  • Tues 1/23 Checkin

    Good morning STACers
This morning during "drive time" with my daughter, a time I have capitalized on for 11 yrs. We discussed really tightening things up, to get looser clothes.

Tighten things up to get looser. I love to play with words, create slogans, tag lines, and basically get it back down to basics. So you can walk away with a few words and a big concept....It's what i do with kids, it's how I think, it's using words practically to provide motivation and direction!

Drive time was all about counting our carbs, tightening up our eating, paying attention to that feeling: Satisfied. Checkingout the carb count on a few things we were "just ingesting"...
See, we are about to be "IN" for 6 months, and I am getting a little careless and sloppy. I can feel myself not too concerned with too much, but I've gone up a pound and it's not going away...Caitlin WENT OUT OF ketosis last week...These are all signs and symptoms and a REFLECTION of us "easing things up" a bit. We are not cheating, but we are NOT PAYING ATTENTION very well. I ate a snack of a few olives, grn pepper, and sunflower seeds last night at 8, followed by some jello and a splash of cream. that part was just not needed...
I know myself fairly well these are signs of boredom, and carelessness. They are rooted in an ATTITUDE, that I might have just under the surface that I am "UNTOUCHABLE" by carbs now. I bet if I dig deep enough, I am going to find a cocky attitude, that feels unfazed, and above it all now....
SINCE I SENSE this about myself, today I am committing to GOING BACK TO BASICS, EXAMINING ALL I EAT, DRINK and EXERCISE.
I am going to tighten up, so I can stay loose in the waist!
I am sitting here wearing pants I have not had on for 7 yrs. They are out of style, and they are a bit tight in the waist, but they were my dream pants.
Sunday I wore my sisters Abercombie size 12's to church...My daughter is empting out her jean drawer and handing down things that no longer fit her!

Time to tighten things up at my end of the deal here....So I can wear loose clothes now and in the near future.

Good Morning all, great post Jess like always you have such a insight to everything. I feel as though you do at times, not this time around yet but i just am in week 4 so we will see but i have to be careful, i eat out of boredom and that is pretty much how i end up in a downward spiral if i dont be careful. I love the idea of getting rid of clothes you have grown out of, that way if you get sloppy you wont have a choice but to get it right or go naked lol. Well I hope you all have a great day, and just a quick update---i feel so much better, those antibiotics are working and the cold in my chest is finally breaking up so i think in a day or so it will be gone. Well im off to start my day and i will check in later.

Congrats on the size 12s, Jess!! Whoo hooo! You rock!

Sloppy. Great word. I think I have gotten laxed in my foods and preperation. Eye balling things... foods can easily be over indulged. Gotta tighten up! Become aware. This will be an ongoing thing in my life. I was hoping it would become second nature and I could just eye ball it... not so.

        Re: Tues 1/23 Checkin

        Great post!

Jess--congrats on those 12s! And Abercrombie and Fitch, nonetheless!

Lisa--I'm a "bored" eater on weekends and I am fighting to stop this habit. I try to drink my water instead, and it's working. I also have started eating a meal when I'm hungry, rather than snacking until it's an appropriate "mealtime." This has saved me MANY calories and many carbs!!!

Rachel--I try not to eyeball, but sometimes I'm too lazy to wash that measuring cup. So yep, I'm right there with ya!

I have to work on portion sizes. I'm good about eating WHEN I'm hungry for the most part, but sometimes I'm just eating too much and not recognizing when I'm full. It seems to happen quickly. SO I need to slow down, drink my water, take my time.

        Have a great day, all!

Jess-great idea! Size 12 A and F's.....lucky girl, you! I think I'll tighten it up this week as well with portion control and ixnay on some of my heavy cream servings.

Just your average day for me. Going to work and eating well and working out at the end of the day. Although I must say--my foot is KILLING ME and it's interfering with working out. I have this condition called Morton's Neuroma, which is basically just an enlarged nerve stuck in between my toe bones. Very common, especially with runners. It sends pins and needles, shooting electric like pain up my toes, and sometimes just feels like a hot poker stuck between my bones. It flares up whenever you "pound" your feet (running, my new favorite sport, UGH!). I got cortisone shots before and considered having surgery, now I simply must do something. After literally forcing myself to deal with the pain on the treadmill for 30 minutes yesterday, I couldn't take it anymore and had to get off and head over to the bicycles. I made it ten minutes on that and then I had to just stop and let the pain subside and limp home. So I need a cortisone shot badly to go on with working out much longer. And wouldn't you know it, my foot doc sent a letter out to me saying he is quitting the foot doc business and is becoming a full time pastor! Gotta get a new exam and whatnot. Expensive when you're uninsured. But I WILL do it!

Other than that, just on my way out, it's a nice day, the scale is finally down one measely pound since I started up again two weeks ago. But I'm losing inches and ketostix are showing moderate levels, so no biggie.

Hope everyone has a good day!

            Re: Tues 1/23 Checkin

            Hi everyone!

Jess, your post is perfect for us STA'ers because we all know that feeling...except we ignored it and that's what got most of us here again. It did me, at least! I did think I was invincible. I thought the rules didn't apply to me. This time I'm really trying to visualize myself years down the road, still using my measuring cups and food scale and fitday *just to check* my portions. That's the part where I went wrong last time.

As for me, yesterday I was so excited about eating an extra veggie and what did I do? I ate so much cheese that I didn't have any extra carbs to spend on the veggie! Doh! That was stupid. Cheese adds carbs without fiber so that really adds up. Cheese is my weakness! One of the problems is that I have no cream cheese around the house and I try to snack on that because the carb count is SO low. So I'll just have to run by the store today. I was SO looking forward to eating some pumpkin or my chayote squash! Darn!

I did go to the gym last night and really pushed myself. I'll be going again tonight too.

Pigs - that is awful about your foot! I know injuries like that that make it difficult to exercise can be really depressing. Can you focus on weight lifting for a while?

              Re: Tues 1/23 Checkin

Jess- wonderful post. It's EXACTLY what i've been going through for the last month. I'm not eating carbs any more than I was, but I'm eating 'legal' food like it's going out of style. And, instead of cooking I'll have cashews and yogurt for dinner, with some cheese, etc... I just eat and eat and I know it's because I'm bored.

So, today I resolved to go to the store and cook up something yummy. I haven't actually done it yet, but it will be done if I have anything to say about it. :P Not sure what it will be yet, but we'll see!

                Re: Tues 1/23 Checkin

Morning all, kudos on the size 12 Jess. I can't wait to go down a size. I have been bedridden since Sunday morning and today just have enough strength to check my emails and pop in here. Boy its tough eating legal foods sometimes when your body is all messed up. But I have been good!!! I just feel so guilty because I have been so sedentary. Okay time to go take another nap. Hopefully this bug will be gone by tomorrow.

                  Re: Tues 1/23 Checkin

Good Post! I wonder if the majority of us got off track because we got sloppy the first (or 2nd) time around? I refuse to eyeball anything for the time being because my eyeballs are still seeing my old portion sizes (gy-normous). A lot of the gals at work were on diets as well for the last couple of weeks. I say were because all, except me, have fallen off the bandwagon. And now the real pressure starts. "Come on, just a little taste". Yuck, it's all sugary and sweet and not something I need or want. I jut try to remember what I felt like when I was eating that stuff (junk) and that does the trick for me. I can't and wont refuse to give up now. Have a great rest of the afternoon all!
