  • Just is it possible?

I am sure its been asked a million times, but it seems for the longest time I have been on again, off again, on again, off again. I'll go for a week or two, but then I'll fall off and stuff my self with the most horrible things that you have seen in your life lol. And I am just not sure if my body is even able to lose weight anymore lol

I don't know, I am mentally disabled right now. I am almost at the point of giving up, just accept my fate, eat crappy and pick up my cigs again after 5 years.

    ANy inspiring words?

    Vasili...

I'm sorry you're having trouble right now...but from one smoker to an ex smoker, DON'T DO IT! I wish I could proudly boast that I'd been quit for five years now...that's an amazing accomplishment!

Of course you're still able to lose weight! You can do this...read through some of the more inspirational threads...Jimmie just posted a good one asking "what's your excuse" for sticking to Atkins...I enjoyed everyones responses whole heartedly and I know you will too.

By the way...glad to still see your slinky, escalator siggy! That made me crack a huge smile LOL.

      DON'T DO IT!

I've seen the words "A year from now you'll wish you'd started today!" and for a while, didn't really think much of them. Until someone put it into perspective. Even if you just lose an average of a pound a week, a year from now you'll have lost over 50 pounds! And that year is going to pass anyway, so why not do something positive?

It takes a big commitment to start something like this. ADBB is a great way to keep you motivated, inspired and on track. I really owe my successes to this board. Whenever I'm grumpy or having cravings or upset, instead of eating, I come here and read post after post and realize "Hey, I can DO this!"

There's no shame in having cravings or having difficulties. Sugar is a drug. It's a hard addiction to break. When you're tempted, talk about it, rant about it, but DON'T give in to it! I think you should give it another try. Make sure you have the book (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition) and read it before you start. It has SOOOOOOOO much information in it, explains the different phases of the plan, and explains the science of why and how the plan works.

I think you can do it if you want to! Keep us posted!

        Re: Just is it possible?

        Hi Vasili,

You're in the right place. I'm pretty sure everyone in STAC will know how you feel. I definately do, I've been on and off so many times since I started this. I've had 4 or 5 bad periods of eating the worst food imaginable (for arounda week or 2 each time) and drinking and have stopped exercising a couple of times too.

Last time this happened I wrote a pros and cons list for doing Atkins, no need to guess which list was longer. I had so much more to gain. Not only that, I was regaining fast, feeling rubbish, out of control and this affected all areas of my life.

This diet works and lots of people find it gives them more than just weight loss. However, I think it is fine to wait and plan a restart so you can do it right. For example, if you decide to start again, re-read DANDR, get in the right foods, prime your friends and family, plan some treats for mini-goals, get some new exercise clothes, anything to get you in the right frame of mind. And, of course, get on here and read! Always inspiring to see other's success.

I've just set myself a goal of 169 cheat free days, I'm happy to have company but if you don't fancy that there are loads of other things on here to keep you on track.

Think about what you want, imagine yourself in a year from now if you do and if you don't stick to this WOL.

Also, as Julirama said to me when I was wavering, perhaps this is not the plan for you if you're not enjoying it. I found this very reassuring, as it made me realise this is by far the most enjoyable diet I've ever tried and it works for me.

And as Jimme48 said (I don't want to plagarise here!) consider what is triggering you when you go off plan. Is it social occasions? Not eating enough? Emotional eating? Think about it and if you decide to re-start come up with some ways to deal with such situations differently.

Best of luck - and definately DON'T start smoking again! I'm not a smoker but imagine wasting all that hard work!

Let us know how you get on and sorry this post is so gigantic!

          Vasili,

Don't give in, don't give up! We've all struggled with the same thing from time to time; otherwise, we wouldn't be here! Remember that every time you get down. Come back to the forum and draw strength from it. I certainly do.

Thank you all for your support. I really have no excuse. I have been playing this game for a while. I know all the ends and outs of atkins, I've even advised my brother who has lost 50lbs, and me last year, I even lost the same amount.

