  • Pituitary Tumors

    Hi Everybody,

This second time around is not going well at all!! I have barely lost more than a couple of pounds and even that fluctuates. I have a pituitary tumor that I just started taking medication for again about 3 weeks ago. It is just now, very slowly, starting to affect the tumor. I was wondering if anyone knows if weight loss is hampered by this type of tumor?

Thanks for all the constant inspiration!

Hi Dntogrl. Sorry to hear about yoru pituitary tumor. I don't know much about meds or the effect of a pituitary tumor on weight loss. Have you asked your healthcare professional? Sorry I'm not being much help.

      Hi Floydgirl,

Thanks for the commiseration. I haven't asked yet as I'm just trying to figure out why I'm not losing. I knew it would be slower this time as I'm now a veggie and eating soy products (not really allowed in induction) but slow and nothing at all are different things. I'm hoping this is the reason otherwise......???

      Thanks

I know there are a lot of meds that can cause you to stall, or worse yet, gain weight.

I'd definitely put a call into the Doc to see what they say.

Unfortunately, I have extremely limited knowledge concerning pituitary tumors.

Are you on induction? Or are you moving up the rungs?

          Re: Pituitary Tumors

I'm still doing pseudo induction (because of soy products). Although every so often I do sneak the tiniest amount of All Bran (i need the crunch!!) Induction didn't give me the power start because I never really went back to eating bad carbs so I didn't have any water weight to lose (all fat!!). I'm hoping that the meds will help lose weight as it shrinks the tumor. In the meantime....the fight continues. Talking to people on this board really helps getting through these tough times.

Induction really helps with detoxing your body and getting a handle on your cravings.

As you know, you do get to add foods back as you venture up the rungs. Are you a vegetarian?

I know what you mean about the peeps on the board -- they are the best!

Yeah, I'm a vegetarian now. It does make it a bit tougher. Although, the only thing I really miss more than anything is the fruit (and beer). Especially now in the summer. I'm up in Toronto and when the summer hits there is nothing better than sitting on a patio and having a beer....sigh.....

In a short amount of time you will be able to add fruit back. I love the fruit rung!

                  Re: Pituitary Tumors

i know nothing about the meds but am familiar enough with a friends condition to know that meds can stall and meds can make you gain tremendous amounts of weight. as suggested by fg, this is something thar your healthcare provider should be able to tell you very easily. imho, that would be the best course of action concerning that as we aren't healthcare professional. there might be a couple on the board, but trust me, fg and myself are not it! unless she got her degree in the past couple of hours since i chatted with her last.

as for the lack of loss:
i can only offer this. by your own admission, you are not doing atkins induction. your plan and losses are going to vary from say, someone who is strictly by the book. that's more what we can base a loss or lack thereof, on.
