  • Temptation everywhere

Oh boy. It's amazing how when you start this WOE you look at things in a whole new way. I am ending my job in the middle of May, and I am on very poor terms with my supervisor. Every time I see him or hear him, I'm ridiculously frustrated. To resolve this, I used to go into the kitchen to grab some leftover food. (We have a full-service dinner every Friday, and there is ALWAYS something yummy to eat.)

Anyway, yesterday I went in to get some ice from the machine and water from the tap, and I saw the most delightful red velvet and angel food cakes just waiting to be picked at. And I know they were good because I had them on Friday just before I committed to Induction! Anyway I said to myself, "Val, those are totally not worth it. [Boss's name] is not going to keep you from your goal! Get your water and ice and get out of here!" And I did! I was so proud of myself that today I "rewarded" myself...

...with a "Club Lulu" Un-Wich from Jimmy John's! For those of you who don't know, Jimmy John's is a sub shop similar to Subway, but they have a great option of putting your whole sandwich on lettuce leaves instead of the bun! So I had a delightful Induction-friendly turkey, bacon, mayo, and veggie sandwich with only 5 countable carbs! Even more astonishing, I couldn't finish it. The last quarter is in the fridge for me to have for snack later.

Okay, back to my water - have only had 24 oz. today and it's already 2 PM! Yay for me!

    Re: Temptation everywhere

Congratulations! You are on your way to reaching your goal. Unfortunately when we change our WOE, we can't change others around us. The good thing is that we are capable of changing the way we react to those challenges. I credit the ADBB with helping to change my attitude about myself and the actions that I take. Taking responsibility and not feeling deprived is the biggest step we can take.

Maybe till you end that job, you can take some acceptable snacks to work so that when you are face temptations next time, you can reward yourself with something that you know is better for you than the office snacks. Great post, thanks for sharing!

I'll second that...Great post! I want a Jimmy John's! What a low carb way to "treat" yourself.

We have a "Back Yard Burger" here that makes the most delicious hamburgers. I also used to order up their cobblers which are awesome...but no more. They offer a low-carb burger wrapped in lettuce leaves filled with mayo, onions, cheese, etc. I use it as a crutch when I'm out, can't get home, and have no alternative. They also make a Veggie Burger, but never have tried... sounds and looks not so good.

Jimmy John's sounds amazing.... Using lettuce leaves for a sandwich is a great idea! How great do you feel right now, not giving into temptation! When we stop seeing sugar as temptation, and just as something we don't want in our bodies, then I reckon we'll know we've succeeded!

My son still has a whole basket of Easter candy sitting out. In one way, it's good that he's not eating a ton of it. I'm not crazy about looking at it all the time, but I have to admit a week ago I would have taken a piece. Now, I just keep walking. I love ketosis!

Bathing suits! That is a scary thought!

I made a salad at lunch of lettuce, tomatoe and bacon with a little bit of mayo...it was sooo good! I honestly don't miss bread. I miss mashed potatoes, but not bread.
I'd rather wear a bathing suit and feel good in it than eat a pile of mashed potatoes though!!

Miss the mashed potatoes? Just mash up cauliflower and it really is a great substitute for potatoes! They serve it at Ruby Tuesdays with their low-carb platter. Since I tried it there a few years ago, I make it quite often. The secret is to boil the cauliflower and put in a strainer to make sure all the water drips out. I leave mine in frig for a few hours to make sure it is drained good. Then you mash it up and eat just like you would mashed potatoes. Has the same consistancy as the potatoes and is delicious.

Hey there dreamof145...I do eat the fauxtatoes just like you said, but there is something amazing and delicious about potatoes that can't be duplicated! That said, I do agree with you...the fauxtatoes are a wonderful replacement and I'm so glad for that. I can't believe they serve that in a restaurant! Wow...that's awesome. I don't think we have that one in Canada.
Have you thought of joining the Veggie Challenge? It's only for 7 days, but I've been practicing and using FitDay to track it, and it's pretty cool.
                        Have a great day!
