  • Hoping to start tomorrow.

    I wonder if anyone can help me here. I was on atkins for nearly two weeks a couple of weeks ago, but gave up because i caught a virus, and i got sick of eating the same things. I don't really like any meats at the minute(i've gone off it completely) and i'm getting really fed up of eating salad day in day out. I can have it once a day for a meal, but i think the main reason i went offtrack last time was because i was sick of eating the same foods all the time and i couldnt come up with other things to eat. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.
    I'm from UK so can't get hold of a lot of the atkins things that people in the US can

    Hi Laura

    Have another look at the list of allowed veggies and you can find lots on the 'salad' list that can be eaten cooked - celery, peppers, mushrooms, radishes (after boiling they make a good substitute for boiled new potatoes with butter) daikon (great sliced and fried in butter or roasted). Even lettuce can be sauteed in butter or oil for a non-salady taste!

    One good way to get lots of ideas is to start a thread in the induction forum called 'what's for dinner?' or breakfast etc and see what other people are having.

    I made celery and chicken soup this evening which we had with a revolution roll!! Not salady at all!!

      I know where you're at. That's how I felt at first when I started three years ago. It takes time to develop a diverse menu and learn how to cook and use the foods that are allowable. It takes time to have a mental catalog available to you at all times with lots of choices of what to eat, where to get it, how to cook it. Do you cook much? Most people with complaints like yours don't cook very much. I have to cook constantly to keep my menu yummy or else I get bored easily. Way too easily.

      Every weekend, usually on Sundays, I hunker down in the kitchen for a couple of hours and prepare my food to get me through the week. Gouda and almond baggies, home made low carb ice cream, hamburger patties, chicken salads, tuna salads, deviled eggs, green or red peppers strips with cream cheese, cream cheese and cheddar jalapeno poppers, pinwheels, chicken strips with broccoli for spaghetti squash and alfredo sauce. I could go on and on here....

      The only choice you have is that you have to start taking an active interest in learning recipes and reading about all the Induction foods and coming up with new combinations. Buy low-carb cookbooks, read recipes online, etc. IF you don't do that, you will become bored, that boredom will build up into impatience and anger, and you'll give into your old WOE in no time. There is so much more out there than meat and cheese and if you educate yourself, you'll find that there is absolutely no reason to be bored.

      There's no quick fix or easy answer to your dilemma. You just have to decide what you want, and do what you need to do to get it. Start cooking, girl! Good luck, I KNOW how hard it is to get started!
