    we can have deli meat right? so.... when I ask for something with no sugar or sodium nitrates, why do i get the same answer from all the markets? "no, we dont have anything without sugar or sodium nitrate? I live in Victoria, B.C and I cant find any quick lunch meats????

    I have the same problem. So I just make sure I find something with as less sugar as possible, or something with less than 2% sugar in the ingredients list. I can't find one single meat without it. Just do the best you can, make the best possible choice. You'll just have to control your portions and/or keep a close eye on your ketosis and make sure it doesn't knock you out of it. If it does, lesson learned. Maybe trying going to a butcher shop or deli. I've been meaning to do that but so far haven't. I bet they'd have organic stuff there. Or I bet Whole Foods/Simple Foods, whatever national fancy healthy food chain you have where you are would have some. Basically, I just odn't really eat lunchmeat much, only once in awhile if I'm stuck in a jam.

      I agree, just do the best you can. I know that Whole Foods has nitrate-free bacon so maybe they have some nitrate-free deli meats.

      There's also a new type of Hormel meat (I think) that uses a different preservation process that is WITHOUT nitrates.

        Hello

        I did not even think about this issue before, that being, sugar in processed meats.

        I purchase turkey pastrami and lightly fry it to have it with eggs. It makes delicious devilled eggs too.

        I ate it during induction ( not realising that it contained sugar) and I did not seem to have any problems with it, in terms of not making excellent progress and reaching my goal weight. I would not eat it every day. About four slices twice a week.

        It is excellent cooked with cabbage or swiss chard!!!
