  • Chemotherapy anyone?

I was a successful first timer, losing 92 pounds (although still not reaching my goal) with a combination of diet and walking 2-3 miles a day. Then life happened. My dad got sick with terminal cancer and I was his primary caregiver 'til he died last march. My mom has Alzheimer's disease and I had to put her in an assisted living facility - in a lot of ways, that was tougher than dealing with Dad since she didn't want to go. Then, when I finally got that all settled down, I was diagnosed with colon cancer this past fall. I had surgery the day before Thanksgiving (at least I didn't pig out at Thanksgiving dinner - only had a couple of ice chips). I eat in response to stress and I have put 50 pounds back on. I want to get back on track, but I'm one omonth into a six month program of chemotherapy and, among aother side-effects, it leaves me extremely fatigued, so exercise is a real problem. I get exhausted just walking to the mailbox at the corner.

Is there anyone out there trying to do Atkins and chemotherapy? I could use some support.

    Re: Chemotherapy anyone?

I have no idea what you are going thur but I wanted you to know we are here for you. Many people feel many times better while following the program. Even with out exercise it may help you to have more energy. Also whe I first started Atkins I was not able to exercise due to other medical issues. I lost just very slowly, I was thankful for every week I dint gain. I am glad you are here and we will support you all we can.

Hey ThomasEarl, glad to have you. You have been through a lot. I imagine putting your mother in the assisted care was very difficult. I am sure loosing your father was very difficult, and I suspect you have gotten through these previous difficult things and now you face your own health crisis, and I have a feeling you have come to a place where you will draw support and strength for this next most difficult step, chemotherapy. Thank God for the advances in the therapies out there! Hopefully you will not have too many side effects to deal with. My ver good friend just came thru a 6 month 6 cycle chemo, and she is cancer free. The days were long at times and yet there were more complications from surgery before the treatments, so I am hope you too will have a safe trip through the chemo.
