  • Half-hearted attempt -- again

    Hello, strangers!

I started here 4 years ago this week and now I'm halfway to gaining it all back. What with hormonal changes, epinephrine sabotaging my ketosis, and a few holiday cheats, I'm now immune to the low-carb WOE. What are my options? Gain the other 25 lbs, and then some more? Deprive myself for four more years of the poison that I love, just to maintain?

Coming back here, I don't see any familiar names. (Except Elizellen, thanks for the PM!) Are they all wallowing in self-pitying blubber too? Is this board too big now to have some personal friends to help me do it all again and feel good about my body and my health? (Or would that take another 40 years at the rate I now lose). Is there any help for long term stallers? Okay, maybe I do cheat every 6 months for a couple weeks, but STILL it's not fair to be GAINING.

Does fairness even have anything to DO with the decision I have to make? I did get back on the wagon today, and now I feel a little crummy and down. Maybe Weight Watchers would be a good idea to try, I dunno. Low fat never worked before. Boy, I'm rambling! Must be brain dead from that chocolate cake this week......

Thank you, O Faceless Void of Cyberspace, for listening to my mindless rant. And anyone else who was unfortunate to be subjected to this, my humble apologies.

Welcome, back! It sounds like you are really struggling. Well, there must have been something that worked for you here, or, you would not be here again. Just think how lucky you are to be back and now you have an opening to make new friends and find new support avenues.

I know that for me, things always seem to go smoother when I'm in ketosis. I just feel better and I also feel more in control.

I'm excited that you have chosen this WOE. Best of luck! I'm sure we will be seeing you on the boards.

I'm relatively new here, so I don't know if the board is bigger or not, but we're not faceless strangers in cyberspace. We're real people struggling to lose weight, just like you! There are a bunch of us who are fairly new and you'll fit right in. We definitely have a community here and you're welcome. Fairness? In my experience, Life and Fairness are usually mutually exclusive, but that's no reason to give up living. Commit to this woe, get into ketosis and we'll help you though the rough spots.

            Welcome back!
It's easy to get down when you don't lose as fast as you want to. Just stick with it, though, and it will happen. Sometimes I think your body tests you just to see if you're serious and are going to keep eating this way. When it decides it is, sometimes you can see a big whoosh. Be sure to measure, to watch the inches disappear is extremely satisfying.
Getting off the sugar can leave you down, too, so stick with it a few days and see how much more energetic you feel.
            Good luck, and keep posting!

I think I remember you, although I was just a rookie at the time. Gaining half back, while not good, is still way better than all of it and then some. Many of the faces on this board have changed, but the board is still very much the same as it ever was. The forums which get the most traffic are different than back then as well. Some forums just are not what they used to be, the families within them have moved on. But the board family is still here and going strong, and the support is as good as it ever was.

                Re: Half-hearted attempt -- again

Hi Christine There are still quite a few old faces around, so take a seat on the wagon again with us.
I dont know who is in charge of the butt-glue at present, but hang on tight and sit in the middle of a row and hopefully you wont fall off again!!

Remember how 'induction flu' can make us feel crummy at the start of detoxing from chocolate cake? Maybe you are feeling that already as well as the slight feeling of deprivation knowing you are giving up on some old 'friends'. But there are plenty of new friends to keep you full and happy in your eating - cream cheesestuffed red peppers, baconwrapped sausages, eggs and bacon, brocolli in cheese sauce to name a few of my favourites.

So plan your legal meals and snacks, grab your water and read through the forums for inspiration and encouragement.

                You can do it
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                  Re: Half-hearted attempt -- again

Thanks, guys! Oh, Yeah, Ellizellen -- I just remembered how many good recipes and ideas YOU contributed.....mmmmm.....sausages.....

I hope the reference to butt glue does NOT mean I can't find my old friend and mentor, 2big4mysize? Butt glue just won't work the same, will it? BUTT.... I'm willing to give it a try. Yeah, I know it's a downer going thru carb withdrawal, but I'm also depressed at how hard it has been while I'm in ketosis to NOT see the scale move for MONTHS at a time. I'm thinking of maybe low-carb low-fat combination, or Stillman's (I just found that idea by googling last night).

You're right, Buffy, it worked before even though it hasn't lately, and I feel so much better, my cholesterol goes down, my mind is sharper, hot flashes less, etc, etc... I know I'm better off even NOT losing weight just staying in ketosis.

Bren, it's good to "see" you! (and I do remember Jim vaguely, too) My water intake is great, never let that go even when I'm off plan. Excercise -- not so good. I've been having trouble with the knee again now that I'm a fatty. I did buy a Gazelle a year ago, which doesn't hurt if I don't overdo it. And now that you mentioned it, today will be a good day to re -start a daily program. I quit about 2 weeks ago when work was hectic. I will do 15 minutes on it if the knee allows it.

Thanks for all the support. I'll try to check in once a day for a week and see how things go. Maybe someone smarter than me has an idea of how to get weight loss jump started again. I have developed quite a gut after Christmas by using epinephrine for asthma. My doc told me later that it causes an insulin spike!!! I was consuming 20 grams of carbs per day or less, and the ketostix were neutral. She said that it will make my body manufacture cortisol, which makes it deposit fat on my belly. Someone actually asked me lately when I'm "due". ;( I hate my body and my health issues but I know I'm really very blessed. Thanks for all your offers of help - I think I'll take you up on it! I'll do this until I can make a more informed and intelligent decision on what weight loss plan to follow, but I'm so used to this WOE it won't take much energy to at least maintain.

Hi Christine, welcome back. Best wishes for whatever you decide to do. I know I feel much better when I eat this way, and my BP has gone way down, so that's a plus. Starting it though, as you know, makes you feel terrible while your body detoxes. Let us know how you're doing.

                        Re: Half-hearted attempt -- again

I understand how hard it is when a good amount of the weight is in your stomach. I do not have any meds to blame mine on, just genetics and bad eating. I have a lot of belly fat and it has been very hard dealing with it. Clothes are impossible to find that fit well. It is very hard.
I am determined to see this through and I am not losing very fast but I know after being on and off low carb many many times since 2002 my body is just waiting for me to make up my mind. Once it is sure I am staying on this plan, I will probably see the weight come off faster. My hubby is going through it too. We are both determined to do this and see it through to goal and then maint.
You can do it. You already said you feel better on low carb regardless, so that is important too.
I was away for a while but I am back now and am just taking it one single day at a time, that is all I can handle, just today. Tomorrow I will take care of tomorrow. I will not allow myself to get overwelmed by looking ahead .

                          Re: Half-hearted attempt -- again

I forgot how bad the first few days are. I'm purposely NOT doing induction because I know it usually causes migraine from ground zero - I have to ease INTO induction. No ketosis this morning, but I figure I should be burning fat by tomorrow. Unfortunately, it will be food fat, not the glob on my tummy. Or thighs. Or butt. I almost bought Relacor today at Costco, does anyone know if this works? I don't see how it would do anything about fat ALREADY deposited but maybe it's a good preventive for stressful days.
