  • After one week on induction...........

I am down 7 lbs and have lost 1 inch in my waist. I didn't get to measure like I should have because we had somewhere to be early, but I made sure to measure my waist After a c-section, 2 other abdomen surgeries and a hysterectomy - my stomach is a MAJOR problem to me.

This time around hasn't been as hard as I thought it would - I have been around MANY (including my family) that are eating tons of carbs and stuff I would have killed for before but it didn't phase me.

I am exercising very little because of my hurt back (fell in November on slick concrete, have had 2 epidurals that didn't help and not sure what we are doing next but I know it WON'T be surgery).

If anyone has any suggestions for exercise, I would love to hear them. I do have stairs at my house and naturally have to use them but as far as walking far or for any extended period of time, my back just can't do that right now. I have an ab-lounger but that of course kills my back too, however, I did use it a few days this past week.

Have a GREAT weekend -- keep on keeping on !!

Hi there! Good for you for getting started again! Getting off some weight can only certainly be good for your back I bet!

Keep it up! I too am on my second time around and into my second week starting my third soon. It's not easy starting again but you got over the major hump of it first (the starting first 3 days is the hardest for me )

Well gotta go! Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

Heya !! My first week was really hard, big time carb/sugar withdrawl. Proud of you for your resistance when others around you are carbing. *a new word I just made up* hehe

Re: After one week on induction...........

Welcome! You're off to a fantastic start. Sorry about your back. The countless epidurals I had for my back never helped me, so I quit having them, but they do help some people. I've had 4 back surgeries. I will say, do only what you are supposed to do. What is good for one person is not what is good for another. With that said, and with how my back is, I walk slow and straight and on my treadmill, or very flat ground. I do what I can, when I can. Even when I used a walker, they wanted me up and walking right away, no matter how much or little I could do. But please do what your doctor says, and how you feel is most important. I don't use a walker now (I have in the past), but I'll grab a shopping cart, and cruise around longer in stores than if I did not have it. I've recently found our new Home Depot is a great big place I can cruise around in for a longer time, and I don't have to buy anything. It's going to cost me though if I ever put the remodeling ideas to use in our home. LOL

I had a lot of excellent physical therapy from qualified Physical Therapists only, since there are many places that have opened up, who use employees who are not properly trained or qualified. I learned a lot there as to what I needed to do and not to do. I started with pool therapy...leg exercises along the inside of the pool and walking in the pool that were supervised by physical therapist. No swimming at that time, just the exercises. I also have one to three pound weights I lift while lying down, one type, they are above my head, while I keep my arms straight, I do sets. This is to keep upper body strenght and help maintain a healthy heart. I did these even when I could not sit or walk. That's all I am to lift due to my neck and back problems. Again, it's very individual depending on your injury, what is best for you, and make sure you don't over do it with your injury, while finding the balance of what you need to do. Go slow till you know. (just my opinion )

I don't know much about back injuries, so I can't comment on what to do for exercise. Just wanted to say welcome to STAC, though!

Re: After one week on induction...........

Thanks so much for all the replies, support and good advice.

Barbie - thanks for your post. I know that I can only do what I can do and therefore try not to push it. This is a worker's comp case and waiting to see what is done next is VERY frustrating. I know that even though I am impatient and want to exercise that my back just won't let me. If they ever suggest surgery I don't think I will do it. I am too afraid of someone operating on my back. I hope that this pain will fade in time but after 4+ months, physical therapy and 2 epidurals it sure seems like it wants to hang around.

Thanks again for all your support - this is a AWESOME board because of the AMAZING people here !!!

                Have a blessed new week,
                Angie

Hi BrighterDaysAhead: I wanted to reply to your back injury comments. Have you had an MRI or CAT Scan to confirm a diagnosis? Just wondering because I am 18 months post injury (herniated disc) and am finally feeling very close to normal. If you have a disc injury, you have a long road ahead in terms of healing and what you need is a lot of patience. I can give you some help if it is a disc....let me know; I would love to help.
