  • I'm baking cookies tomorrow!!

Wish me luck you all......I will be baking sugar cookies tomorrow....TONS of them.....in attempt to construct a Sugar Cookie "Gingerbread" house. The warm smell of cookies is sure to send me straight to the looney farm but I am going to do it!
If it were typical gingerbread, I could manage, as I do not particularly care for gingerbread....but sugar cookies!!! WARM SUGAR COOKIES!
Why Sugar Cookies you ask? I am making a "gingerbread" house that is a replica of my own home. My house happens to be white and therefore, brown gingerbread cookies just aren't going to cut it. My intentions are for this to be a realistic replica, so I didn't want to create a whimsical house by "painting" the house walls white with frosting.
Can you imagine all the scraps that are going to be left over....what do I do with the scraps? My mother raised me not to waste food, you know!!
This isn't going to be just a tomorrow thing either.......this will be a month long project possibly because I'll be working on it sporadically.
What do you think...I plan to use those "100 calorie bag" nabisco oreo cookie chips as my roof shingles).
Also.......we haven't even gotten to the part of decorating with millions of candy pieces! What is a girl to do.....???

WISH ME LUCK (and strength!) I'll let you all know how its going!

First off get a clothes peg for your nose!!! Nah just joking (although....)

Sounds like a fun and ambitious project! Not going to be easy so what I would do is prepare some of your favourite Atkins foods and have them ready and waiting for you as you work, that way when the smell of the cookies (and the look and the feel) get too much, you can turn to your yummy legal food and fill up.

Another thing to be careful of is EAT before you start this - you don't want to be hungry when you're faced with temptation!

Thirdly, if you should feel yourself starting to weaken.....walk away from the cookies and towards the keyboard and post post post - you know there will always be someone on-line to support you!

Good luck and stay strong, you're doing great and a few cookies are not worth it (and just think, if you start to eat them, you'll never have enough to built your house!)

BETTER TO WASTE IT THEN WAIST IT is your new motto.
Cover your mouth and nose with a dust mask then you will not accidently lick or taste anything cause you got to take off the mask to do it.

unless you are going to have folk eat the house you can ruin the flavor of the cookiees and then not have to worry about eating them. how abot wat too much salt?

I was thinking exactly what 2big says here and with using too much salt. I know that when I've made dough onranments, I put dish soap in the dough as part of the liquid (not to keep me from eating it, but that would sure work. LOL). And after a house sits out for a day or so, no one should eat it anyway if there is egg in the frosting.

At first, I thought OMG. You are so brave. But then I thought I would have to be held down and tied up and have cookies shoved in my mouth to eat them. I think you'll do fine. Treat the oreo cookies and others like they are poison.

I would love to see it when you're done, so I hope you'll post a picture of it.

i like 2bigs idea of ruining the taste, also, have you thought about maybe making atkins friendly cookies while you are making the sugar kind? That way if you are tempted, you have legal cookies you can have.

You can take the scraps and perhaps have some neighborhood kids over to eat them, if you don't ruin them. or bring them to work, i never met an office that you bring in anything and it wouldn't be gone lol. Otherwise, throw them away.

I like the idea of having some poeple over to help get rid of the leftovers also have a true friend over that will help you thru any craving you might have and not let you eat the junk food. Your doing so great you could just look at the candy and then in the mirror and think about which one you want more

Brave woman! I made chocolate chip cookies for halloween and thought I would go bonkers, just because of all the habits I have of tasting everything I make. I made the mistake of NOT eating before I started...ooooh it was tough tough tough but I didn't cave.

Make sure you eat a high fat meal before you start, and drink water while you're doing it. I also chewed a piece of gum so my mouth was nice and minty and not "hungry."

                  Re: I'm baking cookies tomorrow!!

I'm not a cephalic responder, so I find that sniffing foods actually helps me! It's like aroma therapy. So, depending on how your body reacts to the smell of a cookie, it can really be calming and relazing to smell things. For me, it's even better than eating them! A donut smells a mazillion times better than it tastes.

So, if you can sniff with no problems, sniff! I spent a Halloween with a bag of Snickers on my face just sniffing.

Just remember to not lick anything that gets on your fingers. That is sometimes the toughest.

I agree Cleo, not licking your fingers is the hardest - mostly because it's usually done with out thinking...

                      Re: I'm baking cookies tomorrow!!

Thanks a lot you guys! The support here is great. I am up this morning and on my way to the store to buy the ingredients. I will wait on buying the candy since that can be put on down the road...
I hadn't thought about putting too much salt in the dough. That is genius! I will actually do this to make sure I do not eat any. I don't crave things as much as I used to now (I actually have to remind myself to eat sometimes), so I don't think I will be overly tempted by the cookies anyway, but just to make sure I will pour on the salt!

I've eaten breakfast (3 egg omelete with cheese, veggies and deli turkey). I can shop now on a full stomach. Cleochatra, I don't know how you do it...aromatherapy? Wow you are strong!
If all goes well, I will post pictures as my masterpiece unfolds (or caves in...which ever comes first. This is my first attempt at this guys!!)

                      Have a great Wednesday!

Quitstretchin, Girl...You know I think everybody has given you excellent advice. I would double agree with a high fat, satisfying meal before you start and don't do it tired!
Good luck, from the girl who stood by the registar in the grochery tonight while my dd went and got her diet rite, I just couldnt cope with the grochery tonight, so I stayed at the door! That's the truth...I can't have most of what i would pass, so why get bummed out, when I am tired and hungry...

                          Re: I'm baking cookies tomorrow!!

I agree with you Jess.....why attempt it you already know your willpower is on low. That is why I didn't start the cookie thing today. I was all ready to go to the store but wanted to make sure I was confident enough. I felt I was, but temptation wasn't sitting in front of my face and aroma rising straight into my nostrils!

I questioned too many times this morning about what I might do in the presence of warm cookies, so I am strategically putting it off one more day....One more day won't hurt and I can sleep on it and put things in perspective.
I caught myself on one ocassion saying "cookies, ummmmmm!" That was enought to abort the mission and try again after posting some more! Plan to start tomorrow. Sorry for all the hoopla today, but thanks for the support...I sure will need it tomorrow too.
