  • "You can afford to outwait it"

I feel like I have been stuck at my current weight for a while now, seeing a shift to the left and a shift to the right! 1 pound on either side...I am getting frustrated with that, so I went to the doctor! It bares quoting because He makes a good bit of sense to my high strung "want it now" attitude...

"Remember 2 things: First your body is not a machine. Nor is it a duplicate of anyone else's body. It has it's own system, it's own agenda, and its own timetable. In the long run, it nearly always responds to sensible managment by the person in charge- you. But, in the short run, your body may decide to go it's own way, for it's own reasons, which perhaps we dont understand. Don't get mad at it. It's a good body or it wouldn't have gotten you this far. Be patient, you can afford to outwait it!
I told my daughter I was tired and cranky and I had a goal darnit, and I wanted it to happen, and I was doing alot to make it happen...She smiled and told me, "well those are just feelings mom"...

I can afford to outwait it. I like that line. What other options do we have, starve ourselves??? I don't think that will work, plus it makes things dangerous, I act badly with food when I am starved...I never allow myself to be starved...
What other choice do I have, I am exercising all I can. I am drinking all the water I can. I guess it's all about controlling the emotions and outwaiting what my body is doing...

I think I'll make myself listen to the good doctor, so hard his whole plan has taken me to a great place, I could not get to on my own! I am gonna outwait this one!

YES! Because the alternatives are what, exactly??? We can only control those things that we can control...everything else will follow in it's own sweet time. That one took me a LONG time and a lot of regained weight to "learn." I remember as a child saying "I can't wait for <insert whatever anticipated thing here>" - whatever it was - my Grams would always say, well, of course you can and you've got plenty you can do in the meantime! And so it is with the weight we want off our bodies...we can't tell it when to come off but we can sure do all the right things in the meantime!

yep, I am into that big time....I can't control that weight and when it's leaving my body...
I can control what I put in and the energy I expend....that's it!!!! I've been telling myself things...and will probably have to leave the scale alone now because it's getting too controlling, don't you know....
I can't give it that power...

Jess, you can also take a step back and look at the whole picture. You have come sooooo far -- you've lost over 60 pounds! You are an entirely different woman than you were when you embarked on this new way of life, both physically and mentally. Also.... those last pounds that you want to lose will probably be the most difficult to lose. Your body will want to hold onto them and won't give them up easily.

You have been a tremendous inspiration to all of us, probably so much that we all forget that you do indeed have emotions too. You are our rock!

I'd like to tell you to be patient, but that is definitely much easier said than done, right? Your words seem to fit best.... just outwait it!

I also like your doctor's phrase....I've had the same feelings over and over again. Right now, my main focus is to stay on plan and let my body catch up to all thats happened to me and then I'm sure the weight will once again start moving. I listen to a doctor on XMradio once who said not to get frustrated and quit. Then you'll have to start over again. Just keep plugging away at it and focus more on keeping yourself motivated than to watch the scales. I've been doing that and at least the weight isn't coming back on. Here's to WAITING IT OUT!!!

Just went back and edited this whole post of mine. Dream, I am quoting Dr Atkins from Chapter 15 of the DANDR...He is who I follow...He has something to say about most things!
