Those of you that have been around a while might remember me, but for those that haven't I wanted to let you know about my story.
I first started Atkins in July of 2003. I was successful until November when I pretty much had to stop eating healthy because of money issues. Let's face it.. oodles of noodles and pb&j are cheaper than 'real' foods, especially when you're trying to feed a family of four. At that time, I didn't have much to lose. I went from 145 to 130 and my BG was normal without insulin. (I'm a type 2 diabetic.) I still had some toning up to do, but I was exercising regularly for the first time in years, thanks to the Atkins plan, so I knew I'd get to where I wanted to be.
After I quit, I ended up gaining back the weight I had lost plus some. At one point I was up to 167. I tried getting back on the LC wagon several times since then and never made it far, usually because of money, but sometimes due to carby temptation. I was lucky that my husband and daughters were supportive because that helped me a lot! They even loved many of the foods I fixed. Along with their encouragement, I really credit online support to my success and motivation. I am a member of a few bulletin boards and visit several LC sites. They keep me going and give me ideas and recipes to try. Journaling keeps me going too. I might copy this post and start a thread in that forum.
I started low carbing again last Friday. I really want to get the extra weight off (I'm 155 now) and get my BG under control. I also have another motivation this time. My 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last October. We have a very rare subtype of type 2 that is called MODY (maturity onset diabetes of the young.) I want to set a good example for her and teach her how to eat properly now so that she will not end up with complications later in life.
I'm feeling good. No loss yet, but TOM is here so I'm not too worried about it. I've been eating well and drinking around a gallon of water a day. I walked 2 miles yesterday, but that's the only exercise so far. I need to get going on that. My BG is within normal range without insulin and man does that feel good!!
Anyway.. that's me and I'm glad to be back (for the umpteenth and hopefully last time!)
