I know that there is a Thyroid forum..I also posted there, but it seems kind of slow..thought I would check here as well..

Last summer my dr found a 3.9CM cold-non functioning nodule on the right lobe of my thryoid. We did all the tests, including FNA biopsy, and ruled out cancer. I had all my levels checked, and everything was great. It is not producing, or absorbing anything. So now I am in a wait and see approach..simply because of the size, dr wasnts to remove it if it gets any bigger.

My question is, I don't really comprehend what the relationship between thryoid problems, and Atkins is..can it cause harm? Since I've never been on any medication for Thryoid..I don't understand. Just something that has been in the back of my mind lately.

    Re: Thyroid

So long as your levels are good you most likely have no need to worrie. As for myself I ahve low thyroid function and a cyst on my pituitary gland and it makes for some very slow weight loss. That's the assosiation. Sometimes people who are very slow losers won't know they have a thyroid problem till after they go a long bout with no weight loss. I am on meds and my loss is very slow but, I have still lost 122 pounds so even though someone who might have a normal functioning thyroid could have lost this much in half the time I ahve still lost it. Sometimes it is frusturating but, so was being fat so I will take me slow weight loss I guess LOL.

      Re: Thyroid

I guess my real worry was that I did Atkins about 3-4 yrs ago and lost 80lbs..and this nodule was never found. I started worrying that I developed it while doing atkins, stupid but crossed my mind. I also seem to be having no weight loss this time around, and Monday will mark the start of 4 weeks on strict induction. My measurements are the exact same as they were about 4 mos ago, so I don't think I've lost anything at this point, so I wondered if the nodule could be behind that.
