  • second time...twentyth??sad and confused

I am Soo frusterated I did atkins last year and went from 250 to 170 then I took a break to go to a buffet party and had alot of food more than needed and I just stayed off the diet untill I reached 197 then I went off and on every 10 pounds to keep in my 80's I can't even count the times well this year after christmas I gained to 214 and have tryed to get on and stay on but I have visions of subway and other treats and gain it all back but at this point I feel I must stay on beacause I have lost 6 months in the body that none of my clothes fit all I can wear are sweats and I am ashamed I am worried beacause this forum says second time around and I am wondering if there is a way after all the times I have gone on and off that I might have ruined my chances at loosing a good amount again???well I started back on for this time hopefully the golden time I will stick to 6/12/2007 and I have only lost 2 pounds and usually my first 3 days I will loose up to 4 pounds on one then 2 then 1 give or take one pound so I am afraid

Don't be afraid. No two ways are ever going to be the same. You could be holding water because stress, because of the weather, etc. There are too many variables that make each time different. Personally, I don't believe that "golden shot" rule. Plenty of others will agree with me, because they've lost again, sometimes even more the second time around. Maybe the weight lose has been slower for some the second time, but it's happened.

You haven't lost your chances at losing again, thats only your doubts talking. You can do this. If anyone knows that YOU do. I have complete confidence in you, seeing how you lost 80 pounds on Atkins before. That just blows me away. You should be telling US how to do this!

Remember how good you feel when you are eating this wonderfully rich healthy way. Forget worrying about how long it will take to loose the weight. Know (from your wonderful first experience) that you WILL loose...maybe not as fast, but most of us second time arounders seem to learn more about ourselves and life and eating than we ever did the first time.

And, even if it does take longer, you will have the support of some of the most wonderful people here with the STAC members. It will be FUN and you will NOT be alone. We are all in this together and we understand.

          Hi Gina and welcome back!

The others are right, don't let the fear keep you from trying. Throw yourself mind, body and soul into Atkins and revel in the food choices it gives you, instead of mourning what it doesn't. Find an exercise you love. Drink your water and remind yourself daily that it truly is one of the best things you can do for you body.

So many of us, myself included, have doing Atkins for the umpteenth time. We just have to make this time stick. Keep coming to ADBB for support. Reaching out can mean all the difference between a close call and a hard fall.

I wish you the best of luck and success!

            Re: second time...twentyth??sad and confused

            Hi there,

these guys are definately right, do not let worry stop you from trying. Keep at it whatever. If you think about it, you will probably gain weight by eating 'normally' whereas if you stick to this WOL you are pretty much guaranteed to lose weight. You have done it before, you can do it again.

There may a load of reasons why you haven't lost so fast, it could be that your body has built up a resistance, but that doesn't mean it is not going to work long term - if you stick at it, and don't fall back into old habits it will work eventually.

Also, I would say you need to think about how to stay on WOE long term to get to goal and stay there. Consider joining the cheat free thread, it would be great to have another member there. Get involved in a range of challenges, exercise and other kinds to make sure that you are kept going by your pledges on the board - that way it becomes less about gritting your teeth until goal, and more about incremental goals and targets in food, exercise, everything. Your mini-goals in your signature are a great place to start

Also if you did Atkins a while back it is worth re-reading DANDR and the stickies to refresh your memory on how to have a totally clean induction.

Also, something you said struck a chord - that hopefully this is the time it sticks. I think you should decide this is the time it's going to stick and do everything to make it happen. There has been some great stuff about planning in the 'I am worth it' challenge this week, worth a look.

Really good luck with this and let us know how it goes
