  • And so induction begins.. help/support/advice appreciated!

So here i am, 'sort of' restarting..i think my previous atkins version wasn't really to the T. I had low carb sf drinks like sf strawberry juice and sometimes junked out on low carb cookies ( 1 or 2 per day, not much more). My previous induction also included tea, splenda, and some low carb sweets (around one or 2) and i wasn't really counting carbs just eating from the allowed foods (and yeah some of the unallowed!)... so let's just say this IS my first REAL shot at induction. counting and all. I'm still in spring break and going out alot so it can be a challenge right now..

    DAY 1

BF: 2 egg omelette and 2 slices deli turkey chopped TOTAL 6g

LUNCH: 2 cups spinach salad, olive oil drizzle, 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms, 2 spoons dressing (lemon vinaigrette and mayo-type dressing), chopped celery, and 2 chicken kebabs with cheese and 1 spoon tomato paste melt (margerita style). TOTAL 11g

SNACK: white meat tuna in oil 0g

DINNER: 2 cups spinach salad, 5 radishes chopped, olive oil, 1 spoon ranch dressing, and small grilled chicken breast covered in palm butter and herbs to taste + 1 spoon mayo dip. TOTAL: 4g

TOTAL CARBS FOR THE DAY: 21g.. i know i should max out at 20 but i've been counting up and anything with .5 carb i round up for convenience as 1 additional carb so i probably ate less that 20g or exactly 20g.

today we went to the movies... i had a diet coke since i've had a pact with myself that i can have a diet soda only at the movies. figured out caffeine doesn't affect most people on atkins and it's just at the movies and carb free and calorie free.. weighed all of that and went for it. BOY did i get a crazy head buzz after that! The caffeine kicked me straight into his weird buzzing headache. i have a friend who lost 25 lbs on atkins and he drank diet sodas even on induction (think 5 to 6 cans a day! total junkie), so maybe that's why i feel like i can get away with one at the movies once in a while. Ofcourse they're awful for you so i'm clearly not planning to make a habit of it at all.

i'm so glad day 1 is over... 1 day down, 13 to go!!!!!!!!!!

    ciao ciao

Great decision to give it another go. It may take a few times for some people, but getting back on track is the important thing.

Sounds like you want to be sucessful this time around. Take a look at the DANDR book for the items allowed on induction. For the most part, its 2 cups of salad greens and 1 cup "other veggies". Just glancing over your menu and noticed that you had a total of 4 cups of salad veggies (spinach). This is in addition to the radish and the celery. Also, there are the a few carbs here and there associated with the salad dressings, diet coke, etc...

Great start though...my suggestion would be to check out DANDR to ensure a clean induction!

thanks everyone! thanks quitstretchin that's a mistake i made! i wonder where the 20g limit came from tho? I wondered about that and stuck to it instead since i get reeeealllllly constipated on induction and since 2 cups of spinach are 1 carb i just counted it in for the extra fiber. back to psyllium husks then!

i think i'm losing though.. i'm sure it's water weight! i'm so constipated right now and i'm sure getting on the scales won't be pleasant. i know i'm supposed to weigh myself after 14 days so let's try that. today's day 2 and i want this to work!

just re-read the induction chapter! to get rid of this constipation, i'm sticking to the more cups of veg as long as i don't go over the maximum 20 gram rule Dr. Atkins has appointed. i'm also going to workout regularly during induction, something i had planned to take a break from as i'm used to a dreadful headache or flu when i go into induction.

today i'll be doing my bar method dvd and a 600 calorie burn on the elliptical. but right now gotta run for breakfast and some errands, plz wish me luck.

hey elle, how are you? You sound so motivated. How much water are you drinking, half your body weight in oz??? You don't have a tremendous amount to loose, so it may be slow going, but getting away from the sugars and processed carbs is going to be a huge blessing and after this first week of induction, and ketosis happens, your energy will soar...No more sugar blues and lack of energy for you!
Be patient, you don't have far to go...Keep reading your book!

Thanks for your supporting words! Those last ten pounds go down crazy slow eh.

won't worry too much about the scale though cuz i'm planning to put on more muscle than what i have already. I'm going back to doing the bar method, which tones me likes crazy but i stopped doing it after building my thighs too much. looking back i feel like i was nuts because i had great athletic legs that were rock hard and totally defined, but somehow i just wanted a lower number on the scale and the muscle mass was weighing me down... as stupid as that sounds. I'm honestly not taking anymore crap from myself. I'll get my muscle mass back and lose more body fat faster instead.

I'm committing to 3 toning days a week, each 45 mins (2 bar method sessions and 1 winsor pilates maximum burn dvd), in addition to 5-6 cardio sessions per week. 5 being the bare minimum. i'm used to this level of activity so it's not takin on too much too fast, incase someone might think so, cuz i know how that can put up those who are new to exercising up for disappointment.

              ____

              DAY 2 so far

BF: 2 egg omelette fried in olive oil, 2 deli turkey slices chopped (TOTAL 6g carbs)

LUNCH: spinach salad (2 cups), olive oil, 1/2 cup mushrooms, 2 spoons mayo, grilled chicken breast patted with palm butter and sprinkled with herbs ot taste. (TOTAL 4g carbs)

i'm drinking loooooots of water! had two jugs of water and some so i'm way beyond 1 litre. i'm working out on the elliptical tonight so i'll be drinking even more water.

workout so far: i did 45 toning (the bar method dvd - fat free) and tonight i'll be watching tv and working out on the elliptical for around 45 mins. for a total of 90 mins exercise. i've also joine the january mileage challenge! yay for that! after years of working out it starts getting boring and forced sometimes, but this really is the much needed motivation i'd been hoping for!

              ciao for now
