  • bad cravings today

Ok earlier i was talking about having almost 4 weeks done, without a binge and doing good losing 13lbs in those 4wks and 5inches off my waist, well today i have had the worst cravings for food, not anything in particular, just that i want to eat, the only thing i can think of is the pumpkin recipe i made last night and ate some of it today as well. I used pumpkin, cream cheese, splenda, vanilla extract and nutmeg, which i use splenda daily in my coffee so thats never been a problem, the only new things i added was the pumpkin and the spices, so maybe that is what did it. Im writing all this because im trying to overcome the need or i should say want to go eat, i have done really well with this up until today. I am probally over in calories because i went ahead and made me some scrambled eggs and turkey sausage which was not on plan, which i figured was better than other things i could have choosen, trying to get the fat and protein in to overcome these cravings, any advice would help. I also noticed that the color on the keto strips is very light where it has been dark purple, not sure if that means anything. Ok im done venting, maybe this will help me writing it all out and getting some feedback.

Vanilla extract is usually made with CORN SYRUP. I hardly ever, ever, ever use it, and when I do, it's really high quality stuff and it's used sparingly in a large recipe. I am guessing this could have contributed to your cravings.

*EDITED TO ADD*--Lisa, when I make this, I only use pumpkin, cream cheese, cinnamon, and a tiny bit of stevia, never splenda.

Thanks Julie, i would have never knew that, i just see that people were saying pumpkin spice and i had none so i tried to spice it up myself, maybe that is what it was, i really enjoyed the pumpkin recipe, tasted like a pumpkin pie but if i ever make it again i will definately leave out the vanilla extract. i gave the rest of it to my younger daughter who loved it so i could get it out of my fridge without throwing it in the garbage can, thanks again for the heads up. Also i keep saying im going to get stevia, but the only place i have ever seen it is on the internet, can you get this at any health store.

Yup--a health store is where you'll find it. It's sold as a supplement, not a sweetener. If they wanted to market it as a sweetener, they'd have to go through a bunch of rigamarole from the FDA. I bought the liquid stuff, but they also make granulated stuff in packets or shakers. Stevia doesn't cause cravings in me like splenda can...BUT some people complain of a somewhat bitter anise-like taste if you use too much stevia...but I've never tasted anything "off" about it.

Julie - I noticed you use the liquid stevia which I have bought but not had any success in using.
Can you say how much you use in recipes? I think I must be adding too much.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Lisa! Girl I hope that you have made it thru the day! Those kind of days are the worst. Sometimes there is an loss of appetite effect that comes from hard exercise too...and of course drinking a bunch of water.
I had a very emotional stressful day yesterday and I just kept drinking more water, it kept me busy and in the bathroom, it also helped me avoid too much "hungries" which were my head rumbling not my stomach grumbling! The munchie days are usually far and few between for me, but definately time consuming when they hit...someone once said a high fat thing helps because it's soooo satisfying. I use green olives...and Caitlin and I learned not to have sweet stuff around, we made pumpkin over the holidays with cream cheese and splenda and vanilla....called our names constantly.

                Re: bad cravings today

                Hello Lisa,

I just wanted to throw my two cents in on the subject matter. I am not sure how much everyone will like my "advice" here, but this is how I get by in the arena of sweet cravings and munchie cravings. Splenda does not make me crave, i find anything I make that has Splenda in it satiates me--BUT I have also not ever really been one for sweets cravings that kill. My cravings are buttery bread things and salty crunchy things.

But as far as having things around such as pumpkin and whatnot....I bought this tiny little tupperware jars at Target. What I use them for is when I make a vat of home made ice cream on the weekend. If I just put the ice cream in one big bowl, I definitely find my portions much more difficult to control. I haven't had the pumpkin yet, but if I made some, I would segregate a small amount into the small tupperwares and keep them in the fridge. Allow yourself ONE a day. I need segregation with my snacks and desserts ahead of time, or I find myself dipping and dipping and dipping into it.

What ends up happening when I segregate and allow one a day, I know exactly how many servings I have and I am happier knowing that each day after lunch at work, I can have this little ice cream treat, enough to get me through the week and that makes me put them on reserves. Say if it's Monday and I have 5 tupperwares of ice cream left, I know that I won't make any more until the weekend, so I'll be sure to only use the five left sparingly to get me through. Make sense?

In my snack craving world, I depend on tupperwares and ziploc baggies and segregations of quantities like nobody's business.

So I'd recommend trying to make your goodies ahead of time, and seperate them into their proper portions for a snack or dessert. IT REALLY HELPS ME!! Otherwise, I find myself dipping my spoon into the fridge bowl of yummy stuff too often.

                Good luck!
