Lesson was : always pack my lunch with snacks and a nice big salad

Did not pack yesterday, thought I could grab a salad out, there was not a place to do that where I was.....so got a couple of Burger king jr burgers because I hit that deep dark starving place. WoW did I have an energy surge yep probably laced with sugar, and I gained a pound on the ol scale this morning. I worked a long time to get that Lb off was at this weight for a long long plateau, now its back. Am very not happy with me and that choice. at least I know what caused it and can fix it. Had HUGE carb cravings the rest of the day. Today I will be a good little turtle and pack.

    Re: lesson re-learned

Good job! Yeah BK burgers have given me the same reaction....seem to crave food shortly thereafter, they say no sugar but I don't buy it.

Wife made regular chili last night, thouht I could do just a cup or so, mostly meat (no kidney beans or pasta). The tomato juice had no added salt or sugar...but same thing....hit me like a rock.....

Bad bad cravings the rest of night, I usually kill those with water, but ate a couple oz of cheese, still rough....

Julie warned about juices the other day, so compact, I can do a tomato with no problems....but the juice from probably 2 - 3 tomatos = problem.

You are 100% correct, but don't be angry with yourself, you did good with what you had, it's better than starving and breaking down for a quick snack out of a machine or worse...

good for you Speedyturtle... (I love that name....it makes you think.....lol)

Doing much better today, have a nice one!

The thing that is important is that you learned your lesson. If you are ever in that position again..(and I hope not) but if...then throw away the bun at least and eat the burger bunless. Thanks for giving us a heads-up today on the importance of planning. Don't beat yourself up, live, learn and improve your plan.

            Scooter,

Maybe it's not sugar per se. Maybe it's high fructose corn syrup. It's quite common in commercial bread products and there is research that shows that unlike glucose it inhibits leptin, the enzyme that tells the brain you're not hungry and delays the suppression of ghrelin, the enzyme that causes appetite.

Take a scan of labels of bread products at the supermarket and see how many you can find that DON'T list high fructose corn syrup.

This has a nice collection of citations on the subject:

2 burger king jr. burgers do not weigh a pound, but there potentially could be something in them that caused you to maybe hold on to some fluid...or maybe it's one of those fluctuations...if you climb on the scale alot, you know, we go up and down alot, fluctuations, some can watch them, and others go crazy watching them! (me)

I agree with Dream, you got the bigger lesson, DON'T LEAVE HOME UNPREPARED!
I read a wonderful post a while back during a boot camp and the gal said she had a few simple rules, and one rule was never to leave her home without a snack or little cooler with foods, no matter where she was going! I adopted that same rule, and have lived out of my little cooler ever since... Just finished 20 days in the hospital with my Mother, and I lived out of that little cooler and climbed stairs for exercise.
The lessons we learn this time around are priceless to those of us sooooo committed to re-creating a quality of life we see others living...Embrace this one!

haha nope a couple of small patties don't weigh a pound probably getting on the scale too much and freeking out. I am VERY good at that. probably eating too many (legal) carbs after that, it really triggered cravings. I need to drink a ton of water and behave.
Got my little cooler now and will not put myself in that situation again. Thanks for the input.
