  • Second Go At It!! Help

This is my third go at atkins to loose weight, The first and second time worked great, I lost weight without even working out. Now Im 14 days into a clean induction and feel great. The first 7 days lost 6 lbs. In the last 7 days I added cardio (eliptical machine) and my weight has stayed the same!!
Help!!! Why did this happen??? Everyone says exercise is so important, why should I if is going to make me stall. Im confused. I thought the weight would come off even faster .

First of all, not losing one week is NOT a stall. Our weights fluctuate all the time. Maybe you have gained muscle or your body is holding onto water because you worked out more but didn't up your water. Give your body a chance...it will catch up. Exercise is good for us in SO many respects, not only for weightloss.

First, take a deep breath. Then, congratulate yourself on the loss of 6 pounds AND on beginning to exercise! Weight loss is not necessarily a daily thing...and it doesn't mean anything is wrong just because the scale doesn't drop each day. When you start exercising when you weren't doing so before, your body may retain fluid - the body has to adjust to the changes you are making. The exercise is KEY! Don't even think about giving that up! If the scale remains "stuck" - make friends with your tape measure...you can be losing fat even if the scale doesn't move. By the way, how much weight do you have to lose?
Seriously, pat yourself on the back for the positive changes you have made and keep on keepin' on - you're doing great!

It's really hard for us who have alot to lose. My husband had 50 lbs to lose and has lost 41 lbs of it. I had 121 to lose and lost 31 so far. My husband heres from everyone how great he looks and how good he is doing while i feel like i am just sitting in his shadow. But we have to keep in mind that 31 lbs is 31 lbs!!!! It's gonna take time to get or weight down. Everytime you change your excercise your body holds on to water cause it's not sure what the heck is going on, but then your body will see "oh its ok" then let it go. I promise to you, it will come off and probably in a swoosh. I hereby am sending you the swoosh fairy! Good Luck and if you need anything, just ask!

It's probably one of two things: the exercise or the 3rd week syndrome (come a week early).

Exercise: when you start exercising your muscles do two things: grow, and retain water. So, you could be burning fat but adding muscle and at the same time be retaining a little water. Keep exercising, and your muscles will adjust and you'll see the weight drop.

3rd week syndrome: A lot of people report not losing any weight the 3rd week. My personal opinion is that it's just a post induction 'rest' so to speak. It's nothing to worry about, your body is still doing things properly, and weight loss will resume. It could be that for you that little mini-stall came a week early.

I didn't lose a single pound in the month of december, but my clothes fit much better now than they did at the end of november. Measure! Also, you can't be chained to the scale or you're going to make yourself crazy every time you don't lose weight the way you think you should. Weight loss is a big cycle, you lose, you plateau, you lose again, etc... You have to let go of the thought that you should be losing all the time, embrace your new lifestyle, and know that it will come off eventually if you keep on working at it.

              Hey Buckey,
Knicky is right, as are the others...
why don't you post some of your meals, so we can see what you are eating.
Hang in there, and don't panic, or get frustrated or you might quit! That would not help.
Your body goes thru alot of changes, and weight has a way of coming off in it's own sweet time...The success of this plan is when you determine to make it lifestyle! Not a short term fix. One day at a time friend, one day at a time.

Re: Second Go At It!! Help

The other thing to make mention of - is typically people are super cognizant of what they are eating the first week, because they are new. They get rewarded with a nice weight loss - and sometimes the 2nd week they go a little heavy with things like cheese or veggies - and are still rewarded with a nice weight loss...and then sometimes by the 3rd week you've pushed the envelope on the 20 grams of carbs that you're not quite in ketosis like you thought - weight loss slows and then people get discouraged.... The longer you can do Atkins, by the book, the better your results will be in the long rung.

                Best of luck!
