  • The wicked coincidence of it all!!!

There isn't much more that I love about coffee than it being STARBUCKS coffee! With that said, I love the "holiday" flavors ("peppermint mocha, gingerbread latte, etc...) just 2nd to their Cinnamon Dolce latte. Well, I became aware of this flavor early last year sometime before starting Atkins. Then it just suddenly went away...I guess it was on a trial basis only.

Well, of course, it would coincidently "re-appear" at all of my local Starbucks on January 1st....the same day I recommited to this WOE! They have it in sugarfree now too, but I haven't tried it yet. None-the-less......I figure that there will always be things that I "used" to eat/drink that will tempt me at any given moment or situations.

Glad to say that I have stayed strong! I have made a daily run to Starbucks since the 1st of January and have not strayed. They even had samples of the Cinnamon Dolce latte being passed out to waiting customers.....topped with whipped cream!! I kept on walkin' (oh but I was draggin' my feet I tell you!!

Just thought I'd share.......hope your Friday was great.....have a great weekend you all!!

It's probably one of those evil seasonal things that you become addicted to and then they take it away because it becomes warm and sunny, and you finally overcome the addiction and start being able to sleep through the night and don't have the shakes anymore and then they bring it back and wave it in your face, taunting and laughing at you. When they start making the white chocolate mochas sugar-free somehow (I'm not sure this is even technically possible), I will be so skrewed.

Re: The wicked coincidence of it all!!!

I've never been a coffee drinker. Just don't like the taste. However Starbucks holiday peppermint hot chocolate is way to good to think about.

You right though. I'm sure everyone has a list of things they used to like that they can't have anymore and that there are 1 or 2 favorites from that list are the hardest things to give up.

I wonder what the things are for other people...for me it's mainly just Papa Murphy's (a chain take-and-bake pizza place) pepperoni pizza. For some reason out of all high quality, gourmet, specialty pizzas out there, it's Papa Murphy's I miss the most.

Fortunately for me it's much harder to slip up when you have to go to a store, buy something, come back and then bake it then with something like yours when there is a Starbucks on every corner (around here anyway).

      Keep up the good work

      Stay strong!

Cheddar Cheese Kettle Chips, and the Beer and Cheese flavor coming in right behind it... and Drumsticks ice creams.

I didn't know that they had Papa Murphys anyplace besides Anchorage. How funny!

How is it that you people can miss things I've never even *heard* of?? I guess I'm lucky where the only "seasonal" starbucks thing I've ever tried was the pumpkin spice latte. Or else I'd really be craving it.

I think Starbucks only counts if you have them make it as one of their crazy latte/mocha/insane drinks. If you're just buying regular coffee though, I think there are other brands that are much better (like the Cinnabon from Seattle's Best).

Re: The wicked coincidence of it all!!!

The only time I've actually BEEN to a Starbucks is when I had no other choice. I have shied away from them because they're (or at least they WERE) so ultra-trendy. I went to one, I think it was in O'Hare, or maybe the airport in Minneapolis, because it was the only place open at 5am and I needed caffiene like whoa. And yeah, I'm a sucker for those mocha blended-type drinks.

Mmmm.... Papa Murphy's.... that's here too. And it's right across the street from Starbucks which I absolutely LOVE. Since starting Atkins I haven't trusted myself to even drive down that block!

Re: The wicked coincidence of it all!!!

Papa Murphy's is here in California too. I agree though that all the effort with ordering your pizza, going to pick it up and then baking it yourself gives you enough time to change your mind and force yourself to stay true to Atkins.

As far as Starbucks is concerned...........they are on every corner here too! They are now in my local grocery stores as well, so they are EVERYWHERE! I like (liked) both hot lattes and blended drinks, but of course they are the ones with ALL of that sugar and regular milk. I now get Cafe Americano which is just espresso and water. I leave room for cream and then add a sugar free syrup (usually raspberry).

We may "miss" all of this stuff but when the pounds come off, it is so worth it!

I keep a list of all the things that I crave in my wallet. I write them down whenever I have an "episode" of extreme cravings. After a few weeks or so, I look back at the list and think...."how did I really want that". Since Jan. 1st, I have peanut butter and jelly sandwich, trail mix (with raisins and cranberries), lemon bars and that wicked Cinnamon Dolce drink from starbucks on my list. When I eventually review the list, I don't want those things nearly as much as I did the moment I wrote them down.

Quitstretchin--that is a great idea to write down your cravings! I might borrow your ingenuity...I think I'd have fun laughing at my list after the cravings pass.

I've noticed I'll have a hankering for some weird food that I never even liked before--like grits (what the heck?) or lemon merengue pie. I swear, with all these food thoughts going through my mind, it's like I'm pregnant or something.

I know, I know... I haven't wanted lemon bars since I was a kid! I assume I want them....I can't even remember exactly what they taste like. I think I am just craving the memory of them and anything else I can't have!!

I am learning day by day that I have been addicted to the "taste" of food. Writing down what I think I want makes me look back at all the things that have gotten me this fat to begin with! How could I possible want these things after I see what Atkins is doing for me. Its fun though to see how "strung out" on carbs I used to be....an addict wanting a fix. The last time around, I kept a list too. One one of the days I wrote down what I was craving...the list filled up the page! I got through it though and wonder how I craved "bugs on a log" (celery with peanut butter and raisins) so badly!
