For about a month or so I have been getting light headed whenever I stand up. This is something that happened to me last time i was on atkins but never any other time and i was wondering if it could be diet related. anyone know?

Re: getting light headed
Are you eating ENOUGH carbs and are you spreading them out over the entire day? You could be experiencing low blood sugar.
Are you still in induction? If so, I would suggest you start up the rungs and add more veggies to your diet. Hope this helps!Bren

Re: getting light headed
I had been getting 30 carbs/day give or take one or two that i have indeed been spreading out through the day. I cheated the yesterday and have moved back to induction. im not sure what to do, about it though because my body has already switched back into ketosis, at least the strips say so as well as the taste in my mouth.

Re: getting light headed
Arkie,
Not to say cheating is good (insert wink here......lol lol) but did you notice you were still having the dizzy spells after?
It just sounds like low blood sugar to me. I could be wrong and if it persists PLEASE see your doctor.
ok, so you are back in ketosis. Now, the best thing to do is to go back to the rung you were on prior to the cheat.Bren

Re: getting light headed
IF you have already done a clean induction then the only time you should go back to induction is if you have cheated and knocked yourself out of ketosis. You should go back to induction until you are back in ketosis, then return to where you were. As per Dr. Atkins.
Yes, check your blood sugar when you have that feeling again. Sorry, was not aware you were a diabetic.Bren

Re: getting light headed
im not diabetic. it does run in my family and one of my major motivations for atkins is diabetes. i work at a hospital lab on top of my other job where it is very easy to check my blood levels for everything. I ate more veggies than normal today and eneded up with 40g carbs by the end of the night. i havent felt light headed. i think it may be low blood sugar and i need to be on higher carbs than i have been eating. ill keep track of what i eat and if i feel light headed. thank you so much for the info

Re: getting light headed
Arkie,
I had the same problem at the beginning of my second week of induction. It was definitely my blood sugar dropping. (I have PCOS and suffer from hypoglycemia.) I simply started OWL a little early. Adding in the extra veggies definitely helped. Sounds like adding in extra helped you, too. I would talk to a doctor soon if it keeps happening.cheri

Re: getting light headed
Also - are you taking any medications? As you lose weight, you'll need to work with your doctor to possibly decrease doses...
