  • What's your exercise? Past, Present, Future

I haven't read all the old posts, so I hope this isn't a repeat question. I thought maybe we could give eachother some new ideas for exercise. So what do you do now for exercise and what activities have you done in your past? Is there something that you used to do that you'd like to try again? Or something new that you'd like to try? Let's make a list of ideas!

Me, I'm not too into exercise just to exercise. I want to do something fun!

    1. Right now the only thing I'm doing is starting to ride my bike again.
    2. A few months ago I took a belly dancing class (yes, even with this old, fat belly!) and it was so much fun that I'm going to sign up again.
    3. I still have Rollerblades and I'd like to do that again.
    4. I once took a rowing class on a nearby river and that was a lot of fun too.
    5. In h.s. and college I rode horses.
    6. Racquetball with my dh used to be fun...unless he started to feel competetive!
    7. I've done exercise machines, but I can't get very excited about them.
    8. I'm not disciplined enough to do exercise videos, but I saw one by a rapper on t.v. that looked like fun. I wonder if it's worth the $60.00? Anyone try it?

    Let's see....

    - Mountain biking - lots of fun but very dangerous for this coordination-challenge gal (about 7 years ago)

    - Tai chi - very relaxing (been several years)

    - I use to use a pedometer a couple years ago and try to get in 10,000 steps a day. That was pretty easy and did help

    - At one point I did weight lifting sporadiclly and loved it for the fast results.

    - I just joined a gym so now I am using weight machines and then the treadmill for my cardio. I hope to graduate to the free weights when all my 'injuries' from pregnancy are healed. And I really want to get into yoga as well, have been doing a video for that.

Re: What's your exercise? Past, Present, Future

This is what I've done for exercise during my life:

~Taken dance classes, for most of my childhood and teen years. I danced for 12 years total, and also took some dance classes in college. I studied ballet, jazz, tap, and clogging.

~I was a member of the Track and Field team in HS...even though I was a thrower, I still had to run my but off!

~Been a regular member of Pilates, Yoga, Toning, Step, Boot Camp and Kickboxing classes.

~Gone hiking and camping in the mountains and the woods--I love being in nature!

~I started doing strength training in November, and I LOVE the results I'm getting from it!

~I love going for long walks (4+ miles) around town with my boyfriend. I live in an area with lots of hills, so it's always a good gentle workout.

~I've gotten back into running! I used to run quite a bit in college, and I started back up in January.

~I've been a member of a gym for most of my adult life, and I love it. At home it's hard for me to work out because I'm programmed to relax. A gym is a great environment for me to get my heart pumping!

~As for the future, I'm going to focus on running and strength training while still attending boot camp and kickboxing. Running is the most convenient and versatile exercise, and someday I'd like to become a distance runner!
