  • I don't think it's working......

Okay kids..... I've been on this WOE for over 30 days. The scale has moved only to tease me. Clothes are NOT fitting differently. My stupid sticks claim that I'm in ketosis and haven't moved out at all..... What's the DEAL?? I haven't knowingly cheated..... haven't really been tempted. I've gone over 20 carbs accidentally with vegetables once or twice (but still not out of ketosis). If you've seen any of my other threads---I did get caught up in some salted peanuts---hoped I had water retention--that hasn't come off yet. The ONLY thing I can say is that I didn't take "before" measurments and still haven't measured. Surely there should still be some weight loss by NOW??? Anyone care to guess what's up? The first couple of weeks, I did use Crystal Light and diet soda. I read about some people stalling with that stuff so I cut that out..... I drink more than 64 oz. of water daily. What the HECK can it be? I'm frustrated......not enough to pig out, but enough to say maybe this doesn't work for me anymore???? I hate the slimfast, hungry diets! I have a smaller appetite with this and no desire to cheat.....My only meds are wellbutrin, insulin and ziac (bp). Even with less than 20 carbs I haven't been able to decrease my insulin..... Sugars still stay over 125 and can get into the 200's when I try to decrease it. I was a naughty diabetic prior and ate whatever I wanted. Sweets, carbs and all. The SAME dosage for that stuff is needed now with NO sugar. CRAZY!! Any expert gurus out there willing to brainstorm???

    Hi Linda,

I wouldn't call myself an expert guru but I just wanted to say a few things. Firstly, I understand your frustration - but please don't let it be a reason to quit - there must be something causing the problem, and this diet is very likely to work.

Firstly - take measurements asap so you can look at them in a month's time to see if there is a difference that the scale isn't showing.

Also, 5lbs is not huge for 30 days, but it is still a loss. It would really suck if you were to lose that slowly the whole time, but you would get to goal eventually, whereas if you quite, you probably won't and could gain.

I don't know much about medications - hopefully someone else will have a bit more experience.

Perhaps closely examine your food and exercise again. Check ALL labels (as Joy has been saying lately) and leave nothing to chance. Perhaps post a sample menu or two? I think you may have already done this, but a repeat may help.

Finally, how do you feel? Besides weight loss do you feel more energetic, alert? If the stix show you are in ketosis it might jsut be a matter of waiting for the scale to catch up.

    Best of luck

      Re: I don't think it's working......

Thanks Baarb. I know you've seen a couple of my threads. It worked SO WELL for me the first time around!! That's what is so frustrating. Of course, I have a lot more to lose this time around. I'm using Fitday and checking every label. And, that's what's been frustrating about the ketosis. Surely, I would be out of ketosis if I were doing something wrong??? YES... I need to get a measuring tape. I forget every time I'm in the store!

I FEEL great. And, you all might know what I mean--I FEEL a teeny smaller. Just glances in certain positions I'm sitting in, or how I feel in a chair, etc. Certainly the mirror is not so generous, but my eyes think so every once in awhile. The sugar/insulin thing is bizarre to me also! When I post a menu--do I just type it up as in a message? Or is there a special place to post menus?

ETA: And that dang 5lbs. isn't concrete. I fluctuate between those 5 all the time. And lots of times, still shows ZERO lost. I just can't bring myself to change the ticker!!

I hear you on not changing the ticker! I do that Is good to look at the overall trend.

Post a menu or two here:

Hey discolemonade! YOU look great! THANK you for the link. It's worth a try---I eat a TON of cheese..... I'm thinking, thinking, thinking and I THINK that's the only dairy I get...... But it's a staple for me. I'll read that thread through and try some suggestions AND reread my Atkins on yeast. Thanks!

I don't have any advice to offer, just a sympathetic ear and my sincere wish that you find an answer to your problem. There's nothing more frustrating that having no results for all your hard work, is there?

I hope things work out for you soon!

OMG. I'm reading all of the symptoms for candida--Atkins really wasn't very thorough on this one--and I think we may have the answer, kids! Woo Hoo!! Okay, I thought a white coating on the tongue was normal. I've ALWAYS had one...... I'm newly diabetic (I wasn't the last time around on Atkins). That plays into the yeast..... My joint pains are horrible and I've atrributed them to weight--but they have also increased with this second time around just as I have increased bacon, cheese and all the other low carb delights. And they are my FAVORITES!! That's why this WOE is so easy for me. Ugh! I'm going to work on the cleansing and removing all offending foods. Now I'm off to check my kids' tongues! LOL.....

                        Re: I don't think it's working......

Hi Pretty! I was reading about your difficulties and wanted to offer help and a suggestion. You see, I too am a Type-2 diebetic. After starting this woe my diabetes went away after 48 days. Not saying that yours will, but may be easier controlled by using the glycemic index that Dr. Atkins mentions in his book on pages 78-81. Also there is a On-Line site you can go to at www.glycemicindex.com that explains the GI more in depth and will help you choose foods lower on the GI. My diabetes remains to stay in check because of this woe and the GI. Maybe it will help bring your numbers down from the 200s. Hope this helps you and great insight on finding out about the candida- yeast problem. Here's to better health, Sherri

I'm so glad that you reminded me discolemonade! And that I hopped on here first thing this morning. Okay--stupid question. Is it just supposed to be excess saliva you spit or are you to try and get "phlegmmy" stuff too? LOL...sorry! But, saliva just floats healthily on top!!! NOW what???

Sherri~ thanks! I'll have to look into that. It's just bizarre to me that sugars can act like that when I'm being GOOD!!!

Julie~ thank you--I hadn't noticed that there was a while forum devoted to this. You look marvelous!!

Okay....I'm checking my kids' spit now. My rail thin daughter with no symptoms had candida spit. My normal sized daughter with lots of IBS symptoms (and we've been going to doctors for 5 years) has candida spit. And mine was NOT??? AI yi yi yi yi..... Waiting for teenage boys to wake up. Shouldn't be hard to get them to spit! LOL....
