Okay Okay........I was here last year........back in oh I don't know....I guess I started last April....April of 2006.......I was rolling right along up until November and then stopped because I got SO busy. I had decided to go to college back in October so I applied for a pell grant and got it and in order to be a full time student I had to pack on a heavy class load for the rest of the fall semester..............but I did. But anyway....I say but a lot dont i??? So I was taking care of my daughter (who is five now), working full time, doing atkins, going to the gym 5 days a week AND then I took 7 college classes in 5 months...uhh yeah....I gave up the atkins and the gym......good thing...I didnt gain ANYTHING back......April of 2006 I was at 260lbs. Today I am at 211lbs. Not THAT great but it's better than nothing and I've gone down about 4 to 5 pants sizes so go me!!
I also have a boyfriend now....yay me.....he lives with me and my daughter.......he is from Honduras so I've been cooking a lot of tortillas, rice, beans, etc. Not Atkins friendly AT all........but again...I havent gained anything back, I actually lost a few more pounds here and there. But I think I'm ready to get back on the Atkins train (before school starts again for me next month). I need to see if I can get it all down together (except the gym part). So here I am.....going to do it again and see if I can get my big butt UNDER 200......
I'll come back on tomorrow (providing the computer guys dont block this site again) and post my weight from tomorrow morning. And so tomorrow will be my day 1 for me........no wait...I wont be back tomorrow...tomorrow is Saturday...LOL. I'll be back Monday and post what my weight was Saturday.
Anyway.........hi to all you lovely Atkiners that I havent talked to in god knows how long......hope you all have been doing great!!

Hi Seshena. Welcome. 211 is a good number to start, better than 265. Trust me, I know, I was there. I hear you about the toritllas, rice and beans. We're latinos and would eat that all the time. Now on Atkins, I have learned to substitute those staple items in our daily menus. You'll do fine girl. Congratulations on taking the first step.

Thanks Elsy............yeah that whole latino thing is hard.........he'll eat some things low carb BUT....he's not American and he's not overweight....he's a construction worker with a dynamite body, killer abs and muscles and he's from Honduras...he likes his beans, rice and tortillas. But I think I can pretty much kick that back....I can still cook it for him and then I'll just eat the meat and whatever veggies I've fixed.
The cool thing is...is that with him I've discovered a grocery store in Dallas *and Houston which is the one we will be driving too - 3 hr drive one way*...it's called Fiesta...OMG the produce section there was ROCKING...so many tropical type veggies that I dont find here locally in Louisiana. When we went a few weeks ago to Dallas we stopped for some pre seasoned skirt steak to bring back with us and I went nuts in produce....Chayote, Jicama, Nopals, Green Bananas *i know i cant eat them anymore*, Banana Leaves for cooking with, Tamarind.....it was awesome!! So yeah, I think I can do the rice and tortillas for him and then just eat the meat and veggies myself *big grin*

          Re: Here I Am Again

How depressing..........I WANTED to start Saturday BUT....I didnt. I'm going to have to roll with this tomorrow. My weekend was so hectic and I just couldn't get with it.
We have been doing some landscape work (actually more like removing saplings, brush and a fence) from some properties for a little extra cash and I just didn't have it together enough to be able to eat correctly while we were out on the job site. And then too it rained off and on and we didnt know from one minute to the next if we were staying, going, going back or what....by the time dinner time rolled around I was STARVING and ate the bad stuff........I'm not sweating it though because I know what I have to do....but it seems my timing is off. I'm going to plan out my meals for the next few days while I'm here at work today and see if that helps get me going tomorrow. After all, I'm aware of what is currently in my fridge so maybe that wont be too hard.
Ughhhhhhhhh I hope I can get started again....seems to be more difficult to start it again a second time when you've been off for months at a time. *sigh* someone slap me into atkins mode.............

              Re: Here I Am Again

              Welcome back Sheshena,

Don't let anything be an excuse once you get started. My family loves their starches too, but they also realize that sometimes I come first. It takes alittle while but once they see the commitment you have made it gets easier when they realize they can still eat carbs. I cook their carbs but they never make it on MY plate. Remember to put yourself FIRST because your health is important (and so is your happiness).

It's funny. Sometimes when I am chugging along being true to Atkins I will find a box of eclairs or something in my kitchen. I seriously believe my husband gets nervous if I loose too much weight and it is his way of controling my weight loss (the boxes sit unopened for DAYS!!!!! UGH). I look at it as part of a game I intend to win. Sometimes, if I feel myself loosing the game I toss the pasty box in the trash....unopened.

Just remember....you are important enough to keep on this plan. It works if you work it!

              Good luck.

                Hi Folks,
I restarted induction on Wednesday and am now doing the Labor Day Challenge, which is so awesome-lots of great energy and support on the board!
My kids who are now 20 something adults used to be so excited when I was on Atkins a few years ago because there always lots of food being cooked and of course I would make the carbs for them too and not eat them. Theyd say-This is great-For every pound mom loses we're gonna gain 10!! Have a good day!

                  Re: Here I Am Again

Okay, here's what I got..........I mentally prepared myself to start today......and so far, I'm okay.

I've been drinking water today....only water....I've had 32ounces and its only 10am...so not bad. For breakfast I ate one ounce of sharp cheddar cheese and two oscar meyer big and juicy hot dogs. For lunch I have some seasoned skirt steak and probably a third of a cup of guacamole. For dinner, I'll probably be having burgers with sauteed onions and mushrooms and a cup of lettuce with dressing, cheese and a few black olive slices. I can do that....sounds good, doesnt sound unappetizing....yep...I can do this just like I did last time....I know it's in me to get back on this wagon and roll along until I'm happy with me and then move into maintaining...yep yep...GOOOOOOOOOOOO Meeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the words of encouragement. Like I said in the begining, even though I stopped back in November/December, I didn't gain anything back....lost a couple of more pounds on my own. Now I'm ready to finish what I started....I have GOT to get rid of this stomach and butt once and for all.....LOL (and yes I know...exercise exercise exercise)
