  • MTAC - Weight loss still possible

I just posted my husband's and my induction weight loss in the 14 day induction forum (me 17lbs and him 15lbs).

I wanted to post here as well to reach my fellow STACers who may be worried that Atkins will not work for you because you have done the program a million times before. Maybe nobody is worried about this, but I know that I've tried to restart a lot of times since the fall and each time I talked myself out of it by thinking I screwed up my metabolism, or that you can't lose as much weight as the first time you did induction.

Everyone has a different metabolism and body, don't get depressed if you DON'T have a huge induction loss, but realize that it is POSSIBLE, stick to the rules, and see what happens.

PS - Don't take this as preaching, it's my attempt at motivation.

SoFarSoGood, I am so happy to hear your great success. I am also having a great induction!!! Day 8 and I've lost 7.5 lbs, do you mind if i ask if you have noticed in difference in your measurements or if you didn't take measurement do you notice a difference in how you clothes fit?

      Hi Mendo

I don't take measurements because the only tape measure I have right now is a carpenter's one and it does not work very well.

I definately have noticed a huge difference in how my clothes fit and so has my husband. I have jeans from size 4 to size 14 in my closet. The only problem is that it's hard to go by what size they are because they all fit differently. Two weeks ago, I was wearing some of my size 13 and size 11 and now I can wear my size 8 and 10. Just to show how different brands fit different, the other day my sister gave me a pair of size 4 courdroy (sp?) pants that fit too. I hate the sizing on pants, they make no sense!

Also, my husband is wearing the pants he couldn't even do up two weeks ago.

Re: MTAC - Weight loss still possible

Hi- just to put in my observations, having done Atkins induction multiple times in the past years ago, plus 1 year ago after having gained about 55 lb in 6 mos., and now, while technically in OWL having been on Atkins for 1 year. Your belt won't lie. Notice when you need to use a different hole to fasten it, and when you need a new hole or a new belt! Measurements/ clothing are good measurers of progress.

A lot can be false influences to the induction loss pounds according to the scales. For instance, from one induction compared to another, you could for one and not the other have:
Before your initial weigh on the scales, had water retention, from TOM, salt, or other reasons
Before your initial weigh on the scales, had extra weight in your gut from pigging out just prior to starting "Day 1"
Before your initial weigh on the scales, had gained significantly since last being on a diet
Before your initial weigh on the scales, had been slowly losing or maintaining and were still dieting (as I'm now doing)
After your 2-wk weigh-in, had water retention, from TOM, salt, or other reasons

These could give either a falsely high start or finish weight. And then, of course, if you've been yo-yo dieting with on/off overly restrictive diet, there's the metabolic resistance which if you had identical scenarios at the beginning and end of would mean you lose less the second & subsequent times, up to a diminishing variance point of 0. (Your metabolism can only slow so much.) Just my opinion.

          Hi Boonie

Great info! Too bad I don't wear belts either, that would be an easy way to measure.

I have had a bit of experience with Atkins as well, and I know that water retention can do some funny things with a scale, but it's never made more than a couple of pounds of difference for me.

I think that if I were to start having a problem with metabolic resistance, I would do the Fat Fast that Dr. A wrote about.

I really admire people who can stick to this WOE without losing weight and without being at goal - but I'm not one of them. I want to lose weight and I need to keep losing to stay motivated.

Great message.... You really encouraged me to stick with induction and believe THIS WILL WORK for me. I too have clothes in my closet from size 4 to 14. I got rid of the 14-24's once I reached goal the last time around. I absolutely refuse to buy clothes in a larger size if I have to wear the same thing everyday. I WILL GET BACK INTO THOSE 4's I could wear before I went on my cruise the week before Thanksgiving.
I was at goal till I went on the cruise.... then came the holiday parties, then I broke my foot and my exercise routine came to a full stop. In 4 months I gained almost 19 pounds. I'm back to this WOE now and plan on staying.
