  • We rock!!

So I was just in Target buying some new workout clothes and some food for the week when I noticed a heavy family. Mom, dad, a baby/toddler in the cart and a boy and a girl. All of them heavy. Of course int heir cart could be found a few varieties of potato and tortilla chips, soda, nestle quick chocolate, cookies, twinkies, ice cream, bread, all that stuff. The boy and girl were munching on the bag of cookies and the mom was eyeballing picking up a bag of candy (I just happened to by walking by the END of the candy isle, not IN the candy isle, just FYI tee hee).

And then I thought. Say what you want about falling off the wagon and on the wagon and try try again and failure and success, at least those of us on this board, and especially those of us on STAC have recognized our problems, our addictions, and the need for change. None of us on this board, whether on or off the wagon, cheating or cheat free, are purposefully ignorant. We have all sought out a better way, admitted a new path must be found and are trying to etch it out for ourselves.

So while we beat ourselves up for a cheat moment or day or week, at least we're not completely living in the cloud of the American diet of processed, sugar laden, white flour poison that so many are living under, in denial.

Congratulations for all of us for coming to terms with out weight and DOING something about it! I hear all day long the ladies at work going on and on and on about how hard it is to lose while they much on cakes and candies and chips and recoil in horror when I am microwaving my chicken "stir fry". Seriously--the other day, I had my stir fry on the counter ready to go in the microwave, and this lady came in and literally jumped back and said, "Good God, what ARE you ingesting?" I looked at her like she was nuts. And I said casually "Chicken stir fry." She said, "Oh, I didn't recognize what it was, it scared me there for a moment." Ummmm...it was broccoli, chicken tenderloins, peanuts and mushrooms. Meanwhile, she was making herself a nice bowl of rice with gravy on top, mashed potatos with gravy on top, a piece of turkey with gravy on top, a huge white bread roll and a piece of chocolate cake (I work in a facility where we feed people and emplyees eat for free). But, MY food is unrecognizable? I said back, "Yeah, well I can't blame you, things that come from nature these days are less and less comon in the American Diet." She kind of snickered and off she went. Now, that woman is tiny tiny tiny. But she's also had a quadruple bypass two years ago. Hmmmmm.

So I just want to say to everyone who may come down on themselves--remember those we see everyday who aren't even trying. And just think what an accomplishment you have made.

It's funny. I used to think of splurging as eating chips or cookies or cakes or pizza. Now I consider a couple handfuls of popcorn or a drink of diet orange soda a splurge Know what? We aren't doing too bad at all!

Snowing buckets in Denver, 37 degrees. It's been either warm and snowing or freezing and not snowing. This is the coldest winter I've experienced in Denver in 8 years that I've lived here. Can't wait for this summer--warm weather, and a smaller me! Yay!

    Take care until tomorrow!

Congratulations to you for coming back to this WOE. It is true that once you've lived this WOE, you look at food differently. I find myself always thinking of the nutritional value of the foods I'm eating while I also enjoy the good taste of natural foods. Here's to another year of love, life and health eating the Atkins' way!

You know, that's a really good point. We might expect ourselves to be perfect all the time on this diet but the reality is that we have faced our demons, so to speak, and that's really the most important step. Without doing that, we'd be nowhere.

cool post... and it reminds me that this is a way of eating for the long haul... not just for a while....

and it's even rubbing off on hubby... (no he's NOT doing atkins... but I made a salad, fried pork chops, and made him a box of macaroni (he can't live with it he says)... but I asked if he wanted bread (he used to ALWAYS eat a roll.. frozen biscuit.. or at least toast... but he said NO! AND... he's started 'tolerating' crystal lite (instead of the 6 to 8 soft drinks he consumes every day)..

so... while he's not doing the same thing I am... he's doing better...

          I think we all are!

            Pigs, great post!

I notice the heavy people eating junk and shudder, because 6 months ago, that was ME. But I'm so happy I realized not only that I needed to change, but that I figured out the way to do it the healthy and safe way.

              Re: We rock!!

This is kinda like the day I was at Cracker Barrel and watching this group of four women, all of which could not fit on the chairs... and they ordered their meals... and were eating the rolls, and mashed potatoes, and everything starchy, and then completely *bypassed* the meat.. I was like, geez, don't they have it backwards?!

Great post! Even when I was "off" Atkins, I made better choices. I still rarely ate proccessed food or "white" food. At least I was aware of what foods are healthy!

I can completely agree with this statement...even when I wasn't losing weight and "on" Atkins...I still made better choices than I did 3 years ago. I've definitely curbed the "sneak" eating issue that I dealt with for years - and even though I put back on 60 pounds....I consider myself a little wiser all around.

Good Observations - use it to your Atkins Advantage and keep going!
