    Help kicking the caffeine habit!

I am committed to this "second" time around... unfortunately, more like third, maybe fourth....

Anyway, I am trying to cut caffeine gradually as I can't deal with a 4 day migraine-like headache.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am trying half-caffeine coffee now and tea, but would rather just stop.... I bought some Excedrin for an emergency headache, but am nursing so I cannot take acetomenophin....

You might want to look at the ingrediants of excedrin. I dont have any with me but im pretty sure it is asperin, acetominophen, and caffeine.
I bit the bullet and went cold turkey with caffeine, and of course i got the inevetible migrane. weaning myself off things never works. didnt work with caffeine first time i tried, didn't work with smoking, or anything else i have ever tried. but that is MY personality. i looked at it as i would rather have a headache that will go away, naproxin (alleve) is wonderful, than to see my scale stall.

      Hi Rain,
If you cut out all caffeine and you were a heavy coffee/tea drinker you will have the headaches regardless of what you do. Yes, they will come. Sorry.

IMO, going with the 1/2 caffeine is better than continuing drinking the caffeinated. However I've been told even de-caffeinated has some caffeine.

I will have a cup or two of 1/2 caffeine in the morning. Although sometimes I don't even drink a full cup. Dr. Atkins advised against it's use because it may cause unstable blood sugar. I don't know if my blood sugar is unstable or not, I would probably have cravings if so.

Excedrin has caffeine in it, and everyone advises not to use that brand. Not sure if Tylenol is caffeine free. I used Advil.

I am a coffee junky too. Its a siren song that pulls me in and I try and try, but it gets me sooner or later. If I were you I would just add decaf to the mix and gradually phase out the caffinated stuff. Excederin has caffiene...lots. Thats why it works great when you have a caffiene withdrawl headache! Stick to ibuprofin. I usually take 800mg which is 4 pills of over the counter stuff.

I first did this diet in March 2004. I went all decaf and it gave me huge headaches for the first week or so. I was OK after a while though. Even though I went back to regular eating later on in 2004 and tried Atkins again earlier this year, I have NEVER gone back to regular Tea & Coffee. I have got used to decaf now and won't go back. 3 years and counting!!

Just bought some decaf diet coke for the weekend as it's going to be hot here!

i have to say, i just can't do without caffeine. I'm hoping that cutting out carbs is enough on its own.
