  • This time I'm a veggie

    Hi All Fellow second-timers,

I did great on Atkins a few years ago - lost about 35-40 lbs. Then I met a man with a sweet tooth....you can guess the rest. I never totally abandoned the low-carb thing so I luckily only gained about half of it back. However my closet is still full of clothes I cannot get on and I refuse to buy new ones (which is crappy cuz I'm going clothes shopping with my mom this weekend...ok maybe one new piece!)
The seond time around is proving to be much more difficult. Two things are wreaking havoc. One is I'm living with my wonderful sweet-tooth man, second is I am now a pseudo vegetarian (I eat eggs, fish and dairy).
I've now noticed that all the soy products I've been eating have carbs in them. And almost every morning I have TSP (textured soy protein) with ground flax. My question is, does anyone know if I can do induction using these products and counting them as part of 20g of carbs? As well, does anyone know anything about using Greens Plus? I have been trying to follow Induction properly as of Monday but I just want to make sure I am not sabotaging myself.
Whew, that sure was a mouthful. Thank you for all your help.

Well I have no idea what TSP is, but you ARE allowed to eat tofu! It's considered a soy "cheese" and therefore legal on induction. Just make sure you count the carbs in your daily totals.

Hi dntogirl! I can't answer your soy question, but maybe a search of the board will help you.
As for the things that you say are causing havoc...you can live without sweets, it is possible, but only if the Atkins way of eating matters enough to you. You have to want this enough to leave your old ways behind. I too have a husband who is a sweets-freak, but I watch him eating that stuff non-stop and now I just feel sorry for him! I don't want that stuff in my body. I think once it's out of your system, and if you can stave off the occasional hormanal craving, you're good to go.
And as for being a veggie, I would think as long as you're getting your protein and fat intakes you should be fine.
Hope this works out for you, and welcome to the board!

Some TSP's have corn starch (a no-no as you know) in them, so you might want to ask for the label if you get it out of the bin, or read the package close and count the carbs for those that don't have additives. Soy is allowed, but like everything else, make sure you watch your carb count. I don't know about Green Plus, but I'm thinking I've seen in used in a few dishes on one of the food networks for vegans. I'm not vegan, I just like watching the shows for ideas of adding meat (lol...sorry to giggle..I like my meat), so I'm not to handy on that last one.

        Wish you great success!

I just want to add that the ONLY soy product allowed on induction is tofu. Other soy products (such as flour, milk, beans, etc.) are not legal until OWL Rung 6, Legumes.

Thanks everybody for all the great advice.

It sounds like I may have to do induction (Yikes!!) for another week due to the soy products . I'll just have to keep coming back to the board for constant inspiration. And to MorningGlory...I love that you feel bad for your sweet-tooth guy. Mine looks at me that way. As of now.....the tables are turned!!!!

            Thanks again
