  • 3rd time around Actually... But more determined than ever

    Hi Everyone!

I am really determined this time. I started Atkins in 2003 and lost 66 pounds in 10 months. THen in 2004 I had a hysterectomy which of course threw me off for a while. I got back on the wagon, lost the 20 pounds I gained with the hysterectomy, then hit another wall this past march when my asthma kicked in. I have been battling it since then, but I am so determined to get well.

I have one more week of steriods. My blood sugar is totally out of whack. but this morning at 3AM when I couldnt sleep because of all the asthma meds, I picked up DANDAR and started reading from the beginning. I am up to chapter 8 now, and I remember why I am a low carber. Insulin Resistance. PCOS. Diabetes in my family. ANd I started remembering how good I felt.

Today is day one of induction. So far so good. Cheese and bacon Omlet for breakfast, Steak and cauliflower for lunch. Dinner will be Either chicken or pork with a salad. I have limited my coffee intake to 2 8 oz cups with just a tablespoon of heavy cream. I have taken my suppliments and have already drunk 96 oz of water. And I am not hungry! THat is the amazing thing.

The next couple of weeks are going to be rough. I know tomorrow will start the headaches from HECK. We are also getting ready for a trip to Disneyworld with the kids for the week of Thanksgiving. I am going to need all the support I can get.

I have been lurking today around here. You all are so supportive and helpful. I am looking forward to becoming a regular poster on these boards.

I should mention too, the doctor gave me the go ahead yesterday to start exercising again. It has been since August since I was allowed to step foot in a gym. SO I am starting to walk and on monday I will go back to slowly work up to my normal running routine again. Probably more walking than running at first...

    Thanks for listening!!
    Karen

          Hi, Karen!

So let's get down to brass tacks. Pull up a chair (here, put on these bunny slippers) and really think about what messed you up the last two times. Really delve into why you feel you failed. What do you plan to do differently than last time?

Take an inventory of all the things that have triggered you to eat and fall off the wagon. What are you going to do the next time something happens that triggered you the last time?

I'm not trying to kick your everloving little butt as soon as you walk in the door. At the same time, I never want you to have to go through induction flu ever again!

This time make it for real! This isn't about perfection. This is about persistence! You will do this!

LOL! It is funny you should ask me this! I actually did this yesterday morning.

The thing that takes me off track is my Asthma. (Well, the first time it was having surgery and having to eat the food in the hospital) The second I go on Steriods, My blood sugar is totally out of wack. The cravings start, then I am starving ALL THE TIME. When I am actually on the WOE and I am not on steriods, nothing deters me. Not even peanut butter which I could eat by the gallon normally. I am usually a salty type person.. so sugar really never did bother me... only when on Steriods.

Of course this is totally a normal reaction according to my doctor(s) and the Pharmasist. They keep telling me that breathing has to be more important... which is true most of the time. I have been in and out of the ER with it...

My asthma has been really bad since March. 23 pounds in 7 months when I think about it isnt bad considering I lost more than that in 2.5 months before.. However, I do need to get the eating in control. I am on steriods until Thursday. It looks as if we may have kicked it this time around. If that is the case, I should start losing the cravings about 4-5 days after they stop. I am taking Chromium and L-Glutimine.. but the steriods seem to over power them. But when I come off, I hope they will kick in sooner as I have been taking them for over 6 weeks now solid.

Re: 3rd time around Actually... But more determined than ever

Thanks everyone for all the welcomes!!! Until March I only had a 12 week problem after surgery (2004). I know what I need to do. I just got to get the control back to do it.

Posting on another forum was my life line the first time around. THat forum has become such a downer now (woe is me kind of thing) that I had to find a new place!!! I need someplace that I can get my butt kicked when I need it, but also the support of those who know what a struggle it can be sometimes.

I thought I would post my progress pictures. Right now I am looking about what I did in December 2005 (Black outfit) http://www.crochetlegacy.com/Journey.php

I am so looking forward to joining you all here!
