  • If my Keto sticks are purple, why aren't I losing?!?!

    Hi everyone. Started induction last Monday on 10/16. Been really good so far...better than I've ever been every other time I started induction. Reread DANDR in Sept prior to starting, cleared out my fridge and bought induction friendly foods, get in all my water and exercise, eating well --- limited my salad to 3 cups daily or 2 cups and 1 cup of another veggie like broccoli, not going overboard with cheese (my absolute favorite), reading food labels and staying away from foods with sugar, etc. Been using those Ketos sticks since day 3 and they turn dark purple every day....so why aren't I losing weigh?!?!?! I've also been measuring and no real changes there either! HELP!!!!!! I don't want to give up. I have great recipes and I've really been enjoying this way of eating this time around...

    I know that I shouldn't have weighed myself until 10/30, but I couldn't help myself. Gave in and did it this morning....I am devastated!

    first of congrats on eating your veggies and getting your body switched to fat burning. now put your stix up and work on listening to your hunger. Stix only tell you that you are burning fat as your primary fuel and have excess unburned ketones in your blood when that urine was made.

    with 20 pounds as your desired loss you can expect to lose 5-10% of that or 1-2 pounds during your induction so right now you are not having any issues with weight loss.
    The important things are you are doing your mandatory daily exercise part of your Atkins and feeding only your hunger every time you eat. the feeding just the hunger and stopping even if you got food on the plate room in your tummy or carbs in your budget is one of the hardest Atkins concepts to learn, but that self control is the key to getting healtheir and smaller.

      Hi and welcome! 2big is right (but then she always is, such a wise one )... also check to see how much water you are drinking...sometimes if you are not getting enough, the dark purple on the stixs can indicate you are dehydrated and need more water! That happen to me the 1rst time around!

      Other than that, stick with the plan. If you follow it, the loss will come. Also, are you measuring?

        Every time 2Big addresses these things she leaves more of the big picture out there to consider and digest...For that I am most grateful.
        Rae, run with the advice given here, relax and allow your body to do it's thing...It's got a way all it's own...it'll happen...Give it time, there is no hurry. Way of life, not a short term solution...not with this diet...it doesn't work that way at all!

          Hello 2Big and everyone....you've given me something to really consider. Feeding my hunger, that is. I realize that I don't just each when I'm hungry, but whenever I feel like it. I also don't stop when I'm full. I don't eat until my stomach is about to burst, but I clean my plate regardless of how I feel. I suppose that I'm eating too much despite the fact that I am eating little or no carbs. The last time I did Atkins, I learned that I wasn't eating enough. This time, I went to the opposite end of the spectrum. I learned something new today....thanks!

            you are welcome learning to eat only to feed hunger is a very difficult thing for most Atkins new folk but a concept that must be mastered to be a long term goalie.

              One thing that helps me eat less is using smaller plates. I have all of my meals on a salad plate or a saucer now--it's really made a HUGE difference!

              Another thing you can do is serve yourself only 1 serving and refrigerate/freeze the rest, or eat one serving, wait 20 min, and then go back for more. It takes 20 min. for the brain to register that the body is full.

                Using smaller plates is a great idea! Reading your post also made me realize that I don't actually know what one serving looks like. Have to reread parts of DANDR and also, i'm going to buy a food scale for accuracy.

                  also because hunger and thirst are controoled in the brain in very close poxcimity you will get spillover signally when you are thirsty as hunger. drink a glass of water and wait 20 min to see if you were hungry or just thirsty. thirst will go away but hunger will still be there.

                    Good tip....and drinking more water can't hurt. By the way, I'm getting in my 8 cups of water each day but still find myself with dry mouth every night...to the point where it's difficult to swallow. Is this normal? Should I increase my water intake?

                      It wouldnt do any harm to drink more water.
                      The 8 cups are the minimum any adult should drink, and it is suggested we all drink at least an extra cup for every 25 pounds we want to lose to aid weightloss.
