  • Trying again, but fearful

I've been away for quite some time. I lost a significant amount of weight doing Atkins and then hit a wall. I switched to Weight Watchers and reached goal. A week before Thanksgiving I went on a cruise. In 5 days I gained 10 pounds. Then the Holidays came and my weight continued to go up and down but I was never able to get back to goal. I had frequent bouts of binging and old behaviors kept creeping back. I was however exercising daily which kept my weight gain from skyrocketing. Everyday I promised myself I'd get back on track and made it till dinner. Late night binges got the best of me. I finally realized my addiction to sugar and carbs was taking over, I was totally out of control. On Febuary 9th I was teaching a Zumba class and broke my foot. I haven't exercised at all since then. I'm still in a cast. Ishould be doing upper body exercises but I've lost my motivation. I've also gained between 12-15 pounds since my accident. So..... in the past 4 months I've gained 20 pounds.
I decided that since my problem was mostly with sugar and carbs that the best thing for me was to go back to Atkins. I started yesterday. The first time I did induction I lost 12 pounds in 14 days. I got on the scale yesterday and was 142.5. This morning I was 143. Last time I started initially I was losing a pound a day. I gained a half a pound the first day and already I'm discouraged. The 20 pounds I have to lose now seem as overwhelming as the 150 pounds I had to lose years ago when I first started this journey. I would like to do a "clean" induction, but I don't want to give up my coffee. I'm going to give it another day or two. If I don't start losing I will give up the caffeine and see what happens. Anyway...... wish me luck, and if there is anyone around from the "good old days" when I was a regular here. "Hi".

Best of luck to you! My advice is to not obsess on the scale (I have the same problem and am working hard to overcome it) and focus on measurements. I find if I weigh every day I can easily get discouraged, so only do it once a week. Once I get on a roll, I don't feel the need, which is a GOOD thing.

You can do it! This forum is REALLY helpful, so keep postin' and we'll all keep encouraging each other.

Hi Amy, Scooter here. You know, I kind of did what you did. Had to restart induction after a 6 week Carb infested binge that started with 1 cookie. (what a moron.)

Anyway.....agreed, do not obsess with the scale, you'll find induction harder this time around, or at least I did, it was harder to focus. But it is only 2 weeks, I've been on rung 1 of OWL for the last few weeks, I lost the 14 pounds I'd put on, plus 2, so it will start happening, it's just going to be sloooooow for awhile. Put that scale away, and don't weigh until 1 week out or even better yet, 2 weeks out. I know that is easier said than done, but you will see better results instead of constantly weighing day and night and stressing yourself over a pound or two...

Make sure you're drinking lots of water too!!! Remember that at least 100oz a day!!

Best of luck, don't forget to sign in to roll call each day!!! It's a great way to think about the day before it gets on top of you!!!

Hi Amy, I remember you from when I was on Atkins a few years ago. You know, for the life of me, I can't remember WHAT my screen name was...

Anyway, I am happy to see you back. I had lost 32 my first time on Atkins.. yeah, thats all back PLUS. I started my own diet LAST January and I did lose 22 lbs but gained 10 of that back. SOO basically, I started Atkins this time, the exact same weight I started it on last time. So far, I'm down 6 pounds.

I'm sorry to hear about your foot. I hope things improve for you.
Are you still in Orlando? I live in the 4 corners area of Polk County. not too far from you I guess.

Amy, your name sounds familiar. Welcome back! I've fallen off several times, but I keep coming back. I now have more to lose than I did the first time in '03, but I know this works and it makes me feel better so I'm determined to make it stick! We'll get back on track together!
