  • Started Atkins for the Second time??

Hello, I'm new to the site, My name is Michelle.

I re-started Atkins after a 3 yr 9 mo break. I went off Atkins when I got pregnant. I was on it for 3 yrs in maintenance. I started at 178 and ended at 140. I maintained 140-145 until I got pregnant.

When I re-strated May 28, 2007 I was 172. 3 weeks later i'm 162. I'm stuck right now, but I know that's normal, at least I'm not gaining. I'm doing all the right stuff, no fake sweetners, no alcohol, not too much cheese, or to high of fats. I just can't give up the morning cup of coffee yet...since I had to give up the diet coke and alcohol....hee hee.....

I have been stuck at 162 since the 11th of June, so I was just wondering how long the stall takes? Should I hang in there?

Oh yah, and I'm also exercizing 4 x a week for about 30-45 minutes, would do longer, but i'm a mom of 5 and work full time, so what I do now is hard to squeeze in.

Just glad there is a support group, cuz i'm doing this alone, and everyone around me thinks i'm crazy and keeps asking me "can you eat this"??? after explaining to them a MILLION times what I can and can not eat AAARRGGGHH

    A bit frustrated.......Michelle

Are you drinking enough water and eating enough veggies? Are you getting enough calories? Do you track in fitday?

I too am glad this board is here, no matter how much I explain the WOE to people around me they don't get it. My husband is starting to figure it out, he still asks if I can eat potatoes though lol.

I eat avocado, artichoke, asparagus and a little broccoli. All I drink is water, but not too much. What is fitday? I'm new so not too sure about how to add all the neat things you have at the bottom of your page.

Re: Started Atkins for the Second time??

www.fitday.com - it is a great tool! You enter in all of your food/drink for the day and it calculates the calories, carbs, fat and protein for you Great way to keep track of things and make sure that you are getting enough of everything.

To add a signature - go into User CP at the top of the page, then on the left side Edit Signature

On the water - you need to have a minimum of eight 8oz glasses of water along with 8oz for every 25lbs you have to lose. For me that is a minimum of 80oz a day, I take between 80 and just over 100 a day.

On the veggies - you need to make sure you have 3 cups of veggies a day - at least 2 cups of salad veggies and if the salad veggies are at 2 cups you can have 1 cup of other veggies. Avocado is actually not on the approved veggies list for the start of Atkins. Artichoke, Asparagus, Brocolli are all in the other vegetables category - so only 1 cup allowed for the day.

Do you have the book? I find its a great reference, I keep it with me all the time.

Re: Started Atkins for the Second time??

Welcome Michelle. Come back often and post. I think you'll like it here. You've done wonderfully well so far with losing 10 pounds. I've been told it's not considered a stall until you haven't lost any pounds or inches in 4 weeks time. Have you taken your measurements? If not, it's a good idea to take them down so you can compare later. You may be surprised at how many inches you've lost. It's also normal to slow down losing after induction. Don't give up just yet, it'll come off, your body is adjusting to the changes you're making.

Thank you for the welcome, I'm glad to have lost 10 pounds so far. I'm still stalled at 162, but I have hope. What about getting the Ketosis sticks? Has anyone tried those. I'm just curious to see if I am in the fat burning stage??? I just want to get out of these size 14 pants and burn them.....or rip them up for dust cloths....more enviornmentally savvy.......

Re: Started Atkins for the Second time??

Michelle, some people use the sticks and some never use them. However, everyone seems to be in agreement that it doesn't matter what color they register, a tiny color change is all that's needed. Its been compared to being pg, either you are or you're not. As you know very well you can't be just a little bit pregnant.

Here is the site where you can get a ticker that charts your weight loss like you're seeing on the bottom of everyone's pages. Just follow the directions and don't worry if you don't get it right the first time. It took me a few trys.

scratch that... I see you got one already!!!

It really sounds like you need the book, Michelle. I think you're making it harder than it really is--when you ask about how much fat, protein and calories you're supposed to have in a day! To my understanding NONE of those matter (much). You should not be trying to do lower fat when doing Atkins. All you need to do is drink water and limit your legal carbs and carefully travel the rungs of OWL. Great job so far! Please remember--Atkins is not always about the scale. You can watch it for a couple of weeks and not have it budge--but all of a sudden--your pants are too big! Inches are more of the goal here. Plus, when you do lose--you're losing FAT and NOT muscle. You will most likely be a smaller size but at a "heavier" weight than when you used to be that size. For instance, when I weighed 213 lbs. 15 years ago....I was in a size 22. When I did Atkins, at 210 I was in a snug 14 and didn't have to visit Lane Bryant! Good luck!
                            Linda
