  • i'm back... nearly 40 lbs heavier.

most on here won't know me... i never posted much, but i really need help this time.

in september 2003, i weighted 210 lbs, and started atkins. immediately lost 40 lbs... before christmas i was 170. for the next year, i was in the best shape of my entire life... running, and stayed around 165. well, in march 2005, my wife gave birth to twins... our first kids. living in the hospital for over a month with my wife took it's toll on me. gained about 10 lbs back that month. then, with two premature babies at home, it came flooding back on. the kids are 20 months old now, and i have hovered around 190 for the past year, but now, within the past month, i've shot up to 205.

i'm starting atkins again today. i have heard the weight doesn't come off as easy the second time around... can anyone explain why?

and guys, i REALLY need support here, it's killing me to be this big again...

oh, and to top it all off, i'm going to try to quit smoking, so i'm going to be a huge grouch.....
    here we go.....

    Daniel,

Congrats on the babies! I'm sure yall are busy folks these days I can see where your priorities/focus shifted during their birth and time afterwards. It's natural. I'm glad to see you returning! Time to put that focus back on your health so you can enjoy those babies for a very long time to come.

I'm a repeat offender..having restarted Atkins many times between my first go and this time.. and I can honestly say it is moving slower this time because I know more about how Atkins works and I'm doing it correctly this time around. Wanting this to be a way of life, I need to take my time and try new recipes, see how my body reacts to certain foods, incorporate exercise into my daily life, etc. It takes a while for these habits to catch on.. now add in life, 3 kids, hubby, house stuff and rebuilding from the hurricane and you got a lot of stuff to work through in putting your focus on yourself for the first time in a long time. But, it's possible. I'm living proof

You know the routine.. legal foods, water, exercise... be prepared for the induction flu, headaches and grouchiness! But know that it's detoxing and soon you will be on top of the world again

Post, check in, start a journal, whatever it takes to keep you going.

Hi Daniel! Welcome back and congrats on the little ones.

It does work slower the second time around for some people. I'm not really sure why, but it does still work. You just have to have patience and drink lots of water .

We have a daily check-in that Jess starts for us each day - so be sure to pop in for that and give us an update on how you are doing.

        Hi Daniel

First off, congrats on the 2 new additions to the family!

I am a similar boat - did well, slacked off, now i've restarted and intend to see it through! It is true that the weight comes off slower the second (third.....15th) time around, but the way i look at it is Atkins is not another "Diet" for me, it's just the way I eat, so I would say do a clean induction, and start to move up the OWL rungs thereafter as it will keep things interesting.

Now this may be contreversial but I wouldn't try and change too many things at the same time - cut down on your smoking by all means, but focus on getting clean food wise, then when you are firmly on the road to Atkins success (this varies from person to person, but we all get that WOW, it's working and I wouldn't change it for the world moment i think), quit for good, I am a firm believer of one step at a time, and when u feel better and you're more active and healthier, I believe it will be easier; just my 2 cents!

Either way check in on the board - everyone here understands what you are going through and for every problem you face, you'll find dozens of people who have been where you are and can help guide you through it!

        Good Luck!!

Welcome back Daniel. ADBB is full of support and encouragement. This is my second time around and it really is not that hard. When I started on 10/3/06, 30 days seem like a long way off and now I'm on my 42nd day and I feel great and the weight is coming off. I have opted to stay away from the scale until my next doctor's appointment. Judging from the fitting of my clothing I expect a glowing report. You hang in there, you did it before and you certainly can do it again. Stayed tuned to ADBB, we got your back.

Hey Daniel...We check in every morning, and we often post through out the day...Focusing it totally important.
I agree with whoever said, maybe back off the smoking and after you get Atkins routines going, then stop the smoking...there are others who have stopped smoking and have made it through..
Daniel, go back over what Rachel said, and get your book out, and come here alot at first....we are all here for you..
Once you get thru induction flu, and into ketosis, you might loose fast, but this is not a diet, it's a way of life, leave it and the weight comes back, eventually HUH?
