    Re: Lab Tests

Boy, I can understand why you're mad. I would be, too.

All those good numbers but the whole deciding one may be weight?? What kind of BS is that?! I dare say you have better numbers than people who are in a "healthy weight range"...

The games these insurance companies play to get our money and hang on to every cent of it with ridiculous rules irks the living he** out of me.

If nothing else, let's hope your husband's numbers wakes him up. Just what you need, stress worrying about his health...

And they tease you about "dieting"??!... Yeah, right. WHATEVER!

      Re: Lab Tests

Isn't that the truth. I think it shocks them to find somebody that is overweight with such good statistics. Weight oftentimes is an issue for a lot of people. I remember working out at the gym with a friend one time. He was a tri-athelete and very fit and was training for an upcoming event. I was overweight by quite a bit, and not nearly as svelte as he was, but we got in the pool to swim some laps together. He said he had to swim 1200 meters (48 laps) and I could just stop whenever I tired out and just wait for him on deck if I wanted. Well, that pi$$ed me off. I said, well when I finish my 48 laps I'll just wait for you!!! He just kind of snickered! What he didn't know was that I had been a competitive swimmer growing up and had built up some endurance swimming over time and even though I was overweight by quite a few pounds I knew I could probably still outswim him. So we took off and after the first few laps he was quite a ways ahead. However, by lap 20 we were back even, by 30 I had lapped him, by 40 I had lapped him again, and by 48 I had lapped him the third time. Boy was he ticked that I beat him that bad! Then I rubbed it in. Gee, whats the matter? If you can't keep up with this fat guy, how are you going to be with those tri-atheletes?

Same with doctors. They just assume you are going to have high numbers. I would always get them checking my blood pressure a second time.

Great story! You should have bet him on it, especially when he didn't realize he's dealing with a ringer. LOL!!

Wow Sandy, those really are some scary numbers your husband has! Hopefully, your wonderful numbers will inspire him to take better care of himself.

Was your husband fasting when they checked his blood levels? If he wasn't, that could explain why his cholesterol levels were elevated. Personally, I would want repeat fasting labs to confirm whether or not his blood lipids are really that elevated. If they are anywhere close to those numbers I would want him on a statin (Lipitor, Zocor, etc) right away. If you have reservations about using prescriptions, then you could at least start with getting him on an Omega-3 supplement right away. Any idea what your husband's blood pressure/heart rate were?

Congrats again on your great numbers! This insurance company should also know that overweight does not necessarily equal high blood pressure or heart rate.
No they didn't do a total fasting test.. So I told him it wouldn't be as bad...if he fasted.. They did his blood pressure and it was 144/90..

That is GREAT Sandy! Boo to them for coming back to check you again. Are you going to be able to get on his insurance?

And yes, please get dh retested. My brother who just turned 30 had the highest triglycerides his dr's office had seen ALL YEAR. They were really completely in shock over his poor numbers and he isn't overweight. He started eating better, quit smoking and had to go on medication and within 4 months his numbers all dropped to very healthy levels.

For the life of me, I don't understand why anyone would even bother to test someone without them fasting first... the results are skewed and don't present a clear picture.

Well, what the he**?? And they want to retest YOU and not HIM??? What kind of crap is that, accepting skewed and outrageous numbers from him, and making you retake the test?!

Boy, I hope you pound them into the ground over this! This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! What really pisses me off is that the government keeps flaunting their dumb@$$ Food Pyramid that is nothing but a trap for so many of us. Then we don't lose WEIGHT (big whoop when smaller people can have terrible test results) and the insurances uses that as the Almighty Standard!

Yes, and the reason I'm so pissed is because I have a dog in this race. I was denied health insurance because of my weight alone. So guess who is going to have to pay for the majority of two surgeries and hospital stays, as well as the ER visit. And I haven't had any income of any kind since last August... B@st@rds!

Okay here is the stupid thing.. I already have LIFE Insurance with them.. I was going to switch from a Universal plan to a 30 year term life..and I have to go through the ringer.. I am about ready to just tell them to leave me at what I already had..

With my husband I was doubling the amount we had on him..because he is the breadwinner and his is 1/2 of mine.. Now I don't kow if they are going to even let him switch
