  • Meat is starting to look gross to me... :(

What am I going to do? I don't know why but for the last few weeks i've been really grossed out by meat. Mind you, I am a huge carnivore and my favorite food has always been a big old steak, so it's not like i'm eating any more meat now than I was before or anything. I usually eat a slice of london broil for lunch and a piece of chicken for dinner, so I'm not overdoing it on the meat.

But, for some reason I am like 'ew' when I am trying to eat meat recently.

Is there anything I can do to get around this? Anyone have any good recipes where the meat is hidden, or covered in something tasty? Right now i'm just eating it as a slab of meat, maybe in a casserole it won't be so bad.

    Help!

Wow..that's a new one on me. I've been thinking of concocting a faux shepheds pie with ground beef, onions, cheese, and faux cauliflower potatos....grinding it up and mixing it with other stuff helps. What is is that your sick of, exactly--what do you feel or think when you look at or think of eating it that is bothering you?

I love to make stir-frys! Cut chicken, beef, or pork into cubes, brown in a large pan or wok. Add veggies, soy sauce, schzeuhan sauce, hot sauce, etc. and mix well. You won't miss the rice!

I also like to make chicken and broccoli alfredo. Cut up the chicken, brown in oil. Add garlic and broccoli. Add alfredo sauce and pour over spaghetti squash. This is probably one of my favorite meals!

Sometimes "regular" meat seems heavy. Try something lighter like shrimp. Sautee them in butter, boil them in Old Bay seasoning, serve cold with sauce, toss them into veggies. Another meal I love is taco salad. Brown ground beef, add seasonings. Prepare a plate with lettuce, peppers, cheese, sour cream, top with meat. Eggs are also good protein sources. Have egg salad made with mustard, mayo, and celery for lunch. Have an omelet for dinner. Have a hardboiled egg as a snack.

Re: Meat is starting to look gross to me...

I'm not sure what it is that is turning me off. It's the texture maybe? All I know is that today I had my lunch in front of me: a salad with blue cheese dressing, some artichoke hearts with olives and feta cheese, and a slice of london broil. I ate up the whole salad and the hearts, and was like ugh when looking at the meat. I ate it, but I didn't eat the middle of it, which seems to mean it's a texture thing.

I think if I mix it with something else that should help. I'm going to go to the grocery store, I'll pick up some ground beef, alfredo sauce, chicken, broccoli and maybe some veggies to make stir fry. Ugh. I just have no interest in food at the moment.

Maybe i'll have to turn to my infamous quiche to keep the blahs away. Bacon, cheese and eggs should be enough protein...

Umm...well...hmmmm...the only time I felt like that was when I was pregnant with my son. I guess just go on tuna and chicken salads instead of slabs of meat on your plate. Maybe that will help?

Okay, I just ate a steak (a real one) and it was yummy - no problems there.

Maybe it's just the london broil i've been eating itself, and not that I'm getting grossed out by meat. Hmmm. Well, either way I'm going to the store tomorrow to get some variety into my life. I've been too lazy about cooking for far too long.

On the menu: quiche, chicken with mushrooms in a mornay sauce, and some taco salads I think. here's hoping!

Re: Meat is starting to look gross to me...

Hi I did not read everyone elses post! I am re-starting today! But have done this in the past and what I do to change up recipes in green peppers and cheese, Salsa, Homemade Marinara, Sour cream, Start trying different spices at the supermarket as well changing the taste helps. Grilled onions and mushrooms terriakyi sauce. Just watch the amount of things a little goes a long way. I even make BBQ sauce from the lowcarb ketchup by adding splenda and wustature sauce. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!1

I seriously understand this. I often find meat nauseating. I don't have any advise. Sorry.

Re: Meat is starting to look gross to me...

I've had this problem myself before- it was the texture that bothered me. I find if i cook the meat super slow- either in a crockpot or oven- that I can avoid the "gross out texture" problem. I don't know why- i guess because you don't have to chew it as long- it just melts in your mouth.

Now i'm getting hungry for meat

Yeah it seems to be a texture problem for me right now. Very odd. Like I said, I'm really not eating any more meat than I was prior to this. WEIRD!

I went out and bought some chicken and some ground beef, hopefully that will be different. Maybe some fish would be a change up. Hmm...

My DH had a nice tuna steak today which looked great - I think I will have the same tomorrow when we go out to lunch!!

I have the same thing sometimes. With being on OWL it isn't bad. Sometimes I I have meals that do not involve any meat/egg. Like a big salad with feta, and some nuts on the side(only if at the proper rung).

Smoked salmon is also wonderful to eat with a big salad. I like mine with plenty of homemade mayo! Mummm, must buy some!
