  • Start the diet after a long time away

I am new to this site and only found it a couple of days again. I am glad that I did because I have been reading all the wonderful post on this board and feel confident that I have found new friends to help with support. Only those who have a problem with weight truly understand how you feel.

Please help. I was on the diet about 7 years ago and lost 80 lbs. I fell of the bandwagon and have gained it back. I want to start the plan again as a New Year's resolution but I have been told that doing Atkins diet and weight loss is a one shot deal. That subsequent times on the diet does not work so I became a little depressed about that. Can you advise if this is true?

Some people notice it gets a little harder each time, but don't let that discourage you! If you do a clean induction, follow the Atkins plan to a "T" and read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002) you know the plan will work for you.

Maybe those people meant that Atkins is a "one-shot deal" because it's a way of life, not a diet...it's meant to be followed closely, progressing a bit at a time, as to re-learn how to control portions, how to feed hunger, how to avoid cravings, and to become aware of adverse food reactions or allergies.

This is my second time around, too. There are quite a few of us who are STACers! I didn't do it right the first time, and now I make sure I follow the plan "by the book." At first I thought that I wasn't doing as well THIS time as I had the first, but now, after about 14 weeks, I'm doing much better than I was the first time and 14 weeks in! Weight loss is NOT linear, it comes in spurts, and the numbers on the scale can be effected by muscle gain, water weight, etc.

So, double, glad you're back on the wagon...don't be a stranger in the STAC forum!

Thanks for your insight. I'm gonna do it this time. I'm kind of quiet but I will be visiting often especially after Jan 1. Right now I'm getting all my ducks in a row to start and have the holidays over. I am going to Hawaii in late April would like to be lighter before I go.

By the way, you are looking great. Keep up the good work.

Re: Start the diet after a long time away

          Hey!! Welcome Doublepeg!!

The ADBB site is the best for LCers. I am so glad you found us. Must have been your lucky day

I resently re-focused on my WOEing(way of eating). I joined the STAC, 5 days ago and have already dropped 5 pounds. I am doing the WOE by the book.

I have followed the Atkins WOEing many years ago, in the late 70's and had great results back then. But I didn't understand that it was a life change and not a diet. Then back in 2003, I got serious and lost 94 pounds. I didn't go way off the plan, but enough to gain back 30 pounds.

This time it will be different. I have learned so much about myself and I don't ever want to go all the way back to 288 again. I know this is for life and I am chosing it for life. I am worth it!

So don't stress that this WOEing is a one time shot, because I have proven it can be done, more than once. IF you follow the plan Like the good Dr A. instructs us in his last book before his death, the 2002 edition.

          Rest in Peace, Dr Atkins!

          Happy Low Carbing!!
