  • Here it is almost Midnight....

    Hi everybody.

I just wanted to pop in. I had the most awesome evening. I played at a new place tonight. I'd never been to this restaurant/bar before. It had high vaulted ceilings, lots of glass and wood, a huge stage. The people were so receptive and actually listened tonight, I kept the place full all three hours. I'm so psyched, I had about 23 of my co-workers who showed up as well. German Cuisine, you know it's odd, everything smells so good at these places but when I see the dishes it's like ....yikes, if I ate that I balloon up 20 pounds. Anyway, back on target, Scooter....

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you all how wonderful it is to have friends, not only people I work with, but you all as well. I've always felt so welcome here, everybody has always been so understanding, and so quick to show admiration and devotion as well.

I usually only play cover songs, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, but tonight I had my co-workers requesting my original songs, by name (I have 2 CD's and currently working on number #3), that they all like. What a great feeling. Oh yes, and the management stated that they most definately want me back again. The only thing missing tonight was the fact that my wife couldn't be there due to not feeling well!

Soooooooooooooo, anyway, I'm coming down from an adrenaline high from a fantastic show, performance, sitting here at my desk in a quiet dark living room, got a candle burning next to me (dontcha just love Yankee Candles..) sipping ice cold club soda and I just wanted to say. . .

    Thank you!

PS No I'm not drunk. I'm not on that rung yet. It's Re-induction silly!

what a wonderful meloncholy moment there Scooter...I know it's a great feeling when the performance jives and everything clicks and you are in your groove and ahhhhhh, that's a great feeling. I had a huge performance last night too...Mine was good, very very high energy, but more of a relief than anything else...As I sat down here at the computer I said to myself, "I am so tired, and how nice to be able to do what you do best and have others enjoy it too"...then I read your post...nice sync there! I know that abundant feeling, that sense of goodness and gratefulness, it's a very abundant feeling!

Scooter that's awesome! It's a great compliment to know that they appreciate the musician as well as the music! Heck, I wish I could have been there...I love live music. There's something about seeing a performer and hearing one live that a recording cannot capture...the energy, the emotion.

Congrats on a fabulous night! And kudos for staying away from the German chow.

Scooter, as a fellow musician--I UNDERSTAND! What an awesome night you had! Doesn't it suck when you're trying to sing your songs and people are just talking over it? When coworkers show up--WOW. Those brats never like to show up to gigs! lol!! What an accomplishment to get them to walk in the door.

I hate doing cover songs, it just feels like glorified karaoke to me. So I really feel you on loving that they asked for the originals!

Something I have had a hard time accepting is not being able to eat my small little bag of potato chips before a gig. The salt numbs any vocal stress, the grease lubes it all up so that you can glide around notes easier, and the texture scratches your throat on the way down. Now I have cashews. But I hardly ever perform out anymore, so II don't have to worry about that anymore. haha! I'll be back again someday though! Glad you had a great night!

Re: Here it is almost Midnight....

Thanks guys, you're all great. It's funny you mention that Felicia, last night during a particular quiet-ish song, I flashed back to a moment years ago when my buddy and I were doing the same song in a coffee house, it's all quiet, picture this....lighting is pretty cool, harmonies very (Indigo Girlish) smooth...lalala oh oh oh hmmmmmmmm

Then BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, the Barista starts beating the **** out of a tapper on the counter of the Espresso machine!! It sounded like he was using a sledge hammer. We finished the song, somehow, and he looked over at us saying 'WHAT??!?'. Those were the days. Coffee house are not what you would think sometimes, everybodies all carbed up, caffiene intake on the double, triple, talk, Talk, TAlk TALk, TALK...decibels rising....ah the good ole days.

Jess, I know you said you play for children, what types of arrangements do you do, is it your own material, do you mix covers. I just love to play my guitar and sing. No matter if I am or feeling down, my guitar has been with me though all my life's event's it seems. Music is the center of my little universe I suppose. I write from personal experience, so when I sing a certain song, I'm transported back to that particular little event, or person. It's a pretty cool process, don't you think?

Julie, yes, live music is the best isn't it! I agree with you, I'd rather sit and listen to someone play then piped in music. Music is such a great thing to share with all ages.

Thank you Joy! You know what, this may sound odd, but the way I see what I'm doing now, re-induction, and trying to figure out how I went astray, with every post, and every thread here, you picture these people you've talked to here, and the thought process is, do I really want to eat that? What would Heidi, or Joy, or Elizellen say about that.....am I right? I mean, I know WE are responsible for our actions, however, that little devil on your shoulder sometimes can be a royal pain in the behind, so I've learned, you just gotta listen to the angels!

            Have a great day!

Re: Here it is almost Midnight....

LOL....what a moment! Barista's and bartenders can sometimes work against you. And the thing is that I always tipped them at the end of the night when our band got off, you'd think they's STFU.

Picture this....a nice little band doing their original, somewhat jammy song. The lead singer taking a moment to introduce each band member to the audience, the audience clapping nicely, towards the wind down part at the end of the show...after she introduces the drummer, she introduces herself:
              "and I'm Felicia---"
"SWEET T-TS!!!!" from the drunk heckler in the back of the audience yells.
"(me deflated and embarrassed) Uhhh... F-F-elicia and it was nice being with you all tonight...uhhh..thanks.."
From then on, guess what my nickname with the guys in the band was? Yep.

              LOL thanks for the memories!

Re: Here it is almost Midnight....

Sorry to bump this up, but I wanted to say....

This place I played at last week, just contacted my booking agent, they want me all summer, 1 a month, but June July August.....these gigs will all be outside in their German Beirgarten.....I am so excited!!!!

I know, it's only 3 gigs, but this is a 5 star rating for places to see live music here in Indianapolis! http://www.rathskeller.com/

This is pretty cool. I also have been asked to open for somebody (that's exactly how she put it) at the Verizon Wireless Center this summer.... in Indy thats where all the big concert tours come.

My buddy and I did this in Pennsylvania back in 1991 or 92 when we got to open for The Indigo Girls, folk rock duo.....I absolutely adore their music. Got to sit around back stage with them both, talking about song writing, and such....so....I'm hoping it'll be somebody really cool. I would pretty much die if they said it was Dave Matthews or Jimmy Buffett. I get a half hour set, 5 - 6 original tunes. When we opened for the Indigo's there was like 10,000 people there. That.....................was awesome. Scary, and awesome at the same time. I was pretty unbearable to live with leading up to it, nerves, and my wife (Karen) says I was pretty unbearable and bubbly to live with for several weeks following it.....lol.

Well Jess, there's that adrenaline pumping again......yikes I need to join Julie on that 5K today....

Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yes, and I'm over the squash thing. You're forgiven Julie haha!
