  • Lifestyle, Build it!

Well, I've got a friend here, she and I PM every day...she is into her scales (but doing great at establishing some distance there). I am into my lifestyle... Everywhere I go, I post about building a lifestyle. Matter a fact, here is what I said this morning in that PM:

"Daily interaction with my Atkins lifestyle, never letting it go for a single day... Now it's there for me, when I need the benefits the most from Atkins, I don't have to go hunting through induction to try and get them, they are well established in my life because I made them the goal...AND the weight, THE WEIGHT is taking care of it's self..."

You know I've been in crisis here with my Mother's health since Christmas day. (I BET ALMOST ALL OF US CAN RELATE TO CRISIS, OR CHALLENGING TIMES) If there was ever a season I needed the benefits of Atkins, you know the energy, the lack of cravings, and hunger...the clarity of mind and the stability in my moods, if there was ever a time I needed all those benefits, it's been since Christmas Day til now...and BOY AM I GLAD I HAD A LIFESTYLE IN THE MAKING.

I am so firmly convinced that Atkins is for me, and that I thrive on this was of eating that if I never lost another pound I'd be ok with that. I weigh probably 145ish, for my 5'3 frame. I am wearing a size 10 pants, for the first time ever. But if I never lost another pound I WOULD NOT QUIT...because all the way along Atkins has given me MORE THAN WEIGHT LOSS.

    I have peace with myself
    I have self respect
    I have control
    I have energy
    I have stable moods
    I can think clearly
    I don't over eat
    I enjoy good rich foods
    I enjoy normal portions
    I have no heartburn
    I am not depressed
    I don't have fatigue at 1:30pm
    I am happy
    I am healthy
    I sleep well!
PEOPLE LOOK FOR PILLS TO GIVE THEM THESE THINGS LISTED ABOVE.
I found all of them again, while dieting on Atkins...Now, I am NOT DIETING. I AM LIVING ON ATKINS.

If you are struggling, or if you are very frustrated with the scales, be patient! Give it time. Get control over your impatience, because this way of eating give you so much more....I've not heard people say they feel great on WW, I hear them say that the sugars torture them and they use their points on desserts....they never seem to be full enough...
If it's not happening fast enough for you, PLEASE tell me where it will happen faster, and be healthy too?
Our culture has conditioned us to expect big results immediately, and friends, it's only in the first week of induction where you have the biggest results...and that's because you dump a load of water along with weight...
There are some very very successful people here, they usually loose 1, to 1.5 lb a week...probably around 10lbs a month...slowly month by month they move towards their goals....Little by little it's all coming together for them...It's taking time, but the longer it takes the more of a chance of staying in the lifestyle you create...

I've only been around 9 months. In the scheme of things in the real world that doesn't make me an expert. Success will be if I am here at a yr, and then if I can maintain my weight loss. But in terms of cyber space, "I've been around"...
Those who go one day at a time, keeping their eyes on the routines, establishing control over the water, the daily exercise and the good foods, well those are the ones who last...those who make it all about the scales, they frustrate themselves into tizzies...WE all scream, step away from the scale!!!!

I suggest there is a higher prize worthy of your time and energy, and thats building a lifestyle that will be there when you most need heath, energy, clarity and stablity...

    Re: Lifestyle, Build it!

Great post.. and I agree with everything you say... I am one of the slow losers..didn't get that nice chunk off during induction.. But thats okay.. It took me YEARS to put all this weight on... I feel so much better... I feel like I could run a marathon.. (if my feet would let me...) My headaches have gotten a bit better.. I can go up a set of stairs without having a heart attack... My heart burn is better...not completely gone yet.. My new pants are loose These little things add up to big things.. If I am doing this in week 3 of eating this way.. I can't imagine how wonderful I will feel in 6 months

That gives me a lot to think about. I'm struggling very hard with an emotional issue right now and just like I've done my entire life, I want to run to food.

Thanks, Jess... your post may just help me after all.

Jess, I am the queen-mother of slow losers. Your post today is so wonderful and timely, and I truly thank you. I am plodding incredibly slowly toward the WEIGHT goal, and do get discouraged inside sometimes. But it is so critical to see and appreciate it when the other important goals are being met, like lost inches and better health and increased self-confidence and you are so right!!! We dwell on that scale number as if there's nothing else that matters, but EVERYTHING else matters just as much---or more!! I have saved this post in my file to read on those days when the evil scale tries to rule my world!! Thank you and have a fantastic day!

          Jess,

Thank you so much for that inspirational post. You are so right that we expect things to happen immediately. Funny enough, even if the scale isn't moving as much as we'd like, other things are happening. My heartburn is completely gone. I have more energy to play with my son and exercise. My mood swings are gone. And my clothes fit better. That's an awesome feat and I keep it close to my heart to help me remember that this IS exactly what I need to be doing. You've put that feeling into words and every one of us will benefit from it!

          THANKS!!!!

No kidding! If I'm feeling this much better after one month, I can hardly wait for the sixth month mark!

Yesterday, I read some old posts about fingernails getting healthier and stronger. It was cool because mine have been, too. So much so I've been knicking my hands with them. Another thread here is about some condition some women get (POCS?) that low-carbing helps relieve. Big things like averting diabetes to the small things like stronger nails, it makes you wonder why in the world so many "authorities" continue to blast Atkins. I'll tell you what, I won't give two hoots for their opinions any more. Eating foods the way God intended us to eat them has been better for me than any combination of chemicals some academic pinhead has dreamed up.

Jess batted this one right out of the ballpark. Great post!

              Re: Lifestyle, Build it!

I started sleeping GREAT this week. Normally not a good sleeper, toss turn wake up toss/ on and on get up tired in the morning and sore muscles from the nights work out. Last couple of days slept like a baby. still tired in the morning but expect that to end soon. just need to get up and going. What a wonderful thing it is....... lots to look forward to like the energy level has not quite kicked in yet but I know it will, good things are happening and going to happen. It all just takes a little time, turtles don't do anything quickly.

Jess I really needed this post today. Even though I have had GREAT results the last two weeks, I still look in the mirror and think, "why is my stomach/boobs/back" still SO big. I keep telling myself, it's only been TWO weeks. BE PATIENT. Think of all the crappy food you ate to do this to yourself, it won't come off overnight.

PATIENCE. It is a virtue. And one I unfortunately lack but am working on getting more of that!