I am emotional eater I guess. I get depressed I feed and refeed that demon. I want to exercise so bad, its just I work 12-14 hour days mon through sat. I know I shouldn't have an excuse but I work construction so my body is toasted by the end of the day. I am going to have to figure something out.

btw, Today I am detoxing plenty of water and right foods to get the week started off right. My wife, God love her, makes my foods for me so it should be alot easier!

Also, I am glas my pic made you laugh, makes one ponder doesn't it?

Thank you all again for the support.

Good job on the water detox.

Lots of us are emotional eaters. I am. I'm also a bored eater. So I'm beating the crap out of two demons. But this is the first time in my life I've figured out what hunger is...and I haven't mistaken boredom, anger, sadness, or anything else for it. This is a super-supportive place and the members are genuine and honest. I learned SOOOOOOOOOO much when I joined, and I had lots of members give me great advice that really helped to pull me through.

Vasili, do you strength train? That would really help you become stronger and more energized, and it would really help you out at work! I know your days are long, but lifting weights would be GREAT exercise, and a routine usually only takes about 30-40 minutes.

                Re: Just is it possible?

Strength training? hehe I live for it. I am built like an ox, nice genetics. I don't do normal strength training , mine is a little different. When I do get time to train, I lift heavy and train like a beast. Deadlifts, Mil presses, weighted pushups, and hill training. Heavy objects up a hill can do wonders for the body.

My mind is my weak point, the breaking point. I have to get mentally stronger, thats my goal, is just so darn difficult.

The road is a tough one I'll tell you that.

I've read DANDR over and over and over. I know the rules, I know the regs, I know what needs to be done, now I just need to do it.

                ok I am done wining

Man, I'm in the same boat. I just re-started....again....I can't even get past induction! This is my 3rd day...again. ... This time I am running/walking at night. I think if I start seeing some results faster it will motivate me to stay on the path!

                    Re: Just is it possible?

Hello my fellow members...Wow just read your words of frustration. I have been on Atkins since December. The best thing to do is prepping ahead as far as where you meals are concerned....

                    1.

Make your meals in the evening for the next day so that you know you are boosting yourself to make this regimen work..

                    2.

Next, make a calendar of your goal for the month.
Setup up a exercise routine that will work with your schedule.
4-5 times per week and 30 mins of cardio is essential for weight loss...I do about 300 crunches per day in front of the TV...

BE PRACTICAL...I was asking for fast weight loss. Really...2-4lbs per week is decent.

                    3.

Finally...Try to slowly incorporate fiber in your diet...flax meal is my regimen..and also drink about at least four of those water bottles that everyone carries around.Try not to eat after 6PM and if you do make it light and exercise about an hour after if you can...Your body slows down at night

                    4.

Smoking is an EASY WAY to give in to our stress...Take a walk outside..or even take in deep breaths and you can push out that bad energy...Trust me I have been there..Stress can be defeated through finding more satble, healthy alternatives.

GOOD LUCK...My weight loss has been successful because I NEED to be healthy ...not WANT to be healthy...Seriously think to yourself how good youare being to yourself by committing to exercise and better eating...

                      Hey Man,
You will never be happy until you HAVE YOU UNDER CONTROL...Eating right, exercising right, smoke-free, and detoxed...None of us will be happy until our bodies are free and under control...Active and healthy and under control releases the giant within you. Once you have routines and habits firmly established and you are doing them, you can maintain them. You and I both know it energizes and gives confidence...It makes you happy and then you bring that happiness to your wife, your job and your friendships. What you put inside has everything to do with "whole" you give away of yourself.

SO, get it together for yourself. Slowly today, get control of your life so you can live it now. My mother is dying right before my eyes, and as she looks back at her life, she has such regret. I don't want regret...I have spent 8 months making a life I can admire and respect...
DO IT, you are craving it!
