  • Need input....

Yesterday, I had an incredibly physically demaning day at work and the strangest thing happened. I was doing the center's dishes and in charge of the meals for the day, which is a normal thing. But yesterday, I kept getting called out of the kitchen to help with a few heavy-care patients who needed help changing or in the bathroom. Some of them were very heavy and after the 4th or 5th lift, I got this instant, pounding headache and my vision got momentarily blurry. I stopped for a second, and was amazed at this clamminess I felt on the back of my neck and through my clothes. I went back to the kitchen, had some water and stopped for a minute. The nurse checked my vitals. I was fine, but I still felt dizzy, and just like something was wrong. I felt beyond exhausted and my head was pounding. I wasn't hungry. In fact I had a great lunch of chicken wings and a salad and hot tea followed by some home made ice cream. I couldn't seem to snap out of it and it just felt like my body was screaming for energy. I didn't say anything to the nurse about my low-carb because I didn't want to keep feeding the public's fear of the WOE, but suddenly, I told myself that i needed carbohydrates. It wasn't a craving, it wasn't anything like that. Something just kept telling me to eat some carbohydrates. So I had a few bites of mashed potatos leftover from lunch and a bit of a dinner roll. I just sat down, chilled out, drank some water and ate some carbs. I didn't go overboard, but for some reason, I couldn't shake the feeling that was the problem. I started to level out and finished the day at work, but took it easy. I came home exhausted and drained and got into bed with some cashews and hot tea and "recovered".

has anyone experienced this? I know I should see a doctor and have his guidance, but such is life for the uninsured. Any input would be great!

Are you feeling better today?? HOpe so!

    1. Was the salad for lunch the only carbs you had that day? I try to have a little at each meal to stop that fuzzy/light headed feeling.

    2. How long after eating lunch did you feel like this? more than four hours? Could be you were low in fuel! Smart choice to get something to eat.

    3. How many carbs and what kinds of carbs did you eat that day. What kind is very important. I keep a list of acceptable foods on my fridge and amounts that need to be eaten every day. most people think if they eat less than the needed amount they will lose weight. maybe at first.. but the min. is there for a reason.. your body does need carbs... just limited amounts and coming from certain foods

Yes, Joy, I think that was it. After I typed out this post and went to work, I thought, "You know, I bet I was dehydrated." I already know I struggle with drinking enough water and I've been working out more vigorously. I bet that mixed in with a hard day at work that is physically demanding was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I REALLY need to make sure I drink enough water! What a wake up call...
Thanksf or the input to Rachel, too!
