!
