  • So...he said you're grumpy..have a donut!

....and the sad part is....I did. We were out of town and I was badly prepared and apparently grumpy (in hindsight I think it may have been my fiance singing to his Tom Petty and Queen CD's for three hours that was making me grumpy)...so then the debacle ensued. Sometimes I just DO NOT understand myself...I was on day 6 and was doing SO well!
Well here I am four days later and still laying in the dirt UNDER the wagon. But I'm getting back on and this time...NO harrassment from the fiance is going to get in my way!! I'm going back to the gym..that way I don't have any excuses.

Dust yourself off, pick yourself up and learn from this.

And the next time he tries to play and sing along to music you can't stand, pop in the most annoying CD you can think of. I suggest almost anything by Britney Spears. j/k

lol...you know, life happens...all we can do is learn from our actions and get to know ourselves better...that's what it's all about...playing in the dirt is fun, laying in the dirt is sometimes needed, but living in the dirt is not for us! get up, dust your self off, get back to this woe, and move forward...you are worth it. don't let one little bump derail all your progress...no excuses is right!! good for you for getting back to the gym...

Just jump back on the wagon. I cheated on Monday due to some bad news and I had legal food in the fridge, I just felt that need to eat what was there and hot and afterward I felt even worse. I wish I hadn't eaten it. I just got right back on plan and now I have a fresh reminder that you don't feel all happy about the food afterward.

Also, what if you asked him to support you? Telling you to have a donut?! That would have gotten my hubby a busted lip.

Get back on, sit right here next to me...I've soaked the bench with elmers!

            Re: So...he said you're grumpy..have a donut!

Awww. I feel for you. There is nothing worse than not being prepared when in an emergency situation like that. Then to make matters worse, you get offered something oh sooooo tempting. If I were you, I'd sit down the love of my life and explain that offering you that stuff when you are in a bad mood is like offering a recovering alcoholic a drink when they are having a rough day.

I often find that non food addicts can't really understand what the big deal is when it comes to things like this. My own husband rolls his eyes when I tell him I need Splenda from the market and I can't use sugar. He's starting to come around though because we are seeing similar patterns to my sugar intolerance in our daughter. (She's almost 4 and now weighs 62 pounds. We put her on a no sugar diet and have seen her weight drop from 65 to 62 in the matter of 2 weeks. We've also seen a DRAMATIC change in her attitude toward food and sweets. We used to take her to the market and she'd scream for the chocolate and chips, etc. Now she just walks right by and doesn't even ask for/look at the stuff.) But before, because he has no food issues, he thought I was just crazy and my weight issues were all in my head--not due to a sensitivity to sugar and white flour.

It's very important to your recovery to make sure your fiance knows that sort of thing won't fly with you and a doughnut to fix your grumpiness isn't what you need. YOU NEED SOME BETTER MUSIC!! lol j/k

              Re: So...he said you're grumpy..have a donut!

Thanks guys...I really appreciate all the support...and offer of a glue bench! I think I'm going to need it!

I think the toughest part is that my fiance is a major junkfood junkie like me and has a weight problem too. He keeps telling me "oh ya, we'll diet tomorrow..because today we have (enter big family foodfest here)". He also wants to go to the gym together. But, I am really shy about working out in front of men (his gym is co-ed). I also can't easily get there on my own because it's way out of the way. I LOVE the all ladies gym that I go to. Sort of a difficult thing because we all know that between gym, work, family and a social life, there isn't much time for together time. I'm trying to be supportive of his goal, but it's hard to support something that never happens and it derails me too. One time, we started Atkin's together and he whined ALL day long saying "can i have cupcakes on this WOE? How about a slurpee? Until finally I just said fine...go hard.

So, I'm striking out on my own again I guess. *SIGH* this was so much easier when I was single!! LOL....don't get me wrong...I love him to pieces! Just not so much when he's tempting me to fall off the wagon.

                Re: So...he said you're grumpy..have a donut!

                Hi Pink Lady,

this made me laugh because my BF is singing to Queen right now! But he is washing up so I'll forgive him

Seriously though, it can be a real pain to get sidetracked like that. I cheated SO many times I lost count but in the end I built up a routine of taking snacks, being determined and making promises on this board (see signature) which mean I've eventually began to cope with such situations.

I found this worked for me because I did it on my own - my partner is supportive but we (on other diets) would legitimise each other's cheats. So it could be for the best. Perhaps you could compromise - you'll go his gym occasionally if he promises not to tempt you with any forbidden foods?

Well done on getting straight back to the gym by the way

PinkLady, LOL about the song! ""Freebird" did that to me on a trip in the car one time, and caused an argument. Now it's a joke between us, and I like the song now. LOL

Good thing you realized and caught yourself soon. If it happens again, and you go as far to buy the bad food, just remember to throw it away in the store trash can on the way out. Or drop it on the ground so you can't eat it. Don't eat it. I've done this with cookies and candy bars before...it feels fantastic to waste food like this, and not "waist" it on me.

                    partytrouble...how funny!

Baarb - That is SO weird! I totally thought my boy was the only one in the free world who would be caught dead screeching to "fat bottomed girls" in public LOL (honestly that's kinda why I like him...not shy at all!). But it's nice that yours does the washing up!! I think you're totally right about the legitimizing eachothers cheats thing. It's weird. We sometimes put such value on "being supportive" in relationships, that we support ourselves right into something negative!! I really admire your committment, good job!!

partytrouble - OMG!! That is absolutely hilarious. Not only do you have robbers, but they need to provide snobby commentary on music too (don't tell anyone but I love the song TOXIC too for some odd reason). Hey! Maybe next time we're on a road trip I'll bring that one!!

Barbie - That is a really great plan. I like it!!

Have a groovy day!! Luv you guys!!
