  • First week, second time around results

Ok... I've been doing this for a week. Yesterday I was down a few pounds when I weighed myself, and today I'm up a pound and a half from yesterday. I'm sticking to induction foods, but I'm sure I'm just eating too much. I'm eating the same quantities now that I ate when I weighed more then 100 pounds more and first started doing Atkins several years ago. I think because I had been depriving myself of all the full fat cheeses and salad dressings, meat, butter, bacon and sausage, etc. that I can eat now I'm just going overboard. I probably need to cut my portions in half and cut out the pork rinds completely. I never ate those while eating low fat, low cal. I'm still not willing to give up coffee. I didn't do it the first time and it didn't make a difference. I'm drinking enough water to float a battle ship, so I'm sure what I need now is portion control. Hopefully I'll be out of my cast in another week and I'll be able to start my exercise program again.
This weeks goal for me is to work on portion control. I weigh almost half of what I weighed the first time around.... I need to lower my overall calories I'm sure by half. My body gives me no satiety signals and I keep eating because everything tastes so good. I have to be the food cop and just make my portions smaller. Any other ideas?

Okay first thing, I see no reference at all to the 3 cups of veggies? And it appears that you're eating because it tastes good? That's a big no-no.

Have you been using www.fitday.com to count your daily intake of everything? If portion control is your problem, you need to prep and only cook what you're going to eat that meal. As for the pork rinds, they're full of salt, big time, if you're eating BBQ, they're full of sugar, even if they say 0 carbs, trust me, they're full of sugar.

You must eat 3 cups of veggies everyday faithfully, loyally. No if ands or buts, non-negotiable.

Try to plan your day better, know exactly that for breakfast your are having for example, a 2 egg omelet with 1/2 cup mushrooms, 2 slices of bacon, 24 ounces of water. Don't cook more eggs, don't cook more bacon. Moderation is just that, moderation. Focus on moderation and drink more water and realize, it's only been 1 week, come on!!!!

YOU CAN DO THIS, YOU WANT TO DO THIS!!!!

I have to agree...did you sit down and refrresh yourself with the DANDR 2002 edition?
It outlines exactly the balance of foods that you need. I would venture to say that you need to get back to the basics of Induction and make sure you are getting a complete balance of what the plan calls for.

As for Pork Rinds...aren't they pretty high in sodium? That could cause a retention of water too. I found the 1st time around that if I ate a lot of those that I would stall in WL.

Hi Scooter... I'm absolutely eating the 3 cups of veggies everyday without fail. What I'm doing snacking between lunch and dinner with ham slices, pepperoni and cheese or egg or tuna salad with pork rinds.
        Here's what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast: 2 egg omlette cooked in butter with 1 ounce of cheese, 3 small sausage patties. Coffee with one ounce of heavy whipping cream and an ounce of DaVinci syrup.

Lunch: Chef salad made with 2 1/2 cups of romaine, slice of red onion, grape tomatoes (approx 1/2 cup), 3T Ranch Dressing, Ham, turkey, hard boiled egg, colby jack cheese, bacon crumbles

Snack: approx. 2 oz pepperoni, 1 oz provolone, 1 oz ham, 3 oz pork rinds

Dinner: 2 8 oz broiled burgers with 1 oz cheddar cheese

Snack: 1 cup SF jello with 1 oz of heavy whipping cream.

12 cups of water throughout the day.

I often see a small gain on some days but it usually gone and then some by the next day, normal flucation I think due to water retention, TOM or other factors. Don't panic to early.

Okay, not too bad. However, the pepperoni I'm sure has corn syrup solids, and or sugar, Most national brands do, I've yet to find a pepperoni that is sugar free, and the SF Jello, Aspartame, very bad....causes stalls in some people. The pork rinds, that's a lot of salt, could be retaining water. Have you checked the ingredients on the sausage, same as pepperoni, sugar or corn syrup solids, if I have sausage, I make my own, so I know exactly what's going in it. How about your ranch dressing? The problem is that I see ALOT of processed foods. If you remember DANDR those types of foods are to be kept to a minimum if not at all. It appears that 50% of your intake is processed foods!

It's an eye opener Amy, you have to read those labels, and even then, you have to make the choice of whether or not you should be eating that processed item.

Honestly, I'm trying to help you!!

Congratulations on getting into the swing of induction and eating to plan for the last week

And congratulations on realising that you are probably overeating your legal foods now you are much smaller than you were the first time around
Many of us have problems adjusting to being smaller than we once were (anyone else still wearing their fat goggles? - i know I am at times LOL).
Maybe if you only put half of what you have been eating on the plate for your meal or snack and eat that slowly then make yourself wait for 20 minutes or so before deciding if you need to eat the other half?
Perhaps have a drink of water while you let your body decide?

Making yourself have to go and get the second helping out of the fridge might help you recognise if you are still hungry or not.

One of the beauties of Atkins is that if you are hungry you are 'allowed' to eat, which I find sometimes takes the urgency away and allows me to choose whether I need that second helping.
Sometimes I do, so I might eat half of the second half, sometimes I dont, so I leave that in the fridge till i am hungry again.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
