Good morning STAC! I hope this friday finds you thriving on Atkins way of life.

I was just sitting here reflecting on my life, something I usually do at this hour of the morning, it's how I get connected to building my way of life.
I am at a season in my work where I am giving out in highly concentrated ways, full of energy, zeal and oh yeah I am passionate about my work and message, and it comes flying out!!! A few years ago, while working I was also overeating and high carbing it...I fet terrible, looked terrible and felt shame...So ashamed of myself...there was alot of me.

With in one week of doing Atkins you begin to replace shame with pride. Shame is heavy, it's loaded and it brings us soooo down, and we try so hard to be up in the middle of carrying around a shame about how we are out of control.

With in a few days of induction, once you are past white knuckling it out, forcing yourself through the induction flu and getting yourself going, two amazing things happen, you enter ketosis and the energy starts up, and it is thrilling and then this pride rises up...You start to get sooo proud of yourself, it's a WEIGHT LOSS ALL BY IT SELF...We are so proud to be doing something about our situation...Pride swells and we feel just great, and can't believe we feel as good as we doooooo......

Shame weighs us down. We know we are not free, we can't seem to get a grip, and we feel so awful about ourselves, so ashamed.
When we break that eating cycle, it hurts, it's hard and it plagues us for a while, but truthfully we do eventually enter into this new place...and it is shame-free...
Now I don't know about you, but I don't want to go back to feel terrible about myself again, I don't want to go back to shame. let alone fatigue, stomach aches, heart burn, exhaustion, and irritablity....
I love the self confidence and especially the self pride...It makes me smile brighter, and go farther in my day. I reach for more in my life, and I try to give more back to life...because i am shame free.
    THINK ABOUT IT...

I'm right there with you Jess! I feeeeeeeeeeeel so great this morning! I can't believe I let myself out of this before...Day 5 of re-induction and my energy level is fantastic. I feel much better about myself, even though it's only 5-6 pounds, it's still 5-6 pounds! Woo Hoo! Tonight I have a gig and it's been a couple weeks since I've played out. I am so looking forward to it. Pulling out the black jeans, the black shirt, the club soda, and headed out for a night of success! Woo Hoo! Life is definately good isn't it?

Your posts are always so inspirational. Glad to converse with you!

scooter, i sing and perform with kids. I have a educational motivation business teaching character education to children....being on Atkins allows me to bring such a great atmosphere and energy to my sessions...the rooms just buzz...every 25 mins for 3 hours I will restart with a new group, and they will walk out buzzed, motivated and encoruaged to give it their best in their life...I get some of that from this way of life and how good I feel inside.

You are very motivational, Jess! Shame should be a four letter word and I am ready to throw of its shackles. Im tired of being embarrassed and ashamed all the time.

I agree, I feel great. This is the BEST I've ever felt in my life, I'm happy to say, and I know that it will only continue to get better as I become healthier.

              Re: Check in 2-23

So glad to have found this board. I remember on my last run with this I got down to 225 - It was the best I had ever felt in my life... This time I want to get down to that and even lose more! Its day 5 for me. I have had a half gallon of water, and I went on the treadmill for 3.5 miles (625 calories!!)

After that I brought a friend of mine to a fast food restaurant, and he ate fries and a burger in my car in front of me... i have to say I was tempted, but there is no way I will give in this time.

One question for those out there - Last time on atkins I had never read the book.. A friend of mine had lost a lot, and he had said about the 20 carbs a day. I took his advice - I did 20 carbs a day for 6 months straight. For the last 45 days of my diet I didnt lose a pound!! I was so furious. What do you think was going on?

              Thanks a lot

Iwanttosing- Welcome! Your really need the book. It will answer a lot of your questions and has solutions for a stall, no weight loss for 4 weeks. Plus, if you remember back, you may have been losing inches at that time.

I picked up a new DANDR book at a local bookstore for $7.99 (paperback).

You will really find it to be a necessity. This board is great, also.

Ditto, you've got to read the book! It explains the science of the diet; the "hows" and "whys" of the reasons it works. Also, check out the stickies in the Atkins Diet FAQ section of the board--those are very helpful!

All carbs are not created equal, just going down to 20 carbs is not enough, there are specific carbs allowed and not allowed in the early days, and there are rungs/level of carbs you go back to slowly one level at a time. There is a thing called the glycemic index and it rates food and their sugar impact on our blood. that's why reading the book is sooo important, all carbs are not equal.....at all.

Hey all....I'm hanging around just "listening" these days. Apparently, I offended some people here and lost their support due to my "I'm going to have bread on my birthday" post, so I sort of crawled into my cave. Thanks to those of you who listened to my plight and understood it, though. It was appreciated more than you know.

I quit my job and today was my last day. I am excited to begin my new career in doing good hair. hehe, a little reference to Steel Magnolias.

This weekend I am embarking upon a new me. No longer do I have to look or buy clothes according to a corporate career. I can finally get that tattoo on my inner forearm that I've wanted. I am also going to repierce my nose. Being the granddaughter of a Hindu, I always liked my nose piercing. I'm not going to be getting too freaky, but I'll be definitely shedding my stifled skin and allowing my true colors to come through. No more pantsuits outfits or nice blouses and sensible shoes and hair. Well, I'll probably not give up the sensible shoes because I'll be on my feet all day doing hair, but you know what I mean . I can dye my hair that deep shade of purple or blue and cut it into a stack bob--if I want to. So many doors I feel are opening up to me and I'm excited to bring it all about. As of today, I am officially free to be me!

So I'm eating well and taking my time about things. I haven't worked out because of the ole foot, but look forward to when I can. I'm working on the water and getting better little by little. I stopped drinking diet coke made with splenda and drastically cut my splenda intake. I wasn't eating boatloads of it, but I did like my diet cokes. Just want to tweak my palette a little bit.

                        Take care, everyone.

Pigs--Quitting soda was the hardest thing for me--even more difficult than giving up carbs! But I'm very glad I did it, just for monetary reasons alone. Since I've stopped drinking diet dr. pepper, I've probably saved $300. Good for you for giving it up.

Greetings! Sorry for my lack of posting, I've just started another job and the learning curve is usually steep in this feild. I doubled my pay and I changed from working nights to working days. It's a great job, but the hours are going to be long...

I finished my official induction on Monday of this week and I only lost a grand total of 6 pounds or so. I'm dissapointed but not too much. I know that the scales will be slower this time. I'm staying on induction for the forseeable future or until I just can't stand it anymore. I'm nowhere near that stage yet, but I'm sure it will come eventually.

Yeah Juli, I hear ya. Although soda drinking has never been a big deal to me because I was raised basically to believe it was Devil Juice. I bought a case from time to time but never Coke or Pepsi or major products like that. Usually a storebrand cream soda or gourmet cream soda. Since I went low carb, I began to use diet sodas without aspartame as a crutch when I felt blah about the WOE. Specifically, Diet Coke made with Splenda. So I'm off the juice now. It's sure to help. I'll just reserve the Diet Coke for days when I feel my resolve going, like when you're out to eat with your peeps and they are all gorging on the buttery bread and desserts!

                              Talk to you later!
