  • Walked the Walk...

    I did it, took those first steps this morning! I won't be walking any marathons anytime soon, but I walked!

    I was supposed to do 15 minutes, but stopped after 10 minutes. Not walking for 3 weeks set me back a little. No problem, though, it will only take a couple of days to get up to speed.... "get up to speed"....ha ha..... get it????

    Ok, back to work!

    The good news is you did it! 10 minutes is better than no minutes. I had to start over again recently and tried to overdo it the first time. That set me back even further. Baby steps is the best way to get back into the routine. Congratulations!!!!

        I agree, do what you can do...no matter how much or how little it is, it's better than not doing anything at all. Try this concept: you do whatever it is that you can do...15 seconds, 15 minutes, whatever it is. And you do that for a week (or every other day in a week). The next week you ramp it up a little bit, go 20 seconds or 20 minutes. The next week ramp it up again. Before you know it, you are excersising like the rest of us.

        Literally, when i started last year on my elliptical machine, I could go for maybe 5 minutes. I can go 45 minutes or an hour now...and actually I RUN. ME! I actually RUN now...if you'd told me that last January, I'd have laughed and laughed and laughed.

          VR, I really needed to read what you just wrote....I do not get enough exercise in for sure...I desperately need to start and I cannot even imagine a treadmill, muchless an eliptical. BUT....I CAN DO IT and I will...I will....probably not until January and school starts back though....I get free services at school. Hold me to it please!! LOL (is that making you responsible???)

            I agree.. start slow and knock it up a little each time. It all adds up! I found that four days makes a difference if you do not exercise! I'm easing it up slowly, but it sure was discouraging to know that in 4 days it can set me back that much.

              Pamela, I work at a school, and while it's not free for me, we do have access to the fitness center at a very reasonable cost. I have started using the facility and my plan is to continue to do so. You ought to look at some of the exercise challenge threads...and even some of the other challenge threads. I'm in one called Clean it all up for Christmas....and exercise is ONE of the components that we prod each other about.

                Hey there Pamela, follow Joy, she knows the way to exercise...Follow RachelinLa she has made it begin to happen and loves it...these two exercise completely differently, but have the same heart about exercise...

                  Just got back from my 15 minute walk. Yep, I upped it 5 minutes! Yay!

                  I didn't have a chance to check in this morning. It's pay day at work, which is a busy day for me.

                  I'm planning to check out those exercise challenges sometime today.

                    Jess, thanks for tooting my horn I crave the exercise now.. I love the exercise endorphines coursing through my body making me all tingly and sparkly. It just helps me keep the rest of the day in line. And I feel so strong. I did .75 of a mile today in one session. I was huffing and puffing.. hopefully I"ll be back was I was before the wreck. Each day it gets better and better!

                        Thanks Joy -- I also did another 15 minutes this afternoon at work. That's what I used to do -- walk 15 minutes in the morning and 15 in the afternoon.

                        Plus, I joined an exercise challenge -- so, starting tomorrow I'll be doing situps, too!
